Will Hal Leonard come after you? Highly unlikely, but several big YouTubers have had their entire catalogs of cover songs removed over the last year over this very issue.
As a commercial artist I'm all for copyright protections. People have stolen my art for commercial gain and I've had them stopped. I believe in the "fair use" of copyrighted material for educational uses. If my art inspires someone to make an interpretation of it that's OK. As long as it is not a direct rip off. If they link or acknowledge my original work then it benefits me.
Hopefully my cover songs inspire folks to either learn the songs or go out and buy them.

The song isn't copyrighted...just the mechanical reproduction...She can cover whoever she wants in the "public "domain".

So far doing cover song interpretations for non-commercial use is not a copyright infringement. I think my cornflakes are safe. Knock wood.
