He basically invented r&b..im stuck in the classics...like eric clapton and jimi Hendrix and older.. I like this guy.. he is good. He is oldschool 2.....One of my favorites. =D...lil wayne and that shit represents everything thats wrong with the world...all they talk about it bentleys, money, chicks, and drugs/alcohol.

  • i am probably the only teenager who knows and loves this song. my music taste is way ahead of my age

  • Wow, yeah you're they only teenager who does...

  • I grew up on this myself. While I'm 30 now, this was one of my favorites from the time I was 6 years old.

  • LONG LIVE THE OLDIES!!!! I should have been born in the era of oldies.... THEY NEED TO BRING BACK TO GOOD STUFF!

  • LOVE IT

    ITS SO TRIPPYY

    hahaha

  • to the youngsters above: you have stumbled on one of the great talents of this era and I fully understand your loving this song (as I did when I first heard it in 8th grade in 1961-62!!). Take no grief from any friends who may criticize your tastes; they are the ones lacking. Seek out the countless treasures from this period: Del Shannon, Dion, Jackie Wilson, Ben E. King, Bobby Darin, the Crystals (girl group as are the Marvelettes)..list is endless. You will have the time of your young lives

  • they should bring dawoop back. i love it. i am not showing my age-but im a teenager. people think im weird for liking this. I LOVE IT!

  • music died after this era

    I am 21 and I can't stand today's music.

I was born in the wrong generation.

    This country is different now

    our culture is failing us

    I love the oldies

  • one of the best songs ever. and im only 14 years old. they should totally bring doowop back

  • Check out the YouTube vids of Groundstone 1, they sing acappella on the streets of NYC as good as any of the old groups they cover. They also cover Duke of Earl.

  • Great song!!! I hadn't heard it in a long time. Glad I found this.

  • Woo I love it!!!

  • who played on this record anyway ? I know there is a Hammond Organ in there - great backing vocals - sweet sax and I hear brushes on the drums and a super bass line...thats just getting started ! Does anyone know where you can look up the session stats?

  • does anyone know where he is singing this cuz theres a lot of other videos of people singing in here is it like a show or something

  • you would have been even more cool if u would have included Otis who was the best ever

  • he was the foundation my dad always told me he and ray charles, smokey, the ruffin bros. and stevie..i was born cool

  • today was the first time i had heard this, a guys vocal group with female lead is doing it at school, which sounds amazing. i loved the song so have come home and looked it up. great song.

  • Everytime I hear this song, I think of the original "Hairspray" movie! Tracy Turnbland dancing to this during the Ladies Choice scene, I believe!

  • Me too! Loved it then and love it now...I can just see her glide gracefully with Link. lol

  • Great. Gene Chandler is one of the best voice of all times.

Youtube search for ELVIS ROCK DISCO 45 and you will see an honoring to many rock and roll's songs.

  • I'm the Duke of Earl

  • This is one of my favorite songs to play on saxophone. Duke of Earl rox my sox!!!!!

  • quite literally glorious vocals

  • My name is Chandler Gene and my Dad's name is Earl Duke! Crazy I know. Anyways BAMF song. This is truly great

  • Loved this song growing up, I am 56. Never seen the video untill today. FANTASTIC. What a powerfull voice he had.Loved the religious thing with claping hands, How powerfull that is...

    Kaptain Rolly Spark

  • nice song, nothing beats the classics!!!

  • right on

  • the audience is typical of this type of film...first of all the director did not know how to direct audience reaction to this type of song, remember rock and roll was still considered race music, so with that being said the audience is only doing what they are being directed...they may very well want to jump on stage and hug him,but not in the fifties.

  • wow you can tell the times have changed the music is a reflection of the good times people were having not all the strees we have now and i wasnt even around in the 60' 70's but i wish i was

  • i used to sing this into the mirror in my bedroom, wow i loved this song.

    God bless

    Peace all

  • Can't get enough of the Golden Oldies!

  • this has always been a favorite of mine, but when I listened to it with one of my best friends at work, she made me love it even more..........love this song, nothing but good memories.......xo

  • I was lucky enough to see this great man in an Oldies Show with the Marvelettes, the Shangri La's, and a few more that I can't think of at the moment. Can you believe that the concert took place about twenty years ago in a public high school cafeteria.

  • u see the racist white people in the croud lol wow haters

  • lol yeah at 1:46. How can they have such a miserable look on their faces when such an amazing song is being performed?

  • Wow - and you can tell all this from seeing a glimpse of them on an old video.... That would probably explain why they came to the show in the first place, huh? You're a legend in your own mind, you know that?

  • What makes you say they're racist? Just because they aren't crowd-surfing or throwing roses on stage? This obviously takes place at a nicer restaurant/club and they're sitting back and letting this man do what he does best. The clapping at the end also disproves your statement. If they were racist or haters at all they would have either booed him or stayed completely silent.

  • lol me 2.

  • haha im nt 8 if thats wat u thought i ment haha nvrmind

  • Im only 8 and i like this song, lol jk...this song is a clasic and will neevr be forgotten, the oldies are the best!

  • This song sounds good, but all of your comments are a real scream. Thanks cause

the way the world is lately we need all the laughs we can get.
