Forget the series finale "Survival" - They should have ended the 1989 run right there. The last scene of Doctor Who until 1996. It would have drove fans crazy for a decade.
The best part about this is his facial expressions. He starts out so nonchalant, like, "Welp, guess it's about time to dangle myself off this cliff." And once he gets down there, he's pleased with himself for accomplishing it so well. It's only at the very end that he starts to realize it wasn't such a great plan after all.
I think he did it because he saw a ledge and tried to reach it, but the brolly put him at such an angle that he would fall over the edge. That, or he dosen't think his plans through very well
The only logical reason he'd do something like that would be that there were guards or enemies or whoever he was against at the time coming from both directions on the walkway - there's only one place he could really hide, and that was down there.
If I'd written the script, that'd be why he was crawling down there
if i remember the reason from the script that isn't made clear is that he couldn't go any further in either direction on the walkway so he decides to go down
"oh that looks like a nice place to hang my umbrella then climb off the railing and hang off my unbrella for no logical reason, putting myself in mortal danger"
Oh God, I love this scene. It's like the Doctor's thinking "Right, I'll just slowly and methodically put myself in mortal danger in time for the cliffhanger ..."
Sigh. Whoever cut the scene from the script that explained this bizarre behaviour is either an idiot or a genius.
Anyone know where we can see a copy of the original script to see WHY he was doing that before the Director cut the scene that would have made this scene make sense??
ok. This was not actually a stupid move by the doctor. In the script there was a reason why the doctor was hanging by the umbrella but the director decided to cut it out so now the scene doesn't make any sense.
Many of he 7th doctors adventures had a lot of deleted scenes that when watched changed the outlook on the doctor.
This one confused me back when I saw it originally as well...It's not long after the Doctor's Regeneration...Maybe when he tried to lower himself down to the other ledge he'd forgotten how short he had become? ;D Colin Baker, at 6 feet, towers over the diminuative Sylvester Mccoy, at 5'6.
As scripted, the Doctor did have a logical motivation for his actions. The passage leading to the cliff was meant to be a dead end, leaving the Doctor no option but to scale the cliff face. This is unclear however.
Im Talking About The Uk Dumbass!! No one Cares About The USA! And what there feelings are on doctor who its a british show get over it!! or go and steal it like the rest of our shows!
Dont Diss The 7th Doctor And Mel They Were A Great Team FOR CHILDREN!! REMEMBER THIS SHOW IS A CHILDRENS PROGRAM NOT AN ADULTS ONE! and it seems that the adults are the only ones who diss the show !! bonnie and silvester played the carictars like they were so children liked them witch they did!! but adults didnt like mel or silvester so its confusing! An CHILDS!!! Show!! and adults dont like whats in it?
Dr. Who was as much of a show for children as was Star Trek. There was death and violence, as well as varying degrees of social commentary. You also have to understand that it was broadcast quite late in the United States, which is why it has an older, more mocking fanbase here.
@soundsadeal in the script they wrothe that he slipped, but the director cut that bit so it just looks like he's randomly decided to hag off a cliff :/
*Blink* So is this where the term "Cliffhanger" was born? What the F*CK WAS HE THINKING! LOL! I'm sorry, but the entire thing is just so stupid...you have to laugh. Which Doctor is this? I'm new to the fandom... ;D
I remember seeing that the first time around when I was a kid and being baffled by it......stupidity comes to mind and not my stupidity either, whoever came up with that 'cliff hanger' ending is what I'm making reference too!
The stupid tit! What was he doing? What the bloody ell did he thing was going to accomplish by intentionally manouvering himself into a fucking stupid cliff hanging? Terrible Doctor.
haha wow this show is shit

The Doctor: Oh dear, it's almost the end of the episode, we need a cliffhanger... Ah perfect, a cliff that I can hang from.

It turns out...EVERYONE knew about it before I did! LOL

Since when did the Doctor wander into the Cave of the Past? Did he just get back from tea with Giygas?

Why?

The corridor in front of him was supposed to collapse, but they took that out for some reason. Sylvester Mccoy's commented on it as well.

Hence, the Doctor did it for the lulz

I agree.
Also, I think it was something about the Doctor wants to get along the cliff, but there is a barrier so he has to go along the edge to get there.

i forget whata the reason was, wasn't it, it LOOKED like there was a path down but the doctor got it wrong wasn't it?

Hahaha, good theory, I like the way you think. This really doesn't make any sense though- why would he want to climb on a ledge in the first place?
