@omitnot Glad u had a good start - commiserations re the cricket. Not enough vim and vinegar from India at present, too laid back. Cricket may seem a tame, insipid, monotonous, dull, uninteresting, boring, vapid game to some, Groucho Marx included, but you and I know it's war on the cricket pitch... So to Adelaide for Sachin's 100th international ton. The strip is usually a batsman's paradise there, though the mercury can get a wee bit high.
@manfreadstraw agree...but we're also coming to the conclusion that just like any war, you need to sacrifice some veterans for youngblood... sachin might score that 100, but the nation might lose! hot shouldn't be a prob for delhi-ites & up north guys fm india - dry heat of summer :)
@omitnot A fortyish-something Bangladeshi told me last night that it's the IPL that's killing Indian cricket, aka 'slog-fest twenty-20'. His claim is India seem disinterested in test cricket now, preferring instead to chase big bucks in IPL, then contradicted himself adding the Waca pitch's pace was too quick for them. What surprised in Perth was the number of wides my Baggy Greens bowled that weren't called, followed by the predictable thunderous bouncer, and later the Indian bowlers bowled...
@manfreadstraw ...to my guys' strengths! I suggested to the cabbie the Indian gov needs to fund good quality practice wickets for the kids; he said there simply isn't room enough for full-size cricket pitches in India, which startled. Then naturally he bragged that currently Bangladesh could account for India with not too much trouble. But I take your point, time for new young blood to come through at the expense of this series' batting failures. I did expect a bit more from Laxman...
@manfreadstraw ...an elegant talented stroke maker when in form, and quite a tall big fellow too. Anyway, to Adelaide on Friday.
Hey, something else too -- Wikipedia's staging a 'global 24-hour black out protest' today against SOPA and PIPA, terror twins joined at the hip at birth seemingly. Shrewdly as always Barack is saying he doesn't support the legislation, Rupe is up in arms twittering every which way, but I'm certain Prez will do the predictable back-flip once Congress...
@manfreadstraw ...back it / pass it, as happened with the NDAA: National Defense Authorization Act: Indefinite detention without trial: Section 1021; Requirement for military custody: Section 1022. Forget their names now. Republican John McCain and Democrat Carl Levin drafted the legislation in total secret, obviously a bipartisanship agreement between the two major parties.
@manfreadstraw the comment about no room for full size pitches is more applicalble to bangladesh which is postage sized but with the population of the usa...you must know that sehwag onwards, all the johnny come latelies are from small town india -- no longer the bombays & delhis - so where did they get their practise from?
@manfreadstraw his inferences about the IPL and bouncy pitches i'll take, though...but, when ur away from your homeland u do get patriotic and that accounts for blowing up the talents of the bangla team!
good un...had a great start to my morning, thx.
