Actually, Randi has tested Geller. At a demonstration for Time magazine, Randi posed as a reporter and tested Geller (Geller failed). Randi has also studied video tapes in which Geller exposes what he's doing (albeit only to the trained eye).

There is a lot of fake stuff in the world. It's very useful to know how to tell the difference. It takes a lot of practice to get good at it. Study the methods of skeptics and scientists to get good at it.
If Geller could really bend things with his thoughts, he could easily prove it. But he won't demonstrate it under the conditions necessary to know if it's fake or real. Dismissing this kind of thing doesn't hold back advancement, it speeds it, by preventing us from wasting time on fake stuff.
