whats wrong with chipping a 911 turbo plenty of people do it to gain more BHP and its way cheaper to buy a turbo than a GT2 maybe not as quick but so what you save a hell of alot and its more comfortable to drive (easier to live with) and still very quick, the ferrari 430 scuderia is an awsome car but yet again it cost's £172,000 compared to the GT2 which costs £131,000 (i no what i would have) the only other car that competes with the porsche GT2 is the new lamborghini gallardo lp560.

The problem is that the whole car is engineered and designed around the engine and its output. Turning the HP up could be disastrous, especially in a less forgiving Porsche.

Porsches should be left un-touched, unless you plan on modifying suspension, tires, steering, etc.

These arguements on what the best make is crazy - all have their traits that make them unique - I love Ferrari - Maserati - Lamborghini - and Porsche - (Corvette as well) - Porsche is the most efficient and reliable - I have a 1990 Carrera with 187,000 miles no problems at all - never taken apart - and get mid to high 20's on long trips.....while still giving fits to Mustangs - Corvettes etc.

Well fit and finished as the GT2, if not even better? Sorry, I don't think so. I don't know where you get your information from, but you have two choices of seats in the GT2, both full leather, the steering wheel is alcantera, so is the center console. The dashboard is also covered in leather. You can opt for the switch panel to be carbon fiber as well, including other interior bits. The has less plastic than the ZR-1, I can guarantee it. The engine in the GT2 is handbuilt too.

The ZR-1 may put out more power, but even with the spaceframe, it's still a lot heavier than the GT2 is. The GT2 doesn't have full interior, it's a purpose built road legal track car. Brake disc size is irrelevent, if the brakes are engineered to stop that specific car quickly and safely, who cares if the ZR-1 has larger brakes. Again, the ZR-1 has more mass, so it makes sense.

I will stand behind my argument that the GT2, pound for pound has better fit and finish, quality, safety and engineering. For starters, the current generation Corvettes are ranked as the worst sportscars on the market for reliability and quality. The 911 actually ties with Lexus in reliability and quality. You get what you pay for applies. Even if the ZR-1 is faster, it doesn't necessarily make it better. Both cars can't be driven at their fullest potential in most places as it is.

marc, first off, you're an idiot. The GT2 is one of the world's best STOCK road legal track cars. The SI doesn't come anywhere close to this, put one on a road course against a GT2..that SI would be toast. As far as handling like a Mack truck, absolutely not. While they're difficult to drive on a road course, once you get the hang of them, the handling is incredible. I'd rather listen to "a dog trying to bark while taking a crap" than a giant fart or a can of pissed off bees.

Both cars, from the looks of it, seem fantastic. If you looked at what the OP said in a previous response to your comment, the Porsches are in fact quicker on corners that the Corvettes in the LM series. That being said, those cars actually have rear end downforce. The ZR1 doesn't. Straight line speed seems to once again be what Chevrolet. Good luck getting traction.

I disagree. The ZR1 will be a monster on the straights, but that's about it. Consider that the 0-60 time of the ZR1 is supposedly around 3.2 seconds. There are 911 Turbos now that are doing 0-60 in that time with a manumatic. There will be many cars faster in the curves, including the GT2. The GT2 is lighter for one. The ZR1 was to compete with the GT2 and the 599 GTB. Corvettes don't impress me any, I don't care how fast they may be or how much power they may have.

If you watch the ALMS, 24 Hours at Lemans, you will see that the 911s are faster in the curves and the C6Rs are faster in the straights.

What do I think about what? The Superleggera? I think they didn't really do much to it from the standard Gallardo, and it's not worth the extra money. ;) Just my opinion though.

Do you often see F1 ride on a street? Try this kind of gearbox, you'll see what is the problem: on FERRARI and BMW: it is too brutal on everyday ride, even on the softer set, on VW, with the DSG, it is perfect but it brakes after 35000kms, the other ones are too slow or semi automatic.Porsche one is good only with the Turbo, it helps balance the big torque and AWD.
