I played this game to the end and enjoyed it like no other game...Great scenery, wonderful atmosphere, challenging battles, great dialogues and so immersive...a true RPG, way better than Skyrim and extremely underrated.

On combat: If you had actually taken the time to learn the combat system, you'd see there exists certain patterns within the game. This is not a hack n' slash mindless killing game like Diablo (still a solid game) nor is it -probably more relevant to all you naysayers- World of Warcraft. The combat in this game takes timing, patience, and skill. Not SPAM SPAM SPAM.
Furthermore, leveling up is supposed to be difficult, as there is a huge island to explore and the devs didnt want it being rushed

Seriously, though, if you thought this game was crap because of the combat being too difficult or the journal not informative enough you have never really had a true RPG experience. You are probably used to games that hold your hand the entire way. This is one of the best sand-box RPG's I have ever played, and I hope it remains underrated so that the community stays positive and friendly. Popular games these days are infected with troll users.

@countingdown27 - it's repetitive though. the enemies just jump back to avoid your attacks, and ALL of them do it. there is no variety to enemy combat. guards jump back porcypines jump back ogres jump back birds jump back etc... the only way to kill them quickly is by forcing them into a cornered wall and shanking them. the AI can't do anything to you in that position. literally i found myself having to do this for every fight. you can try to fight normally, but it's fucking annoying

@countingdown27 (continued) the worst part is when you have spent so many hours on this game fighting these damned AI trying to level up and when you finally do that multiple times. the game makes you PAY an increased amount of gold for leveling up your skills! wtf and when your just fed up with the combat and you JUST want to finish the main storyline your forced to fight more and MORE. it's punishing to make me PAY to level my character up after the tedious combat it took to aquire a level up
@invisiblefiddle well if you take some time to learn how the enemies attack then you'll be able to win a fight. For example wolves attack in packs and they flank you, try to get to your side or your back. So if you lure them in a narrow corridor you'll fight them one at a time. Those giant birds back off when you try to hit them so, chase them back them to a corner and you'll win too.
This game is definately worth buying, especialy now when it is cheap on the Stream. Took me about 25 hours to finish it for the first time with relaxed playstyle. Cant wait for Risen 2.... :-)
I've beat both and them and I must admit the original Fable is at the very least 100 times better then Risen.

If you build your own computer, you can have one for up to 60 percent cheaper opposed to one that's pre-built. Buying an expensive pre-built computer is just dumb.
I've played this game twice and after arcania crap was out I went back to risen and played it two more times.Looking forward to see what risen 2 will bring now that I've seen some news saying that it's using motion capture.I would like to see some better lock picking , something like in two worlds 2 would be nice,everything than just press left & right would be better.
Just got this game for around ten dollars for xbox. I know people who have said the pc version is way better but I prefer gaming on the console. Anyway after about an hour to get use to the controls( main problem is fast turn speed) this game becomes pretty cool. It's way underated and worth the current bargain price. Xbox lacks good action RPGs so this was a pleasant surprise.

Seeing as how I can play ME2, Black Ops, Sims 3, Dragon Age 2, Origins, and Awakening, and many more games with stunning visuals with the graphics set all the way up, I don't believe it was my computer that was the problem.
