Thus is supposed to be a techniqu for cutting layers into curly hair? I don't want to insult you @ all, but the idea is NOT to cut the curls away and from what I can see, you are doing a basic long layer cut. There is a technique for cutting curly hair for those who do not wish to loose that curl-ie; slide, notch cutting, but never just straight across the guide. You know how to cut-can't deny that, but this is not a cut for curly hair.
no offense but this lady is very difficult to watch, she's actually making me anxious just watching her. I understand that she's in front of the camera and wants to show everyone how great she is, but come on! She's scary to watch!
Try explaining your cuts in technical terms. ( elevation, overdirection, finger angle, scissor angle, traveling guid lines or stationary guidelines. ) I think these terms are going to help in other professionals being able to follow along. sincerely P~
This is EXACTLY how to cut layers into curly hair. When the hair is down, you want the layers to lay at a 45 degree angle away from the head like this: //()\\ You never want layers cut at 45 degrees into the head because then the curls will pile on top of itself like this: \\()// . Your hair shape will end up looking like a diamond shape. AND you have to cut curly hair wet, if it's dry you will split the ends. Finally DON'T ever razor cut or straight blade cut curly hair unless you want frizz
@s1h1a1r1o1n1 you're right about the razor but wrong about the dry cutting. You can absolutely cut curly hair dry! It's actually recommended to cut a persons hair dry and already curly if they intend to style it curly. This way you see how the hair lays naturally. This ensures a proper cut so you don't give the girl a crazy cut with WAY too much weight in the ends.
jasmo23: My hair is thick and coarse. I've tried cutting it dry and it was a disaster! My ends split really badly. I suppose if it were more thin, then the dry cut would work. You're right, though, avoiding the weight on the bottom is key! =)
Many places use and teach different tecniques for cutting hair but i can't see how the description to cut hair straight up is accurate when the tutor is actually overdirecting the hair before making her cut.
When I was younger, I always had my hair wet when it was cut. But I think it's becoming more common to have hair dry or mostly dry due to studies showing that hair is at its weakest point when wet, so they cut it dry to avoid damage.
Personally, I prefer to have my hair at least a little damp. I have curly hair, and it makes it easier for the stylist (I think) to cut evenly.
hair cutters will cut hair wet or dry acording to how they learned to do it. there is no right or wrong way to, each individual hair stylist will do it the way they find it easiest, and the way they have done it for years since they would that way be able to handle and manage cutting it better.
i cut my curly hair when its dry. i really have no problem doing it. im about to try the layered look. my hairs long and curly and its been this way for almost 3 years. time for something new.
it was great , thank you so much , but I wish you set number for them then we could find the next video easily , and I could not find how you open then and how it will look like at end
it was great , thank you so much , but I wish you set number for them then we could find the next video easily , and I could not find how you open then and how it will look like at end.
no they shouldnt be cut DRY. they can be cut either way. but especially with curly hair it is a lot easier to cut any hair wet, especially CURLY HAIR. and it will make the cutting more accurate with it wet. I know this because i am a hairstylist. but yh, u can cut curly hair dry. u can cut any hair dry, it is just a lot better and easier if u cut it wet. x
I disagree completely about cutting hair dry. When the hair is dry the scissors tend to push the hair, therefore your cuts are not as accurate. The only time I ever cut hair dry, is when someone has very split ends. When the hair is dry is when you can see the split ends, then after getting all the split ends, I wet the hair and make sure all my cuts are even. I have been doing all kinds of different hair types for 18 years.
tary...ur wrong...i have curly hair and i got it cut short in layers while wet AND it looks really nice...doesnt ruin anything...ur hair is probably just ugly.
Honestly, it is EXTREMELY difficult to cut curly hair dry. You are suppose to cut it wet and hold it with little tension. If you were to cut it dry and that person has super curly hair, it would not be even and would not look right if they were to straighten their hair. Congratulations, you're another person who thinks they know something about cutting hair and doesn't. Just because what you're saying sounds good, doesn't mean it is.
Not necessarily. It depends on your hair. I only cut my hair when I straighten it (my hair is naturally curly) because there's a certain way I want my hair to look when it's straight. I really don't care how my hair looks when it's curly.
I agree with omgaw. I too have curly hair. And I like my hair to look even and pretty while straight. So cutting my hair while straight and dry is the way to go for me. I just use my curling iron to go over any uneven locks if I decide to go natural;D.
haaaaay...too tired to watch your video. very short and cannot find exactly step by step. anyway thank you!

if the hair has a lot of different textures throughout, you can't tell when wet. therefore it will look funny unless you cut it dry!

The scissors wont push the hair if you cut each individual curl. There's a technique called deva cutting that centers around cutting curly hair dry.
