  • you guys have great timing!! A real joy to hear yous!!! :) Thanks!!

  • I just had a fun little dance at the end there. It's good to know people are keeping the real stuff alive. Thanks!

  • I often don't much like modern 'interpretations' of hot jazz, swing etc, but this is great, totally feeling it!

  • what is the ethnic background of 'yarian'?-chick who went to adam's high school

  • I think he is a combination of a variety of ethnicities, and if you look at his family tree it gets pretty wild & woolly with folks that lived in caves as recently as 30,000 years ago. There might even be a car salesman in there somewhere, but PLEASE don't spread it around. One thing is for sure though, the genetics that resulted in Mr. Yarian sure did produce one heck of a fantastic piano player!

  • what is the ethnic background of 'yarian'?

  • Bach Up To Me was really convenient for that tempo change. Brilliant :D

  • Just as too much rich food can do one harm is it possible that too much JAZZ-is there such a thing?-can harm one?If so,Tom,you must be suffering. This is sheer delight!

  • Great music! Makes me happy! Thanks for sharing, my friend!

  • Glad you liked it!

Yes, this was a fun set, and I'm tickled that I got this video!

  • This is very good indeed. Fats Waller is difficult enough for one pianist to play cleanly, for two players to perform so well and at such a pace is incredible.

  • Thanks for you interesting comment. and for watching this video. Yes, these two fellows are fantastic pianists.

  • Reminds me of our Mama, who played for the silent movies, when she was a teenager (late '20's. She could still play and sing things she had played all her life, up to the time of her passing, in 2000, at 90. Music will be your friend, when you're older. You don't forget what you've learned, like everything else!

  • Thank you for your very thoughtful comment. It is so true. I wish I could have heard your Mama play!

    BEST!

(too bad the youtube online conversion system always degrades the sound of those vids)

  • Dear Vanessa,

Thankyou for subscribing and the 5 stars.

    You are a doll!

  • Excellent job, guys! Like it very much, typical Waller.

By the way, after "Bach Up To Me" there's Waller's most famous hit, "The Handful Of Keys".

Does anybody know, did Waller record "Bach Up To Me" ever? Because this is also a great stride number, I didn't find it on my Waller CDs (about 10 CDs), although I have a great interpretation with Dick Hyman.

  • Title: "Bach Up To Me" (also: "Back Up To Me")

    Date: N.Y. June 8th 1936

Group: "Fats Waller & His Rhythm"

Herman Autrey (tp), Gene Sedric (cl, ts), Thomas Waller (p, cel, voc, gin), Albert Casey (g), Charles Turner (sb), Yank Porter (d) [provided my liner notes are correct]

...yeah, Dick's version is great too (but slightly faster

  • Five stars for this one.

  • Thanks for your comment. Also, it is the last 3 minutes of this video that really gets frantic! The part of the medley that is "Bach up to me."

    Tom

  • Tom, I really hope there is a way you can make a living off of this. The music is clearly underexposed and you have the intelligence and passion to make it work.
