  • The only sword I have ad trouble with from Cold Steel is the Nodachi

  • is it full tang and or damascus?

  • @MichaelkSimmons full tang yes cold steel make some of the toughest beaters out there, but its not damascus, our modern steel and methods far supass damascus as the folding process can crete air pockets and can remove vadium and more which is a critical element to sword making

  • if your intrested in selling it id be intrested

  • @hulkbuster1026

Can't. I don't have access to it right now. In storage far away. Maybe later.

  • How's the saya (scabbard) on that thing? Somebody complained about it being made of pine wood and that it chips & cracks easily, especially if dropped onto a hard surface.

  • @Xanatos712 never dropped it on a hard surface, but I've also never chipped or cracked it.

  • @tallswede80 Very well. Seems like a wicked blade, I'll try & fetch one.

I've got a Hanwei Miyamoto Musashi daitō myself, but I'd like another katana that's easier to maintain for practical use. And if you're looking for a good 'home defence' blade may I suggest the Hanwei Tactical Wakizashi (TacWak for short). Excellent quality, manoeuvrable blade and affordable price.

  • nice sword.but for home defense i recomend a gun think about how the police will react when they come veiw the scene after you wiped out two guys with a sword. plus if your in the crooks sites and they have a gun you gotta be extra quick with a sword lol

  • @choopdewoot THESE swords can cut through bullets dude

  • @WereAwesomexD3 even if the sword can what makes you think the user is fast enough to out manuver a bullet. maybe an old cowboy action loaded bullet on a really good day but never a modern powerful kill a man load.

like i said before think about how the police will react when they see the scene. for home defense buy a gun

  • @choopdewoot

The police don't care. It's the media that blows things like that out of proportion. The media decides whether or not they want to make you look like a sociopath, regardless of your God given right to protect your home. And it's usually based on race. If a white man protects his home against negroes, he is more likely to be portrayed as insane.

  • @tallswede80 trust me the police will care. a freind of mine thrown an ax at an intruder and they arested him as well as his intruders. it was one of thos ornate axes you find at flea markets ment to be like some fantasy rpg axe or some shit.

its much better just to use a gun. much safer for you. and you dotn look like a nutcase.

  • @choopdewoot

That is a rare, fluke occurrence. Not normal at all.

  • @choopdewoot That doesn't make any sense. You have the right to own a fire arm, so I think that you have the right to have an axe or sword in your home for self defense. You may break laws if you carry these out in public though.

  • Is it a folded steel?

  • @JESUSISGREATEST

    No it's not.

  • @tallswede80 dosnt need to be folded lol. cold steel makes some of the best stuff around. the best mass produced swords ever

  • Whoa that's big!

  • youve said heavy give an estimated weight on this

  • you said it longer than the nodachi, which together with the odachi, were the largest blades of that era in japan... i think

  • @TheMrGarthy

The blade is longer than the Nodachi's. The nodachi, however, is longer overall because it has a much longer handle. I've never measured it, but that's what it says in the cold steel catalog.

  • I want to get a katana, thinking about this one does anyone kno how well this cuts?

  • you put that sword on the floor? how indecent of you !

  • så du är svensk?

  • @1bol1

Ja, but I don't know much swedish haha. Grew up in the U.S.

  • i need to see these up close and personal to appreciate them

  • @malevolenceXXXensues

    Isn't that what She said?

  • @tallswede80 i totally fell into that one lol

  • @malevolenceXXXensues

Actually, that one would work better with he said, you know, with boobies. Course, that's not as much fun.

  • @tallswede80 yea he he

  • @tallswede80 OMG That's the best looking sword ever!!

  • @JESUSISGREATEST

    Thanks, man!

  • very nice sword, i'm 14 and is 6' 2'', think i'll ever be as tall as you?

  • @Animefan2o07

It's possible. I was about 6 feet when I was 14. Keep eating vegetables. And one more thing, if you can afford it, buy vitamins. If you want the best vitamins available (the ones that I took and still take), let me know.

  • the nodachi blade is actually shorter -see the specs on the cold steel site-

  • Well good sir, i believe you have the right length of blade for your height. 36 inches = 3 shaku 1.7 bu. What is funny enough is that this length in blade was believed to be the length the swordsman Sasaki Kojiro's sword wielded, but his sword was classified as an Nodachi. Interesting, very interesting. Enjoy your O Katana from Cold Steel :)

  • How come it doesn't have a hamon?

  • his voice doesn't sound like he's 6'8" he problem can't even use it

  • @doubledipedchip

hahaha, why don't you enlighten me on how my voice is supposed to sound?

  • his voice dosen't sound like it

  • were is your katana made at

  • the white parts on the grip is Ray skin

  • I've never understood the correlation between height and weapon size. What on earth do they have to do with one another?

  • Get a firearm if you wan't home defence...

  • I wan't this shit right here... hell yea.

  • @85wifebeater

Of course. It's one of the best.

  • lol dude im 6'9;P

anyway awsome swrd dude tahnks for postinging it

  • @BladeWarrior99

    That's nice, thanks for commenting.

  • the japanese were of short stature but you need skill and valor to truly wield it in my opinion!!

  • Question: IS IT SHARP!?

  • 6'8" is wayyy too damn tall, lol.

  • I enjoy it.

  • I love how honest Cold Steel is, I asked them how they make their Katana and they do not fold the steel! That is why the do not have a Hamon. I hate when manufactorors use lasers to inscribe their swords.

  • The hamon isn't formed during the folding process, but rather through differential heat treating by use of clay, during the quenching of the blade.

  • Which is only used with folding of the blade or, more importantly, smithing the Japanese Katana.

  • my bad in my last comment it made no sense I'm tired, who cares if its a folded blade, now a days we have way of making better steel, its just held in high prestige, because that steel was amazing for its day (still is amazing but we can still do better with modern techniques) Don't know about you guys but it looks like it has a hamon if you look closely, anyway its not like they aren't quality blades. Cold Steel is actually pretty damned good as far as knvies/swords go now a days.

  • That's not when the hamon is formed, and i don't know what you are saying I can fully see the hamon on that very blade, cold steel is honest, and they are good quality.

  • No, but the Hamon is complementary with a folded blade. The Hamon is not formed, but created during the polishing stage of the creation of the Katana. Oh, and the reason Cold Steel does not fold the steel is because they don't need to; using new blacksmithing methods folding the steel isn't required of its creation. I would rather have a handmade, folded steel Katana, but that woud cost 1000+ for a good one. I read your other comment so this isn't just for you.

  • i thought you were trying to say bad things about cold steel I'm pretty tired now and not exactly thinking clearly, so disregard my retarded first comment, i just think that cold steel is one of the best knife/sword manufacturers out there and it pisses me off when people go around talking like they can do better, which is what i thought you were doing, i just jumped to conclusions, but whatever I have been pretty stressed lately and should probably get some shut eye.

  • so cold steel swords are worth the price

  • No, the price makes them a profit, but they are worth twice the price given.

  • This shit isnt cheap, also why the fuck would you ever in yourlife need a 36" bladed katana? Seriously do you just sit at hole looking at the sword and cutting tree branches from your backyard? Go to a dojo and learn something about how to handle a sword, also the length of the blade doesnt matter as long as you know how to sheath it. And all the fucking coldsteel bladed weapons are same if you havent noticed, they always swing everything like a fucking bat,

  • a real katana can slice through bone and meat like butter.

  • it is a real katana...................and it can slice through meat like warm butter, but the bone would depend on the swordsman as well as the blade. I have seen cold steel blades do some insane shit and wouldn't have trouble believing one could go through bone.

  • So your point is what? You sound imbalanced.

  • Your point is flawed, authentic Katana made by authenic and traditional Japanese blacksmiths took years to make (at least the good ones) and they did not go through bone and flesh like butter. It requires skill and discipline to do something like that. You can whine and moan about their prices: but if you want a Katana that can do what the originals could, you have no choice but Cold Steel

  • Man I am glad you don't see many trolls anymore, how the fuck do you know what experience people have with blades? There are plenty of opportunities in which that katana would come in handy, depending on where you live and your hobbies. There are such things as enthusiasts, you know people who buy things, because they have an interest in them. Most enthusiasts actually learn how to use their collection.

  • I used to have one of these a few years back. It was a lot of fun hacking the shit out of trees and stuff. I even cut a snowboard it two with it.

  • So what happened to it?

  • It held it's edge remarkably well, I never cut into things like metal or rocks...I had it for about 6 months and sold it to a friend who wanted it really bad but didn't want to go internet. Just a quick sale...I basically lost interest. I later acquired the military classic knife in San Mai which is more functional, practical and beautiful. I would definitely recommend one to you.

  • you're 6 foot 8?? dude youre in the wrong hobby! go play basketball!!

  • Hey how sharp is yours? I have one too, but it doesn't feel sharp to the touch.

  • The warrior series swords japanese swords not fully sharpened. I've heard Cold Steel will sharpen it for free, however, if you ask them.

  • Yea well that's what happened with mine, I emailed them because mine wasn't sharp they said to send it in for sharpening. So i did that, but they said it will take over a month because they have a lot of sharpening requests.

  • Someone told me they bought one and it was sharp, so I don't know what's going on.

  • Sure. The placements like the round guard above the handle and right below the blade was a bit crooked, and the blade itself was placed at a crooked angle, and veered off a bit to the side. Additionally, the blade edge itself was not straight, and turned off to one side, rather than being uniform in the center of the blade. It's too bad because the edge was really sharp, and the placements were beautiful. If the sword was symmetrical, I would have definitely purchased it.

  • Hey there, nice vid. I just ordered this product, and I was wondering how the placements and blade are in terms of straightness. Reason I ask is because a while ago, I ordered an imperial series katana (cold steel) and the blade was crooked.

  • Everything looks in line, and the blade is straight. Can you describe the problem with the imperial series katana in any more detail?

  • Did you get the sword? Was everything straight?

  • Yessir I did in November, and it came very sharp and straight:) Thanks for your vid and comments, they motivated me to get it. I've built up quite a collection of swords since then, which I just recently completed. I have the paul chen musashi katana, gladius, and kami katana, as well as the cold steel hand-and-a-half sword. If I had a video camera I would show and review them on youtube. Thanks again:)

  • The 1796 Light cavalry by cold steel is the best engineered sword in the world.

  • the Light Cavalry Sabre? It's very good, my dad has it, along with many cold steel knives. The light cavalry sabre is very badass insofar as it's a really good offensive weapon- can chop through many things and very deeply. But I prefer the Cold Steel Napoleon Sabre (which my dad also has) which is balanced - it's a lot more wieldy than the 1796, so it's great offensively and defensively.

  • You're right about half of what you said. The 1796 has a hatchet point which lets you cut like nothing else on the planet. I can cut so well with it that I can face a mob and and feel comfortable. Furthermore, the fuller makes it light and easy to move. It's the perfect saber.

  • You should try the Napoleon- it's even more balanced, and as a result, your hand doesn't get tired as quickly as when you use the 1796, which is a bit unbalanced. Another thing that makes the Napoleon a good contender to the 1796 is the fact it's a bit longer, so you have more reach and speed (Napoleon) vs. more damage (1796). They're pretty equal, but I think the speed and the fact you don't get as quickly tired gives the Napoleon the edge in one on one combat - 1796 may be better for mobs

  • Yes, you've intrigued me. I may get one.
