Not in the American military. I did four years in the Navy and men do most of the heavy lifting, physically and mentally, yet are paid the same. If you study primate behavior, you see that female primates are a privileged class that live higher quality lives.

@shadywillow That is fair. If you review the physical standards you will see that females are required to do fewer sit ups, push ups, and are given more time to run a mile and a half. I was a weather man for the Navy, and few females could run the complicated forecasting programs and were unable to move the helium bottles for our weather balloons. Most of that work was done by the men. The females of my same rank were less capable, expected to produce less, yet were paid the same amount I was.
If physical requirments are lowered for them that means they are doing less work and if that's the case they should be paid less. Why not lower the physical requirements for smaller weaker men then? I have no problem with women in the army and navy as long as they meet the same physical requirements as men and while most women can't there are some who do have the strength and endurance to keep up with men.

I have an issue with what the one lady said about gender in biology versus culture. Of course there are biological differences but I would argue that the biggest differences are cultural. Look at why transexuals have such an issue. If it was just jumping a biological gap it would be easier but they have to bridge a cultural gap as well. Look at children born with ambiguous genitals. @shadywillow That is fair. If you review the physical standards you will see that females are required to do fewer sit ups, push ups, and are given more time to run a mile and a half. I was a weather man for the Navy, and few females could run the complicated forecasting programs and were unable to move the helium bottles for our weather balloons. Most of that work was done by the men. The females of my same rank were less capable, expected to produce less, yet were paid the same amount I was.

If physical requirments are lowered for them that means they are doing less work and if that's the case they should be paid less. Why not lower the physical requirements for smaller weaker men then? I have no problem with women in the army and navy as long as they meet the same physical requirements as men and while most women can't there are some who do have the strength and endurance to keep up with men.

I have an issue with what the one lady said about gender in biology versus culture. Of course there are biological differences but I would argue that the biggest differences are cultural. Look at why transexuals have such an issue. If it was just jumping a biological gap it would be easier but they have to bridge a cultural gap as well. Look at children born with ambiguous genitals. The biological sexes are redefined, represented, valued, and channeled into different roles in various culturally dependent ways. Animals don't have a culture, people (which is what this is about) do not merely internalize gender roles as they grow up but they respond to changing norms in society.If it was masculinity was natural all men would be masculine, how are you still arguing this?

@nigen I have been firmly arguing that masculinity is a societal construct for HUMANS which it is and I have proven time and time again, it is not my fault you are unable to make a point. Gender roles are defined for humans as a set of social and behavioral norms that are considered to be SOCIALLY APPROPRIATE for individuals of a specific sex.

@nigen Fatherhood has been demonstrated to lower men's testosterone levels. So being a father is effeminate? Testosterone is a sex hormone not a personality and convention like masculinity and femininity. They are culture concepts invented by man not nature.
