@MichaelkSimmons full tang yes cold steel make some of the toughest beaters out there, but its not damascus, our modern steel and methods far supass damascus as the folding process can crete air pockets and can remove vadium and more which is a critical element to sword making
How's the saya (scabbard) on that thing? Somebody complained about it being made of pine wood and that it chips & cracks easily, especially if dropped onto a hard surface.
@tallswede80 Very well. Seems like a wicked blade, I'll try & fetch one.
I've got a Hanwei Miyamoto Musashi daitō myself, but I'd like another katana that's easier to maintain for practical use. And if you're looking for a good 'home defence' blade may I suggest the Hanwei Tactical Wakizashi (TacWak for short). Excellent quality, manoeuvrable blade and affordable price.
nice sword.but for home defense i recomend a gun think about how the police will react when they come veiw the scene after you wiped out two guys with a sword. plus if your in the crooks sites and they have a gun you gotta be extra quick with a sword lol
@WereAwesomexD3 even if the sword can what makes you think the user is fast enough to out manuver a bullet. maybe an old cowboy action loaded bullet on a really good day but never a modern powerful kill a man load.
like i said before think about how the police will react when they see the scene. for home defense buy a gun
The police don't care. It's the media that blows things like that out of proportion. The media decides whether or not they want to make you look like a sociopath, regardless of your God given right to protect your home. And it's usually based on race. If a white man protects his home against negroes, he is more likely to be portrayed as insane.
@tallswede80 trust me the police will care. a freind of mine thrown an ax at an intruder and they arested him as well as his intruders. it was one of thos ornate axes you find at flea markets ment to be like some fantasy rpg axe or some shit.
its much better just to use a gun. much safer for you. and you dotn look like a nutcase.
@choopdewoot That doesn't make any sense. You have the right to own a fire arm, so I think that you have the right to have an axe or sword in your home for self defense. You may break laws if you carry these out in public though.
The blade is longer than the Nodachi's. The nodachi, however, is longer overall because it has a much longer handle. I've never measured it, but that's what it says in the cold steel catalog.
It's possible. I was about 6 feet when I was 14. Keep eating vegetables. And one more thing, if you can afford it, buy vitamins. If you want the best vitamins available (the ones that I took and still take), let me know.
Well good sir, i believe you have the right length of blade for your height. 36 inches = 3 shaku 1.7 bu. What is funny enough is that this length in blade was believed to be the length the swordsman Sasaki Kojiro's sword wielded, but his sword was classified as an Nodachi. Interesting, very interesting. Enjoy your O Katana from Cold Steel :)
I love how honest Cold Steel is, I asked them how they make their Katana and they do not fold the steel! That is why the do not have a Hamon. I hate when manufactorors use lasers to inscribe their swords.
my bad in my last comment it made no sense I'm tired, who cares if its a folded blade, now a days we have way of making better steel, its just held in high prestige, because that steel was amazing for its day (still is amazing but we can still do better with modern techniques) Don't know about you guys but it looks like it has a hamon if you look closely, anyway its not like they aren't quality blades. Cold Steel is actually pretty damned good as far as knvies/swords go now a days.
That's not when the hamon is formed, and i don't know what you are saying I can fully see the hamon on that very blade, cold steel is honest, and they are good quality.
No, but the Hamon is complementary with a folded blade. The Hamon is not formed, but created during the polishing stage of the creation of the Katana. Oh, and the reason Cold Steel does not fold the steel is because they don't need to; using new blacksmithing methods folding the steel isn't required of its creation. I would rather have a handmade, folded steel Katana, but that woud cost 1000+ for a good one. I read your other comment so this isn't just for you.
i thought you were trying to say bad things about cold steel I'm pretty tired now and not exactly thinking clearly, so disregard my retarded first comment, i just think that cold steel is one of the best knife/sword manufacturers out there and it pisses me off when people go around talking like they can do better, which is what i thought you were doing, i just jumped to conclusions, but whatever I have been pretty stressed lately and should probably get some shut eye.
This shit isnt cheap, also why the fuck would you ever in yourlife need a 36" bladed katana? Seriously do you just sit at hole looking at the sword and cutting tree branches from your backyard? Go to a dojo and learn something about how to handle a sword, also the length of the blade doesnt matter as long as you know how to sheath it. And all the fucking coldsteel bladed weapons are same if you havent noticed, they always swing everything like a fucking bat,
it is a real katana...................and it can slice through meat like warm butter, but the bone would depend on the swordsman as well as the blade. I have seen cold steel blades do some insane shit and wouldn't have trouble believing one could go through bone.
Your point is flawed, authentic Katana made by authenic and traditional Japanese blacksmiths took years to make (at least the good ones) and they did not go through bone and flesh like butter. It requires skill and discipline to do something like that. You can whine and moan about their prices: but if you want a Katana that can do what the originals could, you have no choice but Cold Steel
Man I am glad you don't see many trolls anymore, how the fuck do you know what experience people have with blades? There are plenty of opportunities in which that katana would come in handy, depending on where you live and your hobbies. There are such things as enthusiasts, you know people who buy things, because they have an interest in them. Most enthusiasts actually learn how to use their collection.
It held it's edge remarkably well, I never cut into things like metal or rocks...I had it for about 6 months and sold it to a friend who wanted it really bad but didn't want to go internet. Just a quick sale...I basically lost interest. I later acquired the military classic knife in San Mai which is more functional, practical and beautiful. I would definitely recommend one to you.
Yea well that's what happened with mine, I emailed them because mine wasn't sharp they said to send it in for sharpening. So i did that, but they said it will take over a month because they have a lot of sharpening requests.
Sure. The placements like the round guard above the handle and right below the blade was a bit crooked, and the blade itself was placed at a crooked angle, and veered off a bit to the side. Additionally, the blade edge itself was not straight, and turned off to one side, rather than being uniform in the center of the blade. It's too bad because the edge was really sharp, and the placements were beautiful. If the sword was symmetrical, I would have definitely purchased it.
Hey there, nice vid. I just ordered this product, and I was wondering how the placements and blade are in terms of straightness. Reason I ask is because a while ago, I ordered an imperial series katana (cold steel) and the blade was crooked.

You're right about half of what you said. The 1796 has a hatchet point which lets you cut like nothing else on the planet. I can cut so well with it that I can face a mob and and feel comfortable. Furthermore, the fuller makes it light and easy to move. It's the perfect saber.
You should try the Napoleon- it's even more balanced, and as a result, your hand doesn't get tired as quickly as when you use the 1796, which is a bit unbalanced. The hamon isn't formed during the folding process, but rather through differential heat treating by use of clay, during the quenching of the blade.

Which is only used with folding of the blade or, more importantly, smithing the Japanese Katana.
