  • Nick hits all the right stops for me. He is a joy to listen to.

  • At 2:40 the performer is seen speaking to his feet. Perhaps he is saying, "This is your moment of glory feet. Time to shine!"

  • A true musician WOULD NOT use the printed music!!!

  • Good Bach playing ,just the right tempo for me, from a former page turner

  • Good Bach playing ,just the right tempo for me

  • Tempo does not do it for me!

  • Los pedales tiene un sonido demasiado grave... casi ni se escuchan, buena interpretacion!!!

  • Yay - an organist who plays well (nice touch on the keys) AND is a Cutie ;)!

  • Yes, I agree...on everything!

  • yet again, its on youtube, check it out live if you can, maybe then you'll hear your "notes"

  • This is stunning!

  • Yes,this guy is very very good, would pay top dollar for him to teach me how to play!

  • well it was fast enough!

  • It took him a moment or two to really sink into a good tempo, but then he ran with it. What a great performance!

  • Wow! A excellent performance with a amazing warm and tender sound. I wish to hear this Organ live in concert. But Washington is so far away from Germany. Greetings to all Lovers of Organmusic.

  • EXCELLENT thanks for sharing.

  • A very interesting video with a talented and tasteful organist playing a pleasant instrument (beautiful Plein-jeu) !

Nice to see there are serious and tasteful organists in the US, and not only "clowns of circus" like Cameron Taverner !

    Thanks for this video !

  • Keep up the work!

  • whats the name of the song hes playing?

  • Fugue in D minor, BWV 565

  • wrong

  • Then what's the name of it?

  • that is the name of it. what do you mean wrong?

  • You are wrong. IT IS BWV 565.

  • @Khmerb00 The organist is not playing a "song". The word 'song' has no place in classical music.

Instead, a classical composition is referred to as a 'piece'. To call a composition a "song" only demonstrates how ignorant one is,

  • isnt this the guy that was trapped in the elevator?

  • i dunt think so, i think he just happens to have the same name.

  • Why the hell would they want to replace this wonderful instrument with a Dobson? How rediculous,it's a Skinner!

  • I'm not fully familiar w/ the situation, but these days any time a large Skinner is replaced, its because it actually has been so modified over the years that it is no longer a Skinner at all. Guaranteed, if there is anything left of skinner pipework, Dobson will incorporate it in the new organ. 30 years ago, on the other hand, and perhaps even 20, Skinners were being taken to the dumpster. Chances are this Skinner did not fare well in that era.

  • I've been to the cathedral in the last few months, and when I was there I bought a CD of the great Skinner there. Inside the Cd cover, there was an article about the history of the Skinner, and in the last paragraph of the article it talked about the new organ project. It's also online on the National Cathedral's website. Dobson is going to retain the best of the Skinner. BTW, Andyofvermont, the modifications to the organ were done by Aeolian-Skinner, Skinner;s successor firm.

  • Sweet! Awesome Organ!

  • About this video . . . "performed in 1996 by the cathedral's assistant organist, Nicholas White." LEARN TO READ!!!

  • Just between you & me (& the occasional person who looks at my videos), I think Vinaigrette is a friend of Nick's ;-)

  • Who is that handsome devil?

  • Amazing performance indeed.

But organ music should disconnect with Catholic Church.....

I enjoy (and play) pipe organ, as much as I don't beleive......

  • I don't quite get your point ;-). This is an Episcopal cathedral.

  • Too bad about the Skinner. It would also be nice to know the name of the organist, who does yeoman work with the old warhorse.

  • If I could track him down to get his permission, I'd be happy to reveal his name. But I filmed this 12 years ago, & we lost ocntact with each other in the interim. He's in New York now, I think.

  • He's now up in Connecticut, as director of Chorus Angelicus. He's an amazing artist.

  • Very very beautiful interpretation.

  • breathtakingly beautiful!

  • man this is awesome, it soothes me and it sounds great

  • Yeah, it's a warhorse, but WHAT a warhorse. Makes me smile every time, especially when it's played this well. Very competent artist.

  • This guy is AMAZING....does he still perform @ the Washington Cathedral? Absolutely SUPERB!!!!!!!!!

  • Last I heard, he's in New York. but I'm having trouble getting in touch with him. If you want to hear this great instrument, you better get there soon. They're tearing it out next summer & replacing it with a 100-rank Dobson -- and using only about 40 ranks of the existing 189. Which is a damn shame: this is one of the great instruments in the world.

  • Only in America is something great like this organ being destroyed. If it's replaced, it should be with a Cavalle-Coll.

  • Well, they're putting a 90-rank "French/German-style" tracker-action Casavant in the west end of the nave, to complement the new Dobson at the east end.

So that should help. Unfortunately, Cavaille-Coll went out of the organ-building business many years ago.
