Some of that was not to bad, I've seen much worse. I've seen a commercial upscale resell shop have a 12 lamp track light witch the whole tack was ungrounded meaning it worked by energizing the track rail and then insulated the legs and lamps. So anyone one could be shocked if they would touch the light. I got them to change it out.
Knew someone that had a contractor build a garage and use 14ga wire in bx and buried it underground, it was hook up directly to the service line in the meter box, no breakers. Ended up having to rip it all out for him and and ran 4 guage wire to his basement where the main breaker panel with a 60amp subpanel in the garage using aluminum conduit, also had to upgrade his sevice from the 60amp fuse breaker he had, which the wire was rotted out, to a new 200amp service 4/0-3 SEU Aluminum cable.
The pic at 0:32 shows a Federal Pacific breaker panel which are known fire hazards. The breakers in those could fail to trip when an overload or short circuit occurs.
This video is completely useless to people who do not already have a clear understanding why these images are incorrect in the first place.
Pointing out "wrong" things, without telling us HOW and WHY they are wrong does not help anyone to know how to do these things properly.
Sure, some are obvious(extension cords outside as permanent installations) but ,besides the few common sense issues, we non-inspectors are just as in the dark after this video as before.
@ixamraxi if you need to know why these images are incorrect, then you should never touch live wires in the first place, is your life only worth $300-$400 ? that is the cost of making sure your home, wife and children are safe.
@findvoltage - You shouldn't be working on live circuits anyways, always turn off power when working unless absolutely unavoidable. The point was that things can be done in a way that they "look" fine/functional, but they that doesn't make them up to code. Say for example you "properly" install 15 amp plugs on 12 gauge wire, and then run some high current device. After your house burns down, you might not understand HOW or WHY it happened.
I am a carpenter and seen some good ones...Like the fuse was fried in the fuse box and the owner put a penny into the socket and screwed the fuse back on..."Its copper" he said "If it shorts out again, the copper will melt"...What's next????
Some homeowners do not realize the danger in quick fixes that are not thought out. We at LSI are happy to be able to point out these potentially dangerous issues and educate homeowners in safe maintenance of their homes.
by passed fuses with nails ive seen a few times. i saw a whole kitchen unit in a canteen wired into one breaker with a 2.5mm cable going to the unit and then connector blocked. out of the connector block came more wires which fed 2 ovens a water heater and 3 deap fat fryers. also a cable which went under ground which i couldnt trace. the kitchen unit was all metal as well
I used to work fore a Electrical Installation company and some of the thing i have seen was Hair raising. from Improper connection appliances, smashed sockets by past fuses with nails. bad cables raped with masking tape cookers with no earth ++++++++
