Vietnam revisited, isn't it? Politicians & often generals never learn the lessons of the last war. If a war is determined to be necessary then it must be engaged with total impunity. That doesn't mean targeting civilians or innocents, but it does mean hitting your enemy with everything you have until he is dead or totally incapacitated, until he will not want to fight anymore. We need to stop being nice, while still being compassionate.
my observation is that the Brits are trained to seek out & engage in close quarters better than Americans are today. Our boys seem to wanna fire at long range too much & this is generally ineffective. We are also too dependent on air strikes & artillery. We need much better training. As a Southerner I really wish y'alls name for us wasn't 'yanks'. thanks to all the Allies for everything
I'm from Alabama! Seriously, though, all things being equal, I'd rather have the assets, but the downside is they can be relied on too much. It can make a good fighter less aggressive & tactically blunted. Y'all are doing a fine job.
@panthercreek60 In Helmand we were so undermanned we had to basically bait the enemy to engage us. That is why we would send patrols into areas we knew hey were hiding - and we always have whats called a Fire Support Group sat nearby high ground to bring down the pain on anyone who dared to engage us.
The problem was, because we was undermanned we could never afford to hold the ground we won. So we had to retake the same ground over and over again.
@panthercreek60 Also, our politicians are having a negative effect on our tactics. Scared of losing support they force commanders to be extremely over protective. Now when contacted we often withdraw before completing the mission assigned to us, whether that be holding a shura, recceing a well location, conducting a framework patrol. Generally, on contact, I saw that mission disappear and the main effort became extracting out: this applied no matter what the severity of the fire or casualties.
@panthercreek60 You see in Afghan you cannot let the locals think that the Taliban can win. contrast this with USMC style. Their tactics were simple. If they were contacted, no matter whether they had just completed the mission and were already extracting out of a village, they stopped; formed a baseline; and fought through the positions whether they had vast numbers of support assets or not. They then went back into the village they had just visted and said: Look. We won.
@panthercreek60 Basically what I am saying is this. We are being expected to fight a war with one hand tied behind our back. We keep getting told we are the world's best. I think we need to take a long hard look at ourselves and our commanders need to tell our politicians "enough is enough". Anyways, just pisses me off rant over!
@manchesterfellow Our boys, English, Brit, Australian, Canadian, American, need to be given a free hand in prosicuting this war. There is no substitute for victory. Good luck in the'stan, come home safely. and if you ever find yourself in God's Country (Alabama) come see me in the wilds of the Tallapoosa River
All of this bitchin', pissin' and moanin' about WHO'S better than WHAT. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
Yeah, it was the same in MY-day, but regardless if you were a Brit, Aussie, or a Yank---when the shit hit the fan, we ALL came out DIRTY, if not worse.
And then once the danger subsided---we all went back to insulting each other again!
Really every time I watch a video of the British army in afghan or anywhere, even just a British army vid, americans comment and talk about their own military....WHY???? Wy don't they just go and talk about them on their own videos, why ours??? Also if they are constantly talking about talking about the US army all the time then why are they watching British army bristle anyway????
@EllisFitz1995 that's funny, because i noticed that the brits do the same thing, except they add retarded comments like "watch out for that friendly fire yanks!" ......just sayin'
Ok can I just say, this is a British army video of the British army, I haven't got a clue why people are bribing up the US army into this. If your American and you brought up the US army in a British army video then why are you watching this video anyway???
anyone who says that there is an ACR in the video is a dumbass wat they were seeing is an enfield which is the main assult rifle of the british the ACr isnt even in service yet exept for the 1st battalion 75 ranger regt. which are given every new weapon to see how it holds up in battle they are also the only ones that are currently using the scar-h and scar-L assult rifles
@shooter2443 L85. please use its proper designation. and by the way ur wrong, SOCOM and navy SEALS currently use the SCAR-H in special operations and have been doing so for years
@Derail07 actually i do, it will replace the normal m14, its lightweight, more manuverable, it can use the enemys ammo, you can easily place a scope on it, you can easily fix it in the field.
@FreshPotatoMafia I think you mean it will replace the M4, not the M14. Also, the ACR takes the standard 5.56 NATO round. It cant just "use the enemy's ammo", it's upper receiver can be changed to accommodate different types of rounds, but a soldier in the field isn't going to be carrying around different upper receivers. Thanks for playing though.
@palestineoliver becuase there officers eat them alive if they act un-professional on camera, US marine officers do that, army (the main people in iraq), does not unless there rangers or elite troops such as them
I understand they are used for thoroughfare purposes; but limiting foot traffic to avoid being ambushed seems like an easy conclusion. I'd hate to see an a Coalition soldier; or a civilian for that matter die because from an ambush because they didn't remove such positions. Removing the wall would allow movement and decrease enemy cover; moreover it would the men to remove the threat.
As a solder; what is your opinion of the ROE in practice?
@ForImperium . Typically self defence, but there are variables.(Positive/negation command.).In Iraq/Afganistan we are applicable to US ROE.(MCRP 307B).In saying that i agree with the remove wall strategy.Problem being some compound/villages have 1-3km of wall.lol
I guess removing infrastructures that have existed perhaps for centuries would reduce their own self independence in defense and would upset the locals.
I don't know why the Taliban continue fighting to be honest. If they were smart; they all join the ANA; they're seeking recruits. Get US paid training; weapons etc; wait for US withdrawal and then up rise with said weapons and training in the next half decade.
Btw; thanks for your service; keep up the good fight!
@ForImperium Good chatting with you.Just got back from Afganistan (B/province) in January.Good to be home with my kids. All the best to you, thanks for your support.,not much of that where i come from.;-).......................
@TheNotpc1 dude, no. the national guard just are lenient, compare them to marine officers or army, or especially elite troops(such as rangers or airborn) and you got WAY more discipline than brits, i mean seriously dude, the marine WOMEN corps scream at and hit recruits for smiling on camera. Male part of the corps does even worse. not to say army isnt untrianed, it is, its just its not as restrictive as the other forces. thats l
@Koldatt okay and sorry i was being rude, i have multiple british friends in the service and they are tough reliable soldiers, but as with every nationality, sometimes people just get riled up, take for example the guy who commented on me a month after you, hes just being a total bastard. i have maximum respect for the british armed forces and im sorry if i caused any offense.

@2oTMPo7 actually, no., your talking about reserve divisions. im talking about professional soldiers. i think i know discipline when i see it. and by the way, u do know that the combat helmet was put into use because a british soldier was dancing around in camp with sauce pan on his head and when he was shot at by a sniper it saved his life right? u consider that discipline? and dude, stop watching movies, most US soldiers are cityboys from the north and midwest.
@2oTMPo7 plus, ur calling a CONSERVATIVE a cunt, u liberals are the ones fighting for gay rights. we are the ones opposing it. and by the way, british marines are SPECIAL FORCES. US Marines are simply naval infantry. thats like comparing rangers to a Army reservist.
@2oTMPo7 also, how can u call an american a cunt when ur liberal pussies in government require you to have a liscense for a BOLT ACTION RIFLE. how gay can you get? i mean seriously, ur government is a bunch of powerhungry bastards wanting to steal their countries right to defend themselves from the common man instead of trying to crack down on the majority of guns used in crime which were obtained ILLEGALLY and no gun laws could have done anything to stop it
