I don't know why everyone is going on about her being the first 'black' Miss America - she looks at least (probably more) half White - in Africa she would never be considered black, only in America...
Some of you younguns on here have no idea what a big deal this was. After all of those years of the Miss America pagent she was the first Black to win. There was never a sense of pride that went through this country...and of course you had hateful idiots, but the majority was very happy and proud.
Vanessa Williams is so beautiful. What is the big debate about her being mixed? I have some of her same features, and my mother is black, and my father is black. No one in America is only one race. That's why I don't understand racism. Everyone is all mixed up.
It's amazing how people are so obsessed with black people and the various hues. I don't think this day in age anyone is 100 percent anything. But people must realize that you cannot always go by color. Just because a black person is light-skinned doesn't make them biracial or even mixed. Tiger Woods is pretty brown to me but he's biracial. Vanessa Williams is light but both of her parents are black. Yes, she has a mixed background but genes will travel generations. Being black is more than color

who the hell cares that they took that useless crown away from her! she didn't need the crown..point blank PERIOD!! vanessa did VERY well in her career without it! and i'm glad she did! she posed nude, SO WHAT! I'm proud of her, she's beautiful and talented and that's what matters!
@lookatdadamage94 Do we consider her black? Her grandmother on her father's sider was black. Her mother was full Irish. Her father's last name was Nuñez before he changed to Carey. She's multiracial to me.
@josbo51715 I don't know, her hair was in a really tight, high bun. But her skin was quite dark, and she was the prettiest out of the other girls. The rest really looked like men, but some were really pretty.
To the the poster below...just think...this country that you seem to think so little of gives you the RIGHT to say the slanderous remarks you made...other countries would have hanged you on the spot :)
WTF is the point in having a miss America in the first place ? Man I swear American take shit to fucking seriously like the damn star spangled banner. I mean WTF.FUCK THE AMERICAN DREAM OMG AMERICANS GET ON MY NERVES WITH THEIR FUCKING PRIDE JUST STFU GOSH
@josbo51715 You are wrong. I worked for the pageant for 16 years. They did ask her, she denied it, and thus lied. She also signed a contract stating she never did anything immoral or opposed to the pageant's ideals. In addition to the immorality, legally she was wrong also. Don't make statements about something you don't know. I was there, part of the staff.
@primogennaio There is nothing immoral about taking a nude photo dummy. If this happened today, nobody would even care. She would probably have her own reality show. Vanessa Williams is the only Miss America that anybody remembers. I think it's sexiest to hold women to such a high standard of purity. We wouldn't even be having this conversation if she were a man. She opened doors. The black community is proud of her. That's all that matters.
@josbo51715 Then why don't you, your mother or daughter pose nude? I heard plenty of Blacks condemn her. What she did was disgraceful. There are better Black role models. As far as other famous Miss Americas, what about Lee Meriwether, Phyllis George, Gretchen Carlson? Keep your names to yourself, I condemned her, not you.
@primogennaio Scott Brown posed for playgirl and nobody called him disgraceful. You are only saying it because she's a woman. Stop being so sexist and judgmental. We were born naked. There is nothing wrong with nudity. You act as if she killed someone.
@josbo51715 Brown posed semi-nude. At the time he was not famous. The difference is he did not sign a contract with an organization claiming he never did so, one that represents morality and holds people as role models. She didn't kill, but she portrayed herself as something she was not. I am not sexist, but I have a right to condemn someone who lies publicly and deceives me. People did exactly the same - judged - Sarah Palin, George W. Bush and Montgomery Clift. It works both ways.
@primogennaio How is it a lie if she doesn't believe that her actions were immoral? You are assuming that your opinion is the only opinion. You think you are God.
@josbo51715 Dummy, you sign a contract and by the age of 18 you know what's right and wrong. If you don't understand that, get your brain checked and stop evaluating me.
@primogennaio Did you read her contract dummy? I guarantee that it did not say that she could not take nude pictures dummy. Stop judging people dummy. You are not God dummy.
@josbo51715 Yes, I did read it. I worked for the Pageant for over 30 years. She was 20 when she won and in college. If she didn't know that posing nude is immoral, then she's a real jerk. Truth is, she did know, she just didn't expect to be caught. If you feel posing nude is not immoral, then why don't you or a member of your family do it.
@primogennaio You are a real judgemental asshole. Why don't you do us all a favor and shut the hell up. Morals are subjective dummy. You don't get to dictate your morals for the rest of society. Do you think George Bush is moral when he murdered 100,000 Iraqi civilians for oil? Do you think Colin Powell was moral when he lied and convince the UN that Saddam had WMDs? Do you think Obama is moral for giving tax cuts to the wealthy and big businesses at the expenses of the middle class?
@josbo51715 I repeat - she signed as contract. When you go to work for someone, you do so on their terms. I have a right to judge someone who represented the company I worked for and disgraced it. If you don't like it, too damn bad. You'd feel the same if I worked for you and disgraced your company. As for the politicians you mentioned, I do agree, but they signed no contracts.
@primogennaio You are a moron! Politicians take public oaths which is contract you fucking idiot! Like I said, I guarantee that there was NOTHING in her contract that specified that she could not pose nude. Morality is subjective. One person may think that it's immoral for a woman to wear makeup. Another person could think that it's immoral for a woman to show her face in public. What makes your standard of morality greater than anyone elses?
@josbo51715 I saw the contract, you didn't, and you are telling me otherwise. She signed a photographer's release and a pageant contract. That's why she dropped her lawsuit. This doesn't penetrate your thick skull, does it? I'm not answering any more of your replies, obviously you are too ignorant to understand.
@primogennaio That's between Miss America and Ms Williams. And I'm sure that there is some type of confiendentiality that is supposed to take place. Your lack of professionalism demonstrates that you had no business working for them. Your personal biogtry and sexism makes you unqualified. I'm glad that you will not longer respond. You are a hateful idiot who passes judgment on others. Vanessa Williams does not owe you anything. You wish your wife looked half as beautiful as Vanessa Williams
beautiful...just beautiful and as she ages, her beauty just keeps growing. No disrespect to others opinions. But no matter how "white" she "looked" she was still a black woman and that gave the African American community something else to be proud of. She deserved to keep her crown but regardless, she's still had one hell of a successful ride. I positively love this woman. She made Ugly Betty, added the attitude to Soul Food and has joined the Music legend ranks. Go Vanessa!!!
When I heard that a black woman won in sept 1983 I was naturally excited just beginning my teens. Then when I seen how white she was I became angry. I felt disrespected. Why can't they pick a black woman that closely resemble the imagine of our female ancestors. Another white face with a black label blacks have to follow. NOT ME!
@nile3000 I would love to see a Miss America who is a dark skinned black woman with a big ole Afro. That will never happen. The mainstream does not appreciate real black beauty. Only a watered down version of black will be considered beautiful.
@josbo51715 In reality blacks are dark skinned. Thats the reality of it. My mind doesn't live in the world of make believe. I am just talking fact. I speaking about the big ole afro. I am speaking the map of the face, there facial features. I never got to know "mainstream" because thats group is brainwashed and braindamaged! lol
Beautiful girl and she definitely didn't deserve have a crown taken away. I disagree with her being called the first black woman crown Ms. America. Long live the Queen!
I saw vanessa once back in the early 90's at an SNL end of season party. She was drop dead gorgeous in person. Of course we haveall aged 20 years since then.
I remember this so well. Her father was my music teacher in grade school so we had a special interest in this. When she won I got teary eyed - my whole house was screaming with happiness! Not only did she deserve it but it also had special meaning as the first black Miss America ever and at the time it felt like breaking yet another barrier. Most of all I was happy she won because she was talented and has proved that many times over the years.
Seriously, beautiful now, stunning then. I'm bummed the pageant didn't stand behind her for just another month and a half so she could finish out her reign. They need to invite her back for the 100th anniversary (and they'd better at least stage the 100th back in Atlantic City).
@hoyageorge They did invite her back and she declined....I DON'T BLAME HER. She is billed as the most successful Ms. America to date. (funny how the ladies today, who has far worst things, were able to keep their crowns) As usual...they, totally, got rid of the wrong one!
It brings tears to my eyes to see this video. When I was a kid, I didn't watch the pageant because honestly, I assumed the winner would be the same 'ol type. Then I heard that a black woman won, and I was angry at myself for not watching. Now there's YouTube and I get to see it. Bless you!! It's also a joy to watch knowing who she became despite it all.
Vanessa Williams is arguably the Most Beautiful Miss America we may ever have. She just doesn't age that much. Compare her with all the Miss Americas 15 years younger than her age. Don't tell me it's bcos she is black and that she doesn't wrinkle fast. She is just darn the prettiest we've ever had. I have watched all the videos of the Miss America crownings right from 1951 on TCM. She just tops all despite her past. And she is probably a major influence in hyping the event in our generation.

Vanessa was, and still is extremely beautiful. That's never been in question. However......Donna Cherry, Miss California 1984 should have won that competition. She would have carried the title without controversy.
@svegas67 That may have some truth in ti, however, the scandal did not stop Vanessa because not only is she gorgeous..but she is multi-talented..so the scandal just helped to shoot her to stardom...
@rockdiva888 No argument here. However, I'm still biased towards Miss California 1984, Donna Cherry. She is also multi-talented. I watched her perform publicly since I was a very young child. She was my babysitter as a kid. She was recently in the major motion picture "The Ultimate Gift". If you haven't already seen it, I highly recommend it. It's an excellent movie. Great message.
i bet they knew about the photos b4 this. they just waited for the sake of publicity. is it a coincidence that the runner up also happened to be a light skinned-mulatto girl also?
@vipereyes96 Doesn't really matter because in years past no woman of color could get anything in this contest! I mean Lena Horne couldn't even stay at some hotels and she was light skinned. Black is black according to some. Doesn't diminish her accomplishment at all.
What upsets me as a Black man is the self-hatred that has been internalized by so many darker-skinned Black women that find fault with Vanessa Williams. We are the only race on the planet than comes in more than 20 skin shades of brown. Even if Vanessa *WAS* mixed, she still lives her life as a Black woman. Stop the self-hatred and love all of your Black sisters!!!
@JumpStreet1983 I disagree! It's not a personal attack against Vanessa Williams but I'm tired of Hollywood putting up light skinned woman as the representation of black beauty. That is not self-hatred. That is just telling the truth. The whole "black is black" argument is whack. The reality is that people worship light skinned woman and treat dark skinned woman like shit. You seem to have no problem with that. And black does not come in all shades. Black is black and mixed is mixed.
@josbo51715 i have light skin cousins FULL black and i have a light skin sister who is also FULL black so blacks do come in all shades and its callled genetics maybe u needa go back to school k? but i do agree w/ light skin women being representation for black beauty that needs to stop cus not all blacks are light skin
@lookatdadamage94 They are not full black dummy. A full black person is dark skinned and has kinky hair. These mixed mutts go around claiming that they are full black when they are not. Black does not come in all shades. Black is black and yellow is yellow. You need to go back to kindergarten and learn your colors dummy.
@josbo51715 They are full black, so one of my parents is dark and one is light i came out dark and my sister came out light that means shes mixed and not full black and that means im full black cus im dark but how is that possible if we come from the parents? are you black? ur probably not other wise u would already know
@lookatdadamage94 It's not just skin tone that makes a person black. It's also based on hair texture and facial structure. I know a real black person when I see one. Vanessa Williams is definitely mixed.
@josbo51715 but she has a wide nose and full lips, she also has afro textured hair my hair is just like her and its down my back just because she has light eyes and light skin doesnt make her less black its called genetics
@lookatdadamage94 That was the style of the eighties dummy. Everyone had poofy hair. It's called the "teased look. That doesn't mean that she has an Afro. If that's the case, the white women have afros too.
@josbo51715 HER HAIR ISNT TEASED THATS HER FUCKING HAIR TEXTURE DUMB ASSS! them white women hair looks teased but it doesnt has the same look and texture as blacks so just shutup ur obviously not black so u dont know what the fuck ur talking about
@lookatdadamage94 That's not her hair texture stupid. She has stringy hair like white people. She poofed it up with hair spray dummy. She has NEVER had an Afro dumbass.
@josbo51715 she doesnt have stringy hair wtf r u blind??? go watch her video "dreaming" and tell me if that looks stringy to you idiot! or go watch her music video "the right stuff" she has curly hair and its afro textured its not staight wow u r stupid ass hell
@josbo51715 and i came out with curly hair and not kinky hair so does that make me any less black although EVERY single person in my family is black? im black my LIGHT skin sister is black OUR parents are black we are black period point blank get over it
@Rayneslove That's your opinion. Actually, it's not your opinion, You have been brainwashed and subscribe to the one drop rule. Real black people do not come in all shades. Blacks means dark. Black is black and yellow is yellow. By the way, all Africans are not black.
@Rayneslove thank you rayne!!! beyonce is black, many blacks of creole descent and even north africa and the middle east are light skinned, there are such thing as light skinned black people. In fact black is the ONLY race that can go to every color spectrum, from blue black to albino! dont hate on us please lol
@apachee1000 When black people are light skinned or blue eyed and have caucasian features that's because OBVIOUSLY they had some black and white mixing in their heritage. Simple as that.
@valericool i think i know that, but theyr still black my family is soooo mixed when we have family reunions it looks like we're on ellis island because were so mixed.but those of us that have black in us it shows, as well as the other features of other races but at the end of the day mixed or pure black your still black
@apachee1000 Yeah, I know. I look completely white, but my great-great-grandfather was black, but there was a lot of mixing wih white people, so I was born white. Adriana Lima, the brazilian supermodel, she looks completely white, but her grandfather was black.
@josbo51715 Don't speak for me and don't put words in my mouth that I didn't say, because you don't know me. Yes, people do worship light-skinned Black woman and it puts dark-skinned women at a disadvantage. But should every single light-skinned woman be scorned and carry that load on her shoulders? No! Do you have solid evidence that Vanessa is mixed? No! Do Black people come in only one shade? No!
@JumpStreet1983 Yes! Light skinned women should carry that burden. By reaping the benefits of light privilege and not challenging it, they are actually perpetuating it. Tyra Banks is light skinned but she has always rejected light priviledge. I still disagree with you. Black only comes in three shades: brown, dark brown and purple. Any other shade is not black. It's mixed. I do not subscribe to the one drop rule. If a person does not look black, they are not black. Simple as that.
@josbo51715 I disagree, but I respect your opinion. I'm certainly not going to argue on Youtube about it. I choose not to engage in the "Dark vs. Light" argument because that is modern slavery to me. That's exactly what the slaveowners wanted: to turn us against each other. I am not a slave to this mentality, but do you!
@josbo51715 Actually the slaveowners wanted to give light skinned people extra priviledges and they wanted real black people to stand around and not say anything about it. These white slaveowners knew that they were the parents of these light skinned black people.
She blew the rest of the field away that night. It's hard to believe that forty years earlier, this pageant had it written in its bylaws that a competitor had to be of the white race. Shameful..
To bad Vanessa Williams would have to return her crown when the scandle of her nude & lesbian photos broke. I guess she had a decent career regardless.
Vanessa comes 4th in line from Black women that have changed the image of the Black female in mainstream society. Lena Horne started building the the bridge, Dorothy Dandridge crossed the bridge, and Diahann Carroll finished the bridge. But it was Vanessa who was the materialization of all their hopes and dreams, and her being chosen was the signal that said, "Finally, we as Black women are just as beautiful and equal as our White female counterparts".
@Jokwon1 Then they're are probably not 100% "black and therefore shouldn't be considered solely as so. Where I come from there are Asians, Whites, Blacks and mixed races. The "blacks" are from Africa and are very distinguishably black because of their genetic origins. If someone were mixed we would would say so by stating "lewk krung." followed by the mix of nations. Nothing rude...just saying, it's a different approach and perhaps a more accurate one.
@ProfsrAJ What I said is true, once again black people range from the lightest brown to the darkest brown which could be compared to an individual from the continent of Africa. The fact that a black person has a light complexion does not indicate the presence of other ethnicities within thier genetic pool. The same theory is true when it comes to a black persons eye color.
@kaelinvickery1 I care what color. When you are black and everyone especially then who represents beauty looks nothing like you, it sends a message. Vanessa is light-skinned, but looks like some blacks in my family and among friends. So it was a proud moment. If color wasn't an issue, there would be a black series on one of the major networks right now in 2011. There is not. Color matters.
I know who wins lol

Interesting facts among the giant of North, USA and the giant of South, Brazil.
USA was penultimate country to free black slaves. Brazil was the last.
USA elected its first black Miss America in 1984.
Brazil elected its first black Miss Brazil in 1986.
Interesting.

@bijamesF Which black Miss USA was weired out?
josbo51715 9 months ago
She entered the pageant under false pretenses, lied and denied honest girls the title. She deserved what she got.
primogennaio 10 months ago
@primogennaio She didn't lie. They never asked her if she took nude photos.
josbo51715 9 months ago
@josbo51715 You are wrong. I worked for the pageant for 16 years. They did ask her, she denied it, and thus lied. She also signed a contract stating she never did anything immoral or opposed to the pageant's ideals. In addition to the immorality, legally she was wrong also. Don't make statements about something you don't know. I was there, part of the staff.
primogennaio 9 months ago
@primogennaio There is nothing immoral about taking a nude photo dummy. If this happened today, nobody would even care. She would probably have her own reality show. Vanessa Williams is the only Miss America that anybody remembers. I think it's sexiest to hold women to such a high standard of purity. We wouldn't even be having this conversation if she were a man. She opened doors. The black community is proud of her. That's all that matters.
josbo51715 8 months ago
@josbo51715 Then why don't you, your mother or daughter pose nude? I heard plenty of Blacks condemn her. What she did was disgraceful. There are better Black role models. As far as other famous Miss Americas, what about Lee Meriwether, Phyllis George, Gretchen Carlson? Keep your names to yourself, I condemned her, not you.
primogennaio 8 months ago
@primogennaio Scott Brown posed for playgirl and nobody called him disgraceful. You are only saying it because she's a woman. Stop being so sexist and judgmental. We were born naked. There is nothing wrong with nudity. You act as if she killed someone.
josbo51715 8 months ago
@josbo51715 Brown posed semi-nude. At the time he was not famous. The difference is he did not sign a contract with an organization claiming he never did so, one that represents morality and holds people as role models. She didn't kill, but she portrayed herself as something she was not. I am not sexist, but I have a right to condemn someone who lies publicly and deceives me. People did exactly the same - judged - Sarah Palin, George W. Bush and Montgomery Clift. It works both ways.
primogennaio 8 months ago
@primogennaio How is it a lie if she doesn't believe that her actions were immoral? You are assuming that your opinion is the only opinion. You think you are God.
josbo51715 8 months ago
@josbo51715 Dummy, you sign a contract and by the age of 18 you know what's right and wrong. If you don't understand that, get your brain checked and stop evaluating me.
primogennaio 8 months ago
@primogennaio Did you read her contract dummy? I guarantee that it did not say that she could not take nude pictures dummy. Stop judging people dummy. You are not God dummy.
josbo51715 8 months ago
@josbo51715 Yes, I did read it. I worked for the Pageant for over 30 years. She was 20 when she won and in college. If she didn't know that posing nude is immoral, then she's a real jerk. Truth is, she did know, she just didn't expect to be caught. If you feel posing nude is not immoral, then why don't you or a member of your family do it.
primogennaio 8 months ago
@primogennaio You are a real judgemental asshole. Why don't you do us all a favor and shut the hell up. Morals are subjective dummy. You don't get to dictate your morals for the rest of society. Do you think George Bush is moral when he murdered 100,000 Iraqi civilians for oil? Do you think Colin Powell was moral when he lied and convince the UN that Saddam had WMDs? Do you think Obama is moral for giving tax cuts to the wealthy and big businesses at the expenses of the middle class?
josbo51715 8 months ago
@josbo51715 I repeat - she signed as contract. When you go to work for someone, you do so on their terms. I have a right to judge someone who represented the company I worked for and disgraced it. If you don't like it, too damn bad. You'd feel the same if I worked for you and disgraced your company. As for the politicians you mentioned, I do agree, but they signed no contracts.
primogennaio 8 months ago
@primogennaio You are a moron! Politicians take public oaths which is contract you fucking idiot! Like I said, I guarantee that there was NOTHING in her contract that specified that she could not pose nude. Morality is subjective. One person may think that it's immoral for a woman to wear makeup. Another person could think that it's immoral for a woman to show her face in public. What makes your standard of morality greater than anyone elses?
josbo51715 8 months ago
@josbo51715 I saw the contract, you didn't, and you are telling me otherwise. She signed a photographer's release and a pageant contract. That's why she dropped her lawsuit. This doesn't penetrate your thick skull, does it? I'm not answering any more of your replies, obviously you are too ignorant to understand.
primogennaio 8 months ago

NOT ME!

@rockdiva888 No argument here. However, I'm still biased towards Miss California 1984, Donna Cherry. She is also multi-talented. I watched her perform publicly since I was a very young child.
JumpStreet1983 1 year ago 3
@JumpStreet1983 THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
blkchk 1 year ago
@JumpStreet1983 I disagree! It's not a personal attack against Vanessa Williams but I'm tired of Hollywood putting up light skinned woman as the representation of black beauty. That is not self-hatred. That is just telling the truth. The whole "black is black" argument is whack. The reality is that people worship light skinned woman and treat dark skinned woman like shit. You seem to have no problem with that. And black does not come in all shades. Black is black and mixed is mixed.
josbo51715 8 months ago
@josbo51715 i have light skin cousins FULL black and i have a light skin sister who is also FULL black so blacks do come in all shades and its callled genetics maybe u needa go back to school k? but i do agree w/ light skin women being representation for black beauty that needs to stop cus not all blacks are light skin
lookatdadamage94 8 months ago
@lookatdadamage94 They are not full black dummy. A full black person is dark skinned and has kinky hair. These mixed mutts go around claiming that they are full black when they are not. Black does not come in all shades. Black is black and yellow is yellow. You need to go back to kindergarten and learn your colors dummy.
josbo51715 8 months ago
@josbo51715 They are full black, so one of my parents is dark and one is light i came out dark and my sister came out light that means shes mixed and not full black and that means im full black cus im dark but how is that possible if we come from the parents? are you black? ur probably not other wise u would already know
lookatdadamage94 8 months ago
@lookatdadamage94 It's not just skin tone that makes a person black. It's also based on hair texture and facial structure. I know a real black person when I see one. Vanessa Williams is definitely mixed.
josbo51715 8 months ago
@josbo51715 but she has a wide nose and full lips, she also has afro textured hair my hair is just like her and its down my back just because she has light eyes and light skin doesnt make her less black its called genetics

lookatdadamage94 8 months ago
@lookatdadamage94 That was the style of the eighties dummy. Everyone had poofy hair. It's called the "teased look. That doesn't mean that she has an Afro. If that's the case, the white women have afros too.

@josbo51715 HER HAIR ISNT TEASED THATS HER FUCKING HAIR TEXTURE DUMB ASSS! them white women hair looks teased but it doesnt has the same look and texture as blacks so just shutup ur obviously not black so u dont know what the fuck ur talking about

@josbo51715 "Black" comes in many shades. All full black people are NOT dark skinned...where do you get your information?
Rayneslove 8 months ago
@Rayneslove That's your opinion. Actually, it's not your opinion, You have been brainwashed and subscribe to the one drop rule. Real black people do not come in all shades. Blacks means dark. Black is black and yellow is yellow. By the way, all Africans are not black.
josbo51715 8 months ago
@Rayneslove thank you rayne!!! beyonce is black, many blacks of creole descent and even north africa and the middle east are light skinned, there are such thing as light skinned black people. In fact black is the ONLY race that can go to every color spectrum, from blue black to albino! dont hate on us please lol
apachee1000 5 months ago 3
@apachee1000 When black people are light skinned or blue eyed and have caucasian features that's because OBVIOUSLY they had some black and white mixing in their heritage. Simple as that.

@valericool i think i know that, but theyr still black my family is soooo mixed when we have family reunions it looks like we're on ellis island because were so mixed.but those of us that have black in us it shows, as well as the other features of other races but at the end of the day mixed or pure black your still black
apachee1000 3 months ago
@apachee1000 Yeah, I know. I look completely white, but my great-great-grandfather was black, but there was a lot of mixing wih white people, so I was born white. Adriana Lima, the brazilian supermodel, she looks completely white, but her grandfather was black.
valericool 3 months ago
@josbo51715 Don't speak for me and don't put words in my mouth that I didn't say, because you don't know me. Yes, people do worship light-skinned Black woman and it puts dark-skinned women at a disadvantage. But should every single light-skinned woman be scorned and carry that load on her shoulders? No! Do you have solid evidence that Vanessa is mixed? No! Do Black people come in only one shade? No!
JumpStreet1983 8 months ago
@JumpStreet1983 Yes! Light skinned women should carry that burden. By reaping the benefits of light privilege and not challenging it, they are actually perpetuating it. Tyra Banks is light skinned but she has always rejected light priviledge. I still disagree with you. Black only comes in three shades: brown, dark brown and purple. Any other shade is not black. It's mixed. I do not subscribe to the one drop rule. If a person does not look black, they are not black. Simple as that.
josbo51715 8 months ago
@josbo51715 I disagree, but I respect your opinion. I'm certainly not going to argue on Youtube about it. I choose not to engage in the "Dark vs. Light" argument because that is modern slavery to me. That's exactly what the slaveowners wanted: to turn us against each other. I am not a slave to this mentality, but do you!
JumpStreet1983 8 months ago
@josbo51715 Actually the slaveowners wanted to give light skinned people extra priviledges and they wanted real black people to stand around and not say anything about it. These white slaveowners knew that they were the parents of these light skinned black people.

Vanessa comes 4th in line from Black women that have changed the image of the Black female in mainstream society. Lena Horne started building the the bridge, Dorothy Dandridge crossed the bridge, and Diahann Carroll finished the bridge.
