hi, i bought some rice wrapping paper, however when i soak the rice paper with either warm or cold water, and it went soft, but.. it smell and taste a bit weird, so what is the best way to treat rice wrapping paper??
Vietnamese summer rolls is my 1st food in the world. your vid is one of the best vids of summer rolls on youtube that I watched. However, in the closing I want to suggest you can use a kind of sauce which is called "mắm nêm" in Vietnamese. It will give the perfect combination of flavor rather than fish sauce. You can also try snake head fish's meat ingredient. Moreover, You can fan gently water from your hand into the papers and your papers won't get so wet instead of immersing it into water
God damned I tried that and I failed miserably! First one it totally falled appart and the second one tasted totally different then the third one! My gf told me I have two left hands!!! When I see this video it looks so tasty!
very sweet video, it never ceases to amaze me however just how RUDE some people can be, sorry you have to put up with that. I believe if I ever posted a video I would disable posts just because of the rude people out there!
I wanna eat it, but not with comcomber(yea, I'm scared!I know its rubbish, but I'd rather be carefull then die on comcomber). What is a good replacement?
@WhoCareswhatever2009 I believe that you just down graded yourself to even less than trash. Let me tell you something you may not know. Gook is an ugly racist term used by tiny, tiny narrow minded people. And it is not like the Chinese weren't drooling cave monkeys like the rest of Homo Sapien species was before. I mean, seriously, you're making a whole complete argument out of FOOD. That is a desperate cry of attention. Now stop because you're making the rest of your race look like trolls.
vietnamese spring roll is an stolen idea from chinese spring roll. Those viet shit are shameless. Send those boat people home. Over 90% are refugees and are not immigrants.
@WhoCareswhatever2009: Shut up. Vietnamese spring rolls do not even look like Chinese rolls to begin with. Do Chinese people use edible rice paper ? I don't think so. Vietnamese spring rolls require all fresh ingredients (vegatables, shrimp, pork, etc.) instead of frying method like Chinese rolls.
China had occupied Vietnam for nearly a thousand years so there are some influences in cuisine before the French colonization. Stop posting your prejudiced comment if you want people to respect you.
@Theclowcard , rice wraps are invented by the chinese that migrated t vietnam. Noodle came from China dumb ass. You gooks were eating shit before the people to your north came and made you more civilized and live less like th swamp gooks you people are.
@TheLucifer69 , spring roll and egg roll came from the chinese, so did your pho. Egg rolls or spring roll dip into sweet and sour sauce. You swamp gooks eat mainly raw veggies untl your northern neighbors came and made you eat like humans.

Well vietnamese people can be really friendly and nice, once you get to know them. However, I got yelled at from one viet girl when i said that vietnamese got french influences in it.
However, viet food is highly underestimated in this country. I love how viet food got seasonings from China, india, china, france and so on. Deep rooted history, diverse flavors depending on region and extremely colorful dishes.
Thank you for the demonstration ... was there mint??? I remember eating Vietnamese Spring Rolls in Los Angeles, the sauce was more of a sweet chili sauce (similar to the sauce used in Singapore) and had mint sprigs vs. the fish sauce you made - although I enjoy that very much as well. I like putting pork knuckle in my roll. Thanks again!
I would have liked this video more so if I could have heard what was being said over that music. I really despise music being so loud in a video that it drowns out the persons voice that is speaking.

@100tuyetvan cha gio is egg roll goi cuon is spring roll you can eat it with whatever you like :P usually spring rolls are eating with peanut sauce and egg rolls with fish sauce :) I like to eat my spring rolls with hot sauce and hoison sauce
@100tuyetvan there's nothing weird with that . u could either eat the salad roll with peanut sauce or fish sauce but it would be better if u add a little lemon juice or vinegar , sugar and hot chilly to the fish sauce .
I love spring rolls!!!! The perfect spring roll for me would have to have shrimp in it with a really yummy (non spicy) very sweet peanut sauce!!!! Is that Pho that is in the bowl on the table as well?!
Love vietnamese spring rolls. Cooking for a large family, I have to wrap quick and usually make 3 per minute. I prefer hoison sauce with peanuts for dipping :)
@Fungusjones Yes,They do come in all sizes. It's strong enough if double ,triple , or quadruple sheets. The more sheets you use the stronger and tougher the role is. In fact, it's like rubber band.
@Fungusjones I really doubt a spring roll wrapper can hold the weight of an average sized burrito, that being said, you could always put 2-3 wraps together to hold more weight.
I've always heard of these called spring rolls and the fried version egg rolls in English. In French we also called them spring rolls ( rouleaux de printemps) whereas the fried ones is called "nem".
In Vietnamese, this traditional dish is called "gỏi cuốn," which means "mixed salad roll." In English, it is called summer rolls (disbelievers, google it if you must).
It's a delicious, versatile, and might I even say easy dish to learn.
@Bleachano i stated vietnamese people. most vietnamese people i know calls it spring rolls. Other nationalities call it whatever you want i really can care less.

@xxbaybiee Even though they're technically spring rolls, these are actually given a different name, because they use vermicelli noodles. Between the two, there isn't much difference except for the condiments used, so many people (including South East Asians) mistakenly refer to these as spring rolls.
You have the right ideas, except for the fact that these aren't called spring rolls.
@KwasimotoTV Mmm, i don't agree because the fact that you said there are different condiments are used in them shouldnt make a difference.. the only difference is the vermicelli. other than that it's the same thing. That's like saying a hotdog without ketchup is not a hotdog because it's different. Btw, if you go to a vietnamese restaurant that's what its called. & i do believe i called out vietnamese people so if it's different for your race... sorry.
@xxbaybiee Rough translations are frequent when transitioning from an Asiatic language to a western language. Still, contrary to your beliefs, what you call spring rolls are really called summer rolls. Spring rolls are often mistaken for egg rolls, which look and taste similarly, except egg rolls use a wrap made of egg as opposed to rice or beans.
And I'll be darned about my race, since my parents came from Da Nang and Vung Tao and I was born in Sai Gon and grew up in Long Khanh.
@xxbaybiee As to address your hotdog analogy. It matters less to Americans what a hotdog is made out of, it's still a hotdog.
If you were to reference noodles however, different ingredients make different dishes. If you were to put chow mien into a pot and cook it, the dish would be much different than if you put in bun (rice noodles). And still that would be different than if you used my (egg noodles). And still that would differ from mien (bean noodles). Yet westerners still call it noodles.
@KwasimotoTV So let me guess, you're from the north? Well i was taught to call it spring rolls & my family is from the south. & Please, just because i'm young doesnt mean i don't understand my own culture. Wtf is a summer roll? Really... But since you consider this a "summer" roll, then wth is a spring roll to you?
@KwasimotoTV & btw there is many dishes that has bun in it.. but its still called bun.
bun rieu, bun bo hue, bun thit nuong. & all that other stuff.. it's still bun.. just made differently. So tell me how just because this is made with vermicelli.. it can't be considered a spring roll?
@xxbaybiee That's my definition of a spring roll. It's a fried variant of the summer roll. You don't put vermicelli in a spring roll because you can't fry vermicelli without it turning into mushy porridge.
@xxbaybiee lets just end with you call this a summer roll & i call this a spring roll. because i've never heard of a spring roll thats fried so yeah. this is going to go on & on.
@xxbaybiee Almost forgot to add. What many people think of as egg rolls are really spring rolls.
Egg rolls are called so for the key ingredient for the wrap, eggs. The reason why people mistake egg rolls and spring rolls is because both are fried.
I am not Vietnamese, I use any dipping available in the stores in Toronto. I have found this rolls are healthier, because it is not fried, so it is not oily. I also use small dice of mushroom, spinach and other vegetables, cooked them up a little bit and cool them down, then I wrap them with this white Vietnamese wrapper. I am being creative. If I cannot find the dipping I want, I dip the spring rolls into oyster sauce, or light soya sauce.
What kind of Vietnamese are you?! A hoisin sauce-peanut butter-vinegar mixture is the preferred dipping sauce for "goi cuon," not the fish sauce mixture you have! You should be ashamed . . . even though what you made looks tasty and is making me "chay nuoc mieng." :)
So many ungrateful and ignorant comments! Let me clarify some things for the rude and stupid:
- I heard and understood every word. The problem wasn't the music, it's you.
- Yes, the skins ARE made of rice, not tapioca. You're boldly ignorant.
- She made a spring roll that she likes. It's not the only spring roll in the world. Use common sense and realize you can put anything you want in them.
This was a thoughtful video. If you didn't like it, the problem lies with you.
Sorry for the double post! @annaernestine: The only herbs she used in the spring roll was the one she used for decoration. When she picked it she referred to it as "this." I'm fairly certain it was lemongrass because they said it was used for the scent. If you were asking about the herbs in sauce, it was a "sour fish" sauce with lemon, chili and garlic.
@angie723: Rude much? What's "super annoying" is your ignorance and rudeness. The "wrap" IS made of rice and NOT tapioca. Thanks for showing the world that you're not afraid to flaunt your stupidity and rudeness. The first clue to your immaturity is starting your post with "Ok." What are you, 12? Let's go to your videos and pick them apart now, shall we?
@wheresmylife. I think that you should look at your comment, and then decide who is "rude much" i was not the only person who mentioned the music. I have made these on numerous occasions and the way i was taught was using tapioca papers. I went to your page.. you are such a wonderful christian. :)
@angiek723 Actually, Angie, I do owe you an apology. I was very cranky and sleep deprived when I wrote that comment. I apologize for being so snide. I came down hard on you because of the way you worded your post. It came across as snotty and I've simply had my fill of rude comments - especially on videos that are nothing but nice. Don't you agree? (I think we both could have worded our posts differently.) Again, I apologize. I made her spring rolls today, actually!

@angiek723 well the music is annoying, but only because i'm not into music like that, and i'm sure you're not either, but there are various types of wraps, she's using a rice wrap, but yes, there are tapioca wraps
You can make any kind of sauce you like. Some people like peanut sauce, or sesame sauce or you can buy some salad dressing from the store. You can dip the spring rolls in. The rice wrap can be bought from Asian stores or in China town.
I remember tasting these for the first time. I gagged. but now I ate like about 4 or 5 today. I"m totally hooked...and I am a person that eats fried, greasy foods. these are so yummy

@xxbaybiee That's my definition of a spring roll. It's a fried variant of the summer roll. You don't put vermicelli in a spring roll because you can't fry vermicelli without it turning into mushy porridge.
KwasimotoTV 1 year ago
@xxbaybiee lets just end with you call this a summer roll & i call this a spring roll. because i've never heard of a spring roll thats fried so yeah. this is going to go on & on.
xxbaybiee 1 year ago
@xxbaybiee Almost forgot to add. What many people think of as egg rolls are really spring rolls.
Egg rolls are called so for the key ingredient for the wrap, eggs. The reason why people mistake egg rolls and spring rolls is because both are fried.
KwasimotoTV 1 year ago
wtf, this is not spring rolls dumb fucks. these are vermicelli rolls

You should be ashamed . . . even though what you made looks tasty and is making me "chay nuoc mieng." :)
acetjimmy 1 year ago
@acetjimmy hoisin sauce-peanut butter is just one of the many sauces for Goi Cuon'. Fish sauce is another.

It is so delicious and I like this video, but I'd like to know what kind of herbs she's using and I could not hear it. Did she mention it?
annaernestine 1 year ago
Sorry for the double post! @annaernestine: The only herbs she used in the spring roll was the one she used for decoration. When she picked it she referred to it as "this." I'm fairly certain it was lemongrass because they said it was used for the scent. If you were asking about the herbs in sauce, it was a "sour fish" sauce with lemon, chili and garlic.

Turn the music down! Also, I believe these are summer rolls.

Theres no such thing as a summer roll in Vietnam. that just a new made up name to fool the Americans to spent more moneys.

ok, the music is super annoying, and the wrap is not made from rice, its made from tapioca..
angiek723 1 year ago
@angie723: Rude much? What's "super annoying" is your ignorance and rudeness. The "wrap" IS made of rice and NOT tapioca. Thanks for showing the world that you're not afraid to flaunt your stupidity and rudeness. The first clue to your immaturity is starting your post with "Ok." What are you, 12? Let's go to your videos and pick them apart now, shall we?
wheresmylife 1 year ago
