One rarely sees Shearer that girlie - and what a car!! MGM had money coming out its ears to do expensive ballroom sequences (despite primitive microphones rendering dialog unintelligible) and complicated location shooting....without a boom mike!
Blue Is The Night shouldn't be so hard to find. It has been recorded many times over the years. I don't know if this particular version was released on record though. The 1929 recording by the Ipana Troubadours is fairly similar in style and has been released in recent years I think.
Thank You Thank You Thank You for posting this clip!!! I've been looking for this song for years! When I heard it the first time I saw this movie I really liked it and could not for the life of me figure out the name of it. Now I have it thanks to you! Also, this is one of my favorite Norma Shearer movies. Her acting is almost eerily modern and real in the scenes after the plane crash when they are they are stranded on the island. But I love Norma in WHATEVER she does!!!
My life long love has fallen in love with this song, and I have to find the sheet music, and the recording if there is one to be found. Can you say? Thanks for this however, it is a real romantic life saver!
they're cute, i just saw "private lives" and i thought that they were adorable together and absolutely HILARIOUS! when he slapped her and she started screaming and the two of them got into that big fight...I WAS ROLLIN' !!!!!
Ms. Shearer, Joan Crawford, to name just a couple of stars, I believe were lucky to have Robert Montgomery as their love interest in their films. He is one of the best!
This kind of public behavior has gone the way of travelling salesmen and unlocked doors in today's alienated society. How nice to see that it was once possible for people to be so trusting. Now, Montgomery would more likely be portraying a serial killer.
Norma Shearer got an Oscar nomination for this film!!!

What is with Norma Shearer's annoying fake laugh?? She ruins every pre-code pic for me. Mr. Montgomery on the other hand is quite appealing.
