if you want an interesting listening experience, listen to low's music really, really insanely loud...like, metal loud. you'd be surprised how cool it is
This is a real floor-filler, if ever there was one!
Actually I'm just watching because I like Zak Sally's comix and wanted to check out the creative fruits of his earlier career....and I must say I like his solo music a lot better. I don't know how much input he had in Low music but they're pretty different, stylistically.
@kezz1zel she's cool too.....i wrote chairkickers for some cd's when i was incacerated and she replied to me! very cool, and Alan threw in a promo cd of his side gig....
ahhh man, i know this sounds cheesy as hell, but this song is a complete feeling of comfort to the loneliness i've been feeling recently... sounds stupid i know! but seriously, there's some songs that just fit whatever mood so well. inspirational!
Saw Low last night at Bristol Trinity. They were absolutely amazing. I've loved them for ages, but this was the first time I'd caught them live. Reinforces my love for them even further.
What an unexpected treat to see Barron Von Rashke. What a cool wrestler he was. He should have put "the Claw" on the people who turned down his balloon offer!
I don't think of myself as "depressed." Often I feel dismayed, and sometimes disillusioned, but I think of music like this as meditative and usually relaxing.
@cvijetics This has got to be the most amazing song. I've never had so much difficulty describing it's pure beauty. Going to their concerts would be.. undescribable :)
Mimi Parker's voice is one of the most beautiful I've ever heard. I got introduced to Low back in high school, and I was fortunate enough to get a few of my CD sleeves signed by Alan, Mimi and Zak. Low is one of those rare bands that make you realize that, when you stop moving at such a hectic pace for a few minutes and close your eyes, you'll understand how beautiful music like this truly is.
This isnt the type of music i usually listen to.. i like bands like cannibal corpse.. SOAD, Children of Bodom ect.. but having watched skins, Where Point Of Disgust Plays, ive really been into LOW.
I find this to be a very haunting song, yet there's something beautiful beneath all the layers of melancholy. I also really love the harmonies Alan and Mimi perform in their songs. It gives an edge to their music.
it is such a beautiful piece of music, it stimulates my imagination and is somehow ethereal and uplifting in it's exquisite sadness. Like autumn leaves falling and feelings of lost love, melancholy yet comforting at the same time. What an absolute treasure this group are!
I grew up with this group. They were a closely guarded secret among my close friends. A decade later, my kids are watching "Yo, Gabba Gabba!" and I hear them again doing a family song. I had to look them up again. Sweet memories.
I always find it interesting that as soon as people hear a sound; whether a voice, or a note, that causes reflection, they shy away and complain of being depressed. Most just want a distraction from actual feeling. Seems to me that's why such crap is allowed on the radio. The same formula of 'happy' distraction to keep the masses 'happy.'
Take a moment. Cry if you have to. But enjoy it all.
@FrancisLuke000 i always found songs like these make me feel better. im not the most positive person and when i listen to songs that i feel i can relate to it helps me. i guess i makes me feel less alone. thats why i want to be a musician. if i could just make one person feel better and effect them the way others music has effected me, my life would feel complete
@FrancisLuke000 you have been and are still so very right after two years of saying what you said.. a distraction from feeling real feelings, real depths...
@FrancisLuke000 I like songs that empower you as well as help you reflect on what you've done. Some people use happy songs to not go where they don't want to venture out into unknown waters. I can't be too mad at them for that. But then again if you don't let yourself feel everything then you won't be being human.
@PomaiKajiyama Are the emotions and experiences of "living" somehow separate from or more important than the emotions and experiences we have of listening to music? Nietzsche famously said, "Life without music would be a mistake."
Melancholy is certainly the mood of the song. Melancholy is a mood characterized by a deep gloom or depression. Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is an album by The Smashing Pumpkins.
Ya they are so awesome!!! I went to UMD with Alan. Their music always reminds me of a slow, dreary, cold, day in Duluth. It's like you can feel th hustle-bustle of real life leave your body when you listen to their music.
The man with the balloons is Baron Von Raschke ("The Clawmaster"), a professional wrestler from the 70s and 80s. He was my absolute favorite as a kid, and I still think the guy rules. Apparently, so does the St. Paul History Theatre, since they just produced a play about him in the spring of 2007. His famous tag-line during his wrestling years was "...and that is all the people need to know!"
Thank you, my dear friend :-) This was right up my alley, I LOVE it! From the lyrics to the video, it ruled! I always loved that color-scheme, similar to "Take a Bow" by Madonna, that's so romantic... :-)
The album from which this song comes (plus their first) were engineered by Kramer at Noise New Jersey...lots of reverb, very beautiful...If you like this you should check out Galaxie 500 (another Kramer-recorded band)...

Post Rock et all, in particular (even at it's darkest) is NEVER depressing.
Plastic "emo" bands on the other hand?
Now THAT'S depressing, but for an entirely different reason... Haha.
