It is not correct to label artist of such magnitude as "pride to Kannadiga".
After he passed away, obituaries flowed from all over India.He stayed in Pune for many years- never proclaimed himself to be a proud Kannadiga. He sang in the spirit of "Mile Sur Mera Tumhara"-which ever sur was touched by him became golden.Even though I am a marathi, i started loving Kanadi after listening to these Dasawani bhajans.
This is one of the masterpiece compositions of Saint-Poet-Musician Purandardasa of Karnataka. In fact he is the father of Carnatic music who brought the classical music to the common man which was till then the prerogative of Royal Durbars only. Purandardasa has written more than 1000 songs, excellent poetry in simple language interpreting great philosohical truths like those of Sant Kabir. For each poem, he has prescribed a Raga, as well as a Tala.
