My cat does that but with feet. If I'm lying on the couch, he sits on the floor and stares at my foot until I drop it over the edge and then he jumps up to rub his head against it.
Cats are protective but dogs are more. A stray cat was out side and came up to me my dog and cat ran outside my cat just stood by my feet my dog however ran it out of my backyard the cat was at least like 20-24 pounds.
The first cat I ever had when I was a kid used to do that. She was a stray that we brought in. She was one of the nicest cats, and loved to be petted. This made me smile as it reminded me of her. Thanks. :)
I've seen quite a few cats that jump to be petted like that, they were really sweet. Most of them were strays, though... but hey, their sweetness got me to buy them some food (their wide-eye stares of surprise at being given meal was priceless!)
Maybe it's a calico thing (although we dont call them calico's in Australia they are called tortishell), my girl is the same, if my husband lets her she'll happily sit on his chest and head butt his chin for hours.
Is your cat a calico too? I've heard it's relatively common with them. One of our current male cats does the same thing when he's very happy, he's almost a calico (same patterns, but black and white only).
Now THAT is a rare sight my freinds. When you see a cat totally trusting you with its belly. Cats are usually very protective of their bellies. Great clip! :-)
She definitely could get protective sometimes. If she didn't want someone rubbing her belly, she'd grab their hand with her front paws and give a little warning bite.
She looks so soft i want to pet her so bad.....i see this, then remember my cats....then see this again...my cats probably hated meX3 but i didn't raise them from babies
We had a cat named Sweet at the same time, this cat's name was "Honey" though :) Made for lots of silly nicknames, as she was "Honey the money cat" (being a calico).

My grandfather's cat does that too! She's a Calico as well. I've never seen any other cat do that before. I thought that was just something she did.

Wow, how old is this video. *sigh* Things like this make me feel nostalgic. Take me back to my childhood! lol

I don't know the exact age, I'm guessing it's from the mid to late 80s.
Know what you mean about the nostalgia - it was a really nice surprise to find the old VHS tape a few years back.

Cats aren't "affectionate" like dogs are.
gibbersome 2 years ago
cat "are" affectionate, apparently you haven't had a cat so, you don't have any say in the matter.

Yeah, the way cats are socialized when they're kittens does seem to make a huge difference.
We've had most of our cats since birth (usually offspring of previous cats), she was unusually affectionate even among them.
