On the afghan war: According to then Nat. Sec. Adv. Zbignew Brezinsky he helped set the stage for a Soviet invasion of Afg ( ie to stage provokations) to give the Soviets their own Vietnam. The costly war was an important reason to the collaps of the USSR.
On GER vs POL: Read my comment more carefully. My point was the false pretence of starting a war, the lies used as pretext to invade. If POL was used as a training ground or if the training was done in Spain in the civil war is debatable.
