Try the Schneider Weiße again. It's a fantastic beer. You must have gotten an old bottle. But everyone has their preferences. Try Hopfen Weiße. You guys should like that one.
Justo for an opinion, i've tried german bier in Argentina and it was sh*t!, you cannot try the beer really far from its origin without being wasted, unless is a sterilized version of watered beer like Heineken, American Budweiser or Corona (and i am Mexican), so yeah i like Paulaner but the best weizen for me here in Nuremberg is the Schneider Weisse... and the Paulaner beer at the Oktoberfest, the best bier in all my life!.. Prost!
no if youre tasting same types of beer... thats how its done... you can not do it with a porter and then a bock but you can do it with two porters or two bocks
I (Andrew, the guy on the right) do think this tasting may have been skewed, as the Schneider Weisse did not taste right, and probably was just not fresh. In other times I've tried it since this tasting, it was better. I still prefer the Paulaner, but the Schneider is much much better than we gave it credit for in this tasting.
good you had one of the best wheatbeers in this episode (schneider weisse) but you judged it totally wrong. :) i think it's because you are not used to the strong taste. in bavaria it's one of the most popular beer-sort.
you should try "unertl" if you ever have the chance to. it's like THE inside tip from bavarian beer fanciers.
Man, man, man.... poor world! Two wannabes judging German beers... Other than your ridiculous american home brewing crap you really have no idea, don't you?
Bravo armchair elitist! Let me watch your superior beer videos. Oh wait you haven't uploaded any! Does insulting other peoples work make you feel better about your life? Sad really... Don't like it? Don't watch. I could care less.
hey man i believe that I know a little more about beer than you... and these guys are good, i BET my ass that you cant make a review as neutral as this, but well keep insulting... and if by any case youre german, that doesnt mean that you know more than people of other countries.. i happen to have some ignorant german friends when it comes to beer
You know the Bavarian "Reinheitsgebot"? So how come, it tastes like banana? :-) I`m from Bavaria and my fav. are Schneider Weisse and Gutmann. You two HAVE TO try Gutmann beer, it`s the best!!! Especially Gutmann Dunkel!!!
Btw: Great idea trying all those beers, since everybody`s got his favorite!
I don't believe any Hefeweizen can be according to the Reinheitsgebot. To be brewed accordingly, it must ONLY have water, hops, yeast, and barley malt. Correct me if I'm wrong, but with wheat in it, it can't qualify, right?????
Ummm, bud, have you read what the reinheigsgebot states??????? If you did, you wouldn't say this, read it, it states in simple terms what a real beer has in it, NO WHEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They can say what they want on the bottle, it's not actually a law.
... the reinheigsgebot was replaced on 1987 by the provisional german beer law wich alouds wheat malt and cane sugar, the german beers put that they are into the reinheitsgebot as a purely marketing tool.
I (Ryan the guy on the left) is not as knowledgeable as Andrew (the guy on the right) about hefes. But it is commonly accepted that the Hefe yeast imparts banana, clove, and phenolic flavors to this beer. We are not implying that banana was added to the beers. Chrism980 is right about hefes not being subject to the Reinheitsgebot. There are lots of American Hefes but in my experience none are as good as the German ones.
Yup, we definitely agree that the yeast in the bottom of the bottle is a necessary aspect in these beers. When we did the tasting we poured each beer into a larger glass and decanted to get as much of the yeast as possible, and then poured that into our small tasters.
Not yet, but we bot plan on getting both the BJCP and the Cicerone certifications as soon as we have a chance to. Neither has come to our area(s) yet since we've turned 21, so the opportunity hasn't arisen.
Really really tough question. I've drank some of the best beers in this country. 3 Floyds Dark Lord, Bell's Hopslam and 2 hearted, all Russian River's sours, and pretty much anything from Anderson Valley to Tyranena brewing. Picking just one is impossible, but most recently the biggest surprise I've had is Saint Arnold's Lawnmower beer out of Texas. Far and away the best Kolsch I've had and a fantastic summer beer.
I live about an hour North of the Stone Breweries in Escondito, and when you tour their walk-in cooler guess what beer you see ALSO in the racks?? PAULANER...
I'm not on board with Stone when it comes to shovelling in the hops with a bulldozer, but I had some GREAT beers that day...
König Ludwig Weissbier and Schneider Weisse are both really great beers

FAIL.
G. Schneider und Sohn is probably my favorite brewery and Schneider Weise is amazing.
Edel-Weis and Hopfen weis also great beers.
They have a really nice corriander and light autumn spice to them and yet they they remain crisp. I can drink tons of that stuff. Addictive.

I prefer König Ludwig much more than Paulaner.
BTW, after having a sip of one beer, it completely changes the taste of another beer.

Give it a try with the Andechs Weißbier, the lesser known little brother of the Andechs Doppelbock. Quite good!
