In my humble basso cantabile opinion it's unfair to compare Netrebko and Damrau-such different voices and styles... but I do still more than prefer Damrau :)

As a matter of fact D.Damrau has a contract with Virgin classics since 2007(i think) and she has already produced her third cd. And there is actually a dvd of her last queen of the night at the MET...so she is not wholly unnoticed!!!! But of course it's not enough yet ;-)

I have to admit I know Diana from a very short time on, but she has become one of my favourites. She is as beautiful as her voice.

just think that Nebtrenko,have so much support...from cleaner to opera stages,and the responsible is Gergiev...anyway,Diana is my favourite too...extremely equal voice to all the registers,so actress....just incredible!!!!!

I mean, seriously, what do people see in Netrebko?

I dont' understand why Netrebko is getting a DVD over Damrau AND Dessay.

I see no Damrau or Dessay recordings these days, and Netrebko is having one every week.

I gotta admit I now own Netrebko's Manon, Traviata, Puritani, Figaro, and 3 other concerts.

I can't say I've actually enjoyed a single one of them.

WHY DOES NETREBKO ALWAYS GET DVDS????

These other good people are not getting any media recognition even though they're so much better

It could be something as simple as a contract issue with Dessay's and Damrau's record companies. Dessay has a DVD of her singing the French Version, if she were to make another DVD with another company of what is essentially the same work it'd probably be a breach of contract. As for Damrau her record company may not have been keen on the idea, we don't know. For all we know Netrebko's contractors could've been easier to deal with. In either case, it's the business, not the singers sadly.

I saw this production THREE TIMES...I kept going back because I didnt believe how good it was. the entire cast was really stellar. I have tickets for two performances of ANNA....but I am pretty sure I will prefer Diana!! These clips do not compare to live!!! Its even better folks!

so how do they compare for you? i saw both singers this season.. id have to say..though anna sucked in the part coz she seemed unprepared...she did stick to the romantic style and the legato of the piece without too many veristic breaks in the vocal line (which i think dessay and damrau are a bit guilty of, esp. Dessay)

but i still prefer Damrau

Imho, Lucia should be a role open to a veristic twist, as it screams for the acting, but even if you prefer a more belcantist interpretation, Netrebko's Lucia had so many lacks one can't really forgive her just because of that, wouldn't you agree?

Wow!!! Much better than the dress rehearsal clip that was posted and received negative reviews. I'm not going to compare to Dessay - it's not worth it! They are both wonderful in their own ways :)

omg her "gl'incensi" is soooo ethereal! the glass harmonica and her voice on that phrase created such a ghostly effect..

i can't believe Gelb is recording Netrebko on this role and not damrau..as well as mounting a production of of Bolena for Netrebko and not Damrau!!

Damrau is a dramatico coloratura and Netrebko is a lyric... uhhh... ok

Darn Gelb; Netrebko seriously her voice wouldn't sound as beautiful... even if she is ostensibly "prettier" :[

I saw her on the debut. It was absolutely fantastic and I was really disappointed to hear that they are recording Netrebko not Damrau. Personally I think Damrau is prettier than Netrebko because she has what you call "Ausstrahlung" in german. She just has an incredible personality. Im a big fan of her singing...

I saw the debut and it was fantastic. I would go again if I could. I am really disappointed that Gelb chose Netrebko for the Recording. Personally I think Damrau is better for Lucia (lighter voice) and I think she is prettier than Netrebko because of her "Ausstrahlung" (there is no english word for this) and her voice is just indescribable. Brava!
