  • The old circuit was the best !

  • Senna's Mclaren had a lack of 100 horespower. That's a lot on a circuit like the old Hockenheim

  • That williams renault is so quick! easily THE best F1 car ever designed in my opinion. and senna knows just how quick the car is, theres is no point in senna letting mansell straight through just because his cars faster, he took every chance to keep his position for as long as possible. two world class drivers on a great circuit, heavenly.

  • i like mansell a lot... i think he is one of the best ever had in F1, but this overtake was not just, becouse he loose the chicane and get out with much more power to overtake senna in the end of the next part of the circuit...

  • I was at this race with my father when I was 11 years old!!! good memories!!

  • Mansell missed the chicane and nothing was said, Prost missed the chicane a year later and was given a stop go for it, how can that be right????

  • my god mansell's car is so much quicker he can just lose 10 yards on senna then just put his foot down and drive straight past him as if he doesn't exist...this williams was one of the greatest cars ever designed...

  • i love the cars...but...today... :/

  • Just love the sound of that allmighty Renault.

  • Imagine KERS and DRS at old the Hockenheim?!

It would be like Nascar. No thanks...

    I loved the old Hockenheim...

  • Mansell´s car was too much better... thats all!!!

  • F1 is shite nowadays, all mickey mouse circuits. Thank God for "Eau Roughe"

  • @TrueGoth1 And don't forget Suzuka. Can't wait for the Grand Prix this weekend.

  • The kind of blocking that Senna did there would have been black flagged now...god I miss the old days and the incomparable Senna.

  • Ohhh, Ayrton cutting like Michael in Monza too .... but no cry or whine from the Schumacher-haters...

  • @samothsamothsamoth

schums haters are just like FIA of nowadays ,they're blinded and like to watch cars going round and around without any sensation or drving skills,Schum is the last f1 driver of the golden age.Berger said in our days Moves like schumi did in Hongary 2010 were normal moves.

shame on f1 and drivers and fia of nowadays!!!

  • @poussyledzep Indeed....Gerhard Berger was known for producing very wide mclarens, ferraris or benettons :)

  • he gained no adventage!!!!

hes overtaking him in the slipstream

  • They only finished 2nd besause of Senna's sheer brilliance as a driver, the 92 MP4/7 was severely handicapped by handling issues and Honda refusing to develope the engine knowing they were going to withdraw at the end of the year you colosal clitoris!

  • The renault engine was just massivly powerful! fastest car in a stright line

  • OLD Hockenheim fantastic circuit !!!

  • @Giova2022 snooze fest. straight, chicane, straight, another chiczne, straight, yawn yawn.

  • @Giova2022 absolutely agree. this circuit was amazing before these idiots not ruined it effectively and turned into another boring faceless Tilke's ugliness

  • the 92 mclaren was bad compared to the williams.

    the 93 was even worse.

  • The McLaren MP4/7 was a Cuban taxi compared to the Williams. Poor design, unreliable, and the Honda V12 was a slug. Even the Benetton was a better car. Making Senna drive that sorry excuse for a car was like telling Mozart to make music with a gong.

  • @derkommissar1917 Yeah, we ALL know that. But this moronic @flipsidedogchop knows better, he's soooooooooo omniscient :D

  • @derkommissar1917 The MP4/7 was rushed into action too soon. It's actually pretty surprising that McLaren created such a dud considering that the Williams-Renault package was better even in 1991 and you'd think McLaren would have been sharpening its knives in the off-season.

  • @derkommissar1917

Nonsense. Although not as technically advanced as the Williams FW14B (which is where the speed came from), the MP4/7 was STILL good enough for Berger to take two wins with it. Schumacher only won 1 race with the Benetton and Brundle won none. The 1992 Ferrari was a sorry excuse for a car. It was nowhere near competitive.

The Honda V12 was far from a slug. After all it won the 1991 championship and judging by the speed trap in late 1992 it was still the most powerful engine.

  • @McLarenMercedes I said the Benetton was better, not faster. The Benetton was actually reliable (unlike the 12 retirements in 28 starts for the MP4/7), which is why Schumi was able to finish third in the championship with it. Senna and Berger won five races in 1992 in spite of their crummy car, not because of it. The Honda V12 was so good (not) that when Mugen got control of the Honda F1 engine program after the season, they immediately went back to the V10.

  • @derkommissar1917 AMEN! Love it when someone knows what they are talking about!

  • @McLarenMercedes Citin Bergers 2 wins as evidence of the McLarens strength is disingenous - Bergers 2 wins were Canada and Australia - In Canada he inherited the win after Senna and Brundle ahead of him retired with mechanical failure - Brundle in fact almost won his only ever victory here (arguably he deserved it - he was faster than Schumacher that day) - thats how good the Benetton was! In Australia, again Berger inherited the win after Senna and Mansell crashed out WAAAAY ahead of him!

  • @McLarenMercedes Also - you imply Berger was a B-grader like Johnny Herbert or Barrichello - as if him winning means a car is sensational - in fact Berger was VERY VERY fast - he won 10 GP (more than all but a handful of drivers in history).

You would be more honest quoting Johnny Herberts 2 wins in 95 as evidence of the MASSIVE superiority of the Schui's Benetton over the Williams

  • @McLarenMercedes You are wrong, It was a terrible car! Berger only won both those races because Mansell, Patrese and Senna had DNF's in both, Berger was very lucky to win in Canada and Australia he had no competition from the Williams drivers and Senna his team leader.

  • @kouzouka terrible cars dont finish second in the constructors!!

  • @flipsidedogchop Chop! If you tally up all Mansell's, Patrese's and even Schumi's DNF's you get 13 the same as Senna and Berger combined, it was a piece of shit while the Williams was brilliant with Mansel only ever finishing 1st or 2nd the entire season

  • @kouzouka but they still finished 2nd you retard! how the fuck is that shit?

The Coloni-Subaru was shit. . The MP4/7 wasnt

  • What a horrid car that McLaren was... shame.

  • @thylegion whaaat?? You call 2nd in the constructors horrid?!!

  • Comment removed

  • @thylegion i asked you a question!

do you call 2nd in the constructors horrid?!

  • @flipsidedogchop you heard me, boy! YES!

  • @thylegion U didnt say YES! in your first comment so how could i hear you, boy?

5 wins.... 3 for Senna & 2 for Berger.... yes, what a totally shit car! fuck off!

  • @flipsidedogchop "Compare that to MP4/6, and you'll have your answer" - that WAS an answer, you cheapshit! And don't tell me to fuck off, moron - you better go and read something what Senna had to say about that car. Not my fault that Berger and Senna managed to won some races with that car. Geeez, how old are you, to be so nervous about somebody having different opinion than yours, 12? Go to your momma, and tell her to fuck off, fuckfaced cocktwat.

  • @thylegion well in your first comment you said MP4/4 ... Then said MP4/6.... Yea great answer!

hahahaha dont get so defensive or sensitive when im on the offensive

    oh and fuck off!

  • @flipsidedogchop That's why I deleted comment, geez. Lack of arguments, so you decided to go for a "picky" stuff, right? That's LOW, dude. Stupid fanboys. You're the Oxford grad.? Pffffff... more like lo-life faggot. Stupid motherfucker, having a problem with my different-than-his opinion, and now he says I AM defensive, wow... And by the way - "fuck off" was firstly used by you, so... enough said about your mother - she is whore, simply.

  • @thylegion fuck that was funny....look how offended you got hahahahaha

cmon faggot i need a good laugh.. get offended again, cmon...

  • @flipsidedogchop omfg, you're a laughable one, dude. Small penis owners aren't so cool afterall... Later. :)

  • @thylegion dont talk about my fucking knob you faggot!

  • @flipsidedogchop Now you're even more lulzy craphead :D Awww, did I hurt its little dick's feelings?

  • @thylegion Your STILL talking about cock?!!

Fuck your a faggot! Fuck off! Polish faggot, we should have let the Nazis kill you all during the war and rape your mom!

  • @flipsidedogchop That's the lowest comment I've ever read, geeeez, you're pathetic, dude o_O You should learn something about polish squadron 303, who actually help you, english fuckers, out during battle of britain. Forget it, you must be oxford drop out if you don't know BASICS about your own country history. Lame ass little dicked pussy-annoying McLaren-fanboy prick. Oh, and by the way, your mother is STILL dirty slut.

  • @flipsidedogchop Damn, 3 weeks of peace and quiet, and you had to come back... jeeeeez, oxford fags are annoying.

  • @flipsidedogchop I wonder why as smart person as you (LOL) won't reply with any sense to me saying "why don't you read what Senna had to say about that car", huh? I guess that would do the justice to me, and in the same time you would have to cry, because Senna also had different-than-yours opinion. DIE, motherfucker!

  • @flipsidedogchop 27 year old immature moron.

  • @flipsidedogchop Booooooy, that McLaren was horrid...

  • 0:25 you can hear Senna's Honda V12

  • God, how i miss Senna

  • that was the only way to overtake him.. corner cutting..

  • he cut the chicane, he got an advantage and carried alot more speed through the straight

  • Best time with those V10 engines!

  • still think that these cars are much better looking than present day machines and sound soooooo much better too. doesn`t progress suck sometimes?

  • @gowdridge

    Agree!

At least about the progress on sound and looks!

It's a shame because theres no lack of excitement in F1! Since the mid 00's seasons have exceeded many of the seasons in the 90'es and early 00's!

BUT... the cars today really look like poor drawings from a drunk 3 year old!

It all could be so great...ad the close championship battles that we have seen the last 5 years, with the looks AND sound as good as those in the early 90's...that would be niiice! :-)

  • @gowdridge I'm not sure there has been much progress Prost set a high speed record at Hockenheim in 1993 of just over 230mph in qualifying!

  • @ssssroryssss was talking about the progress from how the old cars looked and sounded, to present day machines, not how fast they could go..miss the sound of V10`s and V12`s,manual gear changes and the fact that they used to have grip. just reckon the racing isn`t as exciting as it used to be.

  • @gowdridge i totally agree, it seems that with progress, every golden age is followed systematically by an neutering period, a dulling down refinement of that golden age in accordance with unforeseen dangers, threats and peripheral developments. Hopefully in a few years we'll see more exciting cars than today's dead, lifeless ones

  • back in the day was like this:Cut the corner if you dare and tell us how it was if you live after that.

  • That's coz Williams at that time developed the system where the car automatically balances out through a corner

  • @tamkukushka yes he did ..... ;) lol

  • nowadays mansell would get a drive through penatly for cutting the chicane and gaining an adventage

  • @kurwajegopierdolona yup,he would. also senna would o been black flagged 4 tryin 2 push mansell off circuit !!! lol

  • @kurwajegopierdolona no he wouldnt hes overtaking a mclaren with a yellow helmet.

  • Comment removed

  • @kurwajegopierdolona Rules were even stricter back then so be quiet, Senna got disqualified from the 1989 Japanese race for using the cut through after the collision with Prost.

  • @kurwajegopierdolona i think he slipped

  • @kurwajegopierdolona he didnt actually gain any advantage in that particular move, he didnt overtake senna with that move, so no, he wouldn't get penalised

  • @kurwajegopierdolona Exactly. Sometimes I wonder how much time it will cost until Ecclestone invents the speed limit for F1.

  • @kurwajegopierdolona Mansell would probably get a drive through for cutting the chicane, and Senna would probably get a stop-go for weaving.

  • @kurwajegopierdolona That would be fine if that's why he passed Senna. It was actually the draft that got him by...

  • @kurwajegopierdolona he did not gain a position , therefore he did nothing wrong . obvious mistake not cheating .

  • @kurwajegopierdolona in fact, nigel mansell = lewis hamilton...

  • @cb20051981

in fact hamilton is a piece of shit near mansell, hamilton couldnt drive those cars.

  • @poussyledzep I don't think so... he has driven those cars...

  • @poussyledzep hamilton would probably spin out because of the sheer power compared to the f1 cars of today

  • @FPSyorkshire

Power is actually about the same as now! Most engines of 92-93 had 700-750 BHP! The engines today is about 750 BHP!

It's not the power levels that are wrong, it's the look, sound, and stupid things such as KERS!

And BTW: Hamilton won the GP2 with 600 bhp with VERY narrow rear tires (not super wide slicks like these...which are cooler)... but if you can control them you can control most cars!

  • @Michaelingolfhansen and now look whats happened to hamilton

  • @kurwajegopierdolona

nowadays f1 is shit,Mansell wouldn''t accept to drive under shit rules,Schumi accepts but he's suffering now cause he couldn't drive aggressively as he used to do in f1 last golden years.

  • Senna was a dirty unfair driver, moving left and right

  • he got sideways and cut the corner but is not bad

  • Formula boring is now ruined by the stupid rules.

  • No advantage for Mansell? For sure there was an advantage ;) Just think there wouldnt have been tarmac but gravel; he would have lost a few more seconds ;)

No discussion, mansell was faster and would have past senna without cutting chicanes too ;)

Its the same with Hamilton few years ago. Would there have been gravel or a wall, he wouldnt had past kimi.

And @bmwnasher: Todays rules a crap.

  • tht was a great race and senna waved him past as i have the seasson on vidieo and it shws u senna wavein him past as mansell had the faster car

  • I don't think Mansell cut the chicane out of choice; the car fishtails under braking for Ostkurve, thus ending up too deep into the chicane to be able to make the second apex. Great era for F1 though. Senna & Mansell did have their run ins, but you could tell they had massive respect for each other.

  • Comment removed

  • No advantage from cutting the chicane at all, he was already all over the back of the McLaren. I loved this time, so many great names, great looking cars, innovation driven by the teams not the FIA and the racing was ok too.

Also is it me or does it just look so much more punishing for the drivers, old f1 races always look like they took place in baking heat!

  • there was no advantage when mansell cut the corner..no drive through for that..even todays rules.get your facts right boys

  • yeah but when you passed Senna you knew you were the real deal, he was so hard to pass

  • The Williams-Renault was light years better than the McLaren-Honda in 1992. If you watch the race, Senna actually waves Nigel past.

  • @Audioquest56

Where does he wave mansell past?

  • @Audioquest56 Certainly a Senna's fanboy here. Get a life.

  • @Abujamra2 WTF are you talking about noob? I was a huge Williams-Renault Patrese fan at the time. If you watch the entire race (which I have on video), Senna gives Nigel the wave through for a pass.

    So, STFU.

  • @Audioquest56 Yes, it was purely Senna's talent that he was even close in any of the races in '92. He quite rightly waved Mansell through as there was no way he way going to hold him off for very long and instead preserved his tires as best he could for a battle with Patrese for second.

  • @tor378a Yes, I agree with you. Nigel was weaving back and forth like a maniac and Senna realized there was no way he was going to keep the Williams behind him. Of course, Senna did manage to hold off Patrese and force him into a spin on the corner to stadium section, thus finishing second.

  • @Audioquest56 i rember it well watching it live

  • AWESOME!

Of course if that had happened now Mansell would have been given a 25 second penalty for gaining an unfair advantage by drivong off the track, like Hammy on Raikonnen at Spa 08. 92 was AWESOME!

  • very good overtake mansell.

  • Great vid. I love onboad footage of overtakes! Ahh the old Hockenheim circuit, sadly now gone and turned into a go kart circuit!!!

  • LOL...Yeah Great footage, too bad Nigel missed the chicane completely probably out of frustration. LOL Senna always did thet at Nigel. I can't imagine that pass counting?

  • yeah Nigel had such a run on him because he cut the chicane :s
