Yes, it is a "Off the wind" sail, meaning you can only sail about 180 degrees in the direction the wind is blowing. For anything else you need a much more complicated sail rig which includes a rudder, lee-boards, etc. The WindPaddle Sail helps kayaks and canoes sail well with the minimum of modifications to the boat and minimal equipment. I hope this helps. WindPaddle Sails
but what if you wanted to go the other direction wouldent the wind just push the sail back,Im not much of a sailer, could anyone explain to me how that would work before i go spending 200 dollars.
it looks cool, but its hard to trust from this video,The one i would need for my kayak would be the biggest one which is 220 dollars plus shipping. But Ive been trying to figure something out,on a windy day wouldent what ever direction the wind is blowing the current would be going the same direction so you wouldent need this.
To all serious kayakers who may read "strewter's" comments below, I recommend you click on "strewter's" link and have a look at the quality of person making the below comment. Apparently, he has a doctorate in marketing and only knows how to bash film clips and obviously, none are up to his standards. Also, have a look at the clips he puts a thumbs up to (Likes) "Falling Down-Faggot Shit"?...come on strewter..
Probably one of the worst advertising efforts I have sen in many a year, paddle with VERY LITTLE effort and you could go 3 tilmes the speed, they obviously are showing the best bits of film they got so you have to imagine that most of the time they can barely have been moving at all. And ''all his Family'' at the end cheering for it, cringe!!!!!
It's like Nike advertising it's new super running shoes by a Guy with a Limp out for a leisurely stroll.
@sprinter1053 - Thanks for your interest! The WindPaddle sails simply clips onto any deck attachment point, like a bungie cord, a perimeter deck line or a deck strap. The sails are "Off-the wind" sails and do not sail your kayak or canoe upwind (as these boats don't have keels and can't do that anyway). Buy them online from us or check out our "Retailers" page on the WindPaddle site. These sails are TONS of fun. Sailing is FUN!

@sprinter1053 - It's just as easy to fold the larger "Cruiser" sail as the smaller sails. You have more leverage on the bigger sail!

can the larger cruser size windpaddle be folded while out on the water it seems so much harder to fold
