CPU compute power costs 14 X the price of GPU compute power and most of the intensive stuff people are doing is being done with GPU's. I guess it's because everybody doing that uses Nvidia cards and Xbox uses AMD.
The next gen software for kinect is written in CUDA and as is kinectfusion will not even work with AMD GPU's.

Doesn't surprise me... because the 360 using a old radeon 1800 and it still gets the job done. Consoles are not legit PC's ... they don't have to worry about a million processes like a PC that will get held back because of em. Consoles only worry about games... plus the CPU plays a bigger role to with just straight up gaming. 6670 is big step up from a 1800. Still however they could've atleast went with the 6770. Now I'm eager to see what the PS4 will have under the Hood.
if they was smart, they'd put in the next gen NVidia chips, either 600-700 seriese, whatever they decided to number it. The GK104 the replacement for the 560 has 1536 CUDA cores. They may change it's name from the 660 as it beats the 7950.
The replacement for the 580 is said to have 2304 CUDA Cores and Nvidia may hold off launch, calling it the 780. If true a 660ti is all they need to beat AMD.
GTX 760* And I would say that a 770 would be, honestly. GTX 760 will most likely match the HD 7850 or 7870. The GK104 is mainly the 770 model. The 600 series is mobile only. According to NVidia they have no intentions of calling the next desktop series 6XX.

You misread. I didn't say the 770 would be the replacement. I said the 770 would be the one that is similar to a 7870. The replacement for the 580 is the 780.

You're right about how the apparent difference in graphics from generation to generation has been getting less and less significant. Even a game like RE4 still looks pretty damn good. Either way I'm looking forward to the Wii U and the 3rd party support it's supposed to get. Even if the 720 and PS3 "blow it out of the water" graphics-wise, it won't make a difference to me. I don't think they will be able to achieve the visual difference that existed between the Wii and it's competitors again.
If the 720 does come out in late 2013,they still have time to use a different chip though.Which sounds pretty good...if you don't mind waiting another year

I will still be playing on my Xbox 360 even after the next gen systems come out simply because I am gonna wait until Some really good "killer apps" come out for it that I just gotta play I rarely buy systems at launch. I didnt go "next gen" until 2007. until then I was still gaming on my PS2 lol. but FEAR, Oblivion, and Gears of War 1 were out on the 360 and I just had to play those games. and with Halo 3 Bioshock, and Mass Effect coming I figured now was the time to upgrade.

A 6670 wont be able to handle full direct x 11 style graphics, even with optimisations. I have an ATi 6850 and that card can just about play all current games on 1920x1080 with high settings (albeit with low AA).
Clock speeds mean fuck all as clock for clock newer cards are faster due to optimisations and the increase in shaders and bandwidth.
Even the older 5850 is still a better card than the budget 6670.
this is bad for Playstation gamers as well. developers can only make games that will work on both xbox and ps4. if the xbox is weak then the games will be as well. so hopefully this is false.

I don't see what would've been wrong with the 6850. It's a affordable really good high end card that is quite capable of higher end graphics. The 4890 architecture would've been a cheaper alternate, and still would be valid.

I actually don't care too much about graphics, despite being a PC gamer, for the next-gen. Instead, (cause I guess this needs better cpus) I'd like to see AI that is a lot better than the cockroach intelligence they have now. Also, I suppose having more vram would be good as well as faster storage devices (and that means being able to buy an ssd if wanted) to have bigger environments (100 players vs 100 players) with more stuff going and and the graphics not popping in slowly like in GTA IV.

There are people working on this, but the hardware on both sides would need to be as close to zero latency as they can get.
Also the way things are done needs to change. The old big iron thinking will not work. It's the asymmetrical MPSOC crowd that gets you there. But the investors only get big iron thinking(IBM, Intel, SUN, etc).
i am absolute sure that are just cheap triks, new xbox will be very powerful .. Worst case scenario is that it wil have hexa core cpu and dual 6670 running in crossfire, but even in that case it will be enough powerful with proper game optimisation to output good graphics ..

So the replacement for the 560ti would be a 780 and that still leaves 2 higher chips, the replacements for the 570 and 580. Reports are that the chip for the Nvidia card that was to compete with the 7870 is beating the 7970.
Get what I'm saying? Nvidia needs to rethink things like what they call it and thus charge. It's also a smaller chip then AMD.
The GK104, the replacement for the 460/560(GF104 GF114) is reported as performing like an 860/960 level chip. As in it would be a good match for a 9870, not a 7870.

You're right about how the apparent difference in graphics from generation to generation has been getting less and less significant. Even a game like RE4 still looks pretty damn good. Either way I'm looking forward to the Wii U and the 3rd party support it's supposed to get. Even if the 720 and PS3 "blow it out of the water" graphics-wise, it won't make a difference to me. I don't think they will be able to achieve the visual difference that existed between the Wii and it's competitors again.

I will still be playing on my Xbox 360 even after the next gen systems come out simply because I am gonna wait until Some really good "killer apps" come out for it that I just gotta play I rarely buy systems at launch. I didnt go "next gen" until 2007. until then I was still gaming on my PS2 lol. but FEAR, Oblivion, and Gears of War 1 were out on the 360 and I just had to play those games. and with Halo 3 Bioshock, and Mass Effect coming I figured now was the time to upgrade.

A 6670 wont be able to handle full direct x 11 style graphics, even with optimisations. I have an ATi 6850 and that card can just about play all current games on 1920x1080 with high settings (albeit with low AA).
Clock speeds mean fuck all as clock for clock newer cards are faster due to optimisations and the increase in shaders and bandwidth.
Even the older 5850 is still a better card than the budget 6670.

I think all these boosts in technology are going to start to slow for many reasons anyway, Price is one, most people arnt going to buy something they can't afford afterall, Two is alot of companies like Microsoft taking more interest in Tablets then PC. With the way things are going anyway, I think we will see another console crash. Developers and companies are getting greedier then they have ever been. I actually don't care too much about graphics, despite being a PC gamer, for the next-gen. Instead, (cause I guess this needs better cpus) I'd like to see AI that is a lot better than the cockroach intelligence they have now. Also, I suppose having more vram would be good as well as faster storage devices (and that means being able to buy an ssd if wanted) to have bigger environments (100 players vs 100 players) with more stuff going and and the graphics not popping in slowly like in GTA IV.

I do agree that that is where the trend will go and common-users will find it very accessible but for the PC gamer, having the choice of hardware is important. That's one thing that separates them from consoles. If cloud computing overtakes everything then business will really likely suffer as users have to rely on their cloud provider making competition more stale and they can do whatever they want more or less depending-

There are people working on this, but the hardware on both sides would need to be as close to zero latency as they can get.
Also the way things are done needs to change. The old big iron thinking will not work. It's the asymmetrical MPSOC crowd that gets you there. But the investors only get big iron thinking(IBM, Intel, SUN, etc).
Don't expect it soon.

Actually the 6670 is around 2x faster than the xbox 360's gpu but still... fucking shit dude we had a gpu with that power back in 2006(8800 gtx). When the xbox 360 released we had one of the higher end gpu out the( not the best but up their). My guess is that micrsoft is going the wii's path (surprisingly) and giving low price but good software for it. If you ask me i know a lot of xbox fan's are going to be pissed.
