@UFO the two-head experiment was not in the name of science. The two dogs were scheduled for organ transplant but the puppy was injured prior to the surgery. Rather than " waste a sterile surgical field" he decided to just graft the puppies upper torso onto the larger dog, as a scientific joke to his colleagues. The head lived a few days, the larger dog a few days longer, but they both died of tissue rejection. Considering it a success anyway, and wanting to continue to wow the soviet scientist

it's funny but some of the critics probably know someone (family/friend) who had a heart of lung transplant - that saved their life. Also these sorts of transplants have benefited veterinary care as well. Pet owners with a lot of money have saved the lives of their dogs and cats with this technology.

As an animation/graphics student my opinion is this video cannot be a fake, the quality is too bad. It's why when using photoshop you need as good an image as you can get, if it's distorted you'll see where the image had been altered as you cannot replicate the characteristics of the recording equipment.

Also, these surgeries, as inhumane as they were, built techniques and discoveries that lead to the ability to transplant organs, such as hearts and lungs. All of these can be used on humans, but scientists always start out on animals for testing.

These practices although researched and perfected by this man at this time, would not be nonexistant if he hadn't practiced on these dogs. It would simply take another surgeon or group of surgeons longer to research and perfect these techniques. It's only a matter of when at that point. What can be done, will be done.
