@2010AcuraNSX mercedes make better cars than bugatti. Bugatti is a VW like Maybach is a Mercedes, if you want top speed veyron will win against McLaren f1 but if you want luxury in a coupe car then you go for Exelero
nice vid.. isnt this in Denmark? if yes then its for sale at mercedes in Hoersholm and i have driven in it:P notice the sign at the end. looks very danish.
is it that hard for u good people to see the technical data of amg63 and m5...m5would smoke u,no amg will smoke you" and so on and so on,what is wrong with u people?
what can you expect from a kid who has "diesel" in his name? of course the M5 beats this hands down, it started at around 20-30km/h and it reached 100 when the movie counter almost reached 5s... So it's closer to 5 and a half seconds 0-100. That's still ok, but not enough to cause M5 any problems. The S63 has about half a ton more than the M...Over 100, the M5 beats even a gallardo. So, dieselblue1, you're right... "someone dont know shit about cars" -or spelling for that matter:P
wow... a single overhead camshaft & 3 valves... with a turbo. Listen kid, there are plenty cases where owners themselves stuck turbos on '90s bmw v12s and got way over 600hp. HP is the easiest thing to obtain (think civic). Of course, most people think in hp, 0-100 etc. But conaisseurs think in something else... think ferrari
If you will ever afford a powerful car you will notice the difference too. I see that people driving 200hp & under cars always think about hp and o-100 and nothing else. sad. However I wish you best of luck with your endeavor.
Oh... and if we were to talk in your terms of hp and 0-100 and nothing else, notice that the E63 & the 360 are almost even. The M5 blasts away even the new 489hp F430 so that means... Yes, I understand you're a mb fan, and I respect your choice, but do try to be considerate in your opinions.
well low speeds/distances shure. in a quarter mile the f speeds by. 3.7 vs 4 smth. However u know the f barely touches 300km/h, the m goes to ~320. Over 150-200km/h weight doesn't count as much as drag & hp. in a 1000m race or a full mile, the f can't touch it.
naah. believe me, I've been around engines for a good time. Shure, torque matters, but what really matters is to have it @ as high revs as possible. Revs count perhaps even more than torque. Basically, power=torque*rpm. This is why even modern diesels are shitty, cause they can't rev. Shure, it helps in the first 10m, but afterwards, they all have to shift very soon. If you have an engine that revs twice as much, you'll have the same acceleration as having twice the torque. F1 cars have ~250Nm:)
matts242424... F1 cars have about 800hp? weights about 550kg. Ofcourse they are fast, but in this case it hasnt to do with the torque! And yes they are high revved, and thats because F1 cars have small engines. Small engines need higher revs, but higher revs doesnt need to be better when it comes to different engines. Higher revs means higher friction, and therefor more power loss and higher consumption.
All engines has the optimal rpm! Take our diesel for example... it doesnt revs more than about 5000rpm. It has 314HP at relaxed 3600 rpm, and 730nm torque at 2200 rpm.
As long as you dont have 800HP and weight more than 550kg, torque is crucial at high speed
bkorven, torque helps you accelerate, indeed. But it's torque at the wheels, not at the flywheel, that counts. Flywheel torque is multiplied through the gearbox (x:1) and then through the final drive. gearboxes have pretty close ratios in the same model range, what differs between the diesel/gas is the final drive. diesel ~2.5:1, gas ~3.5-4, for a 300-400hp car. Basically it means that, with a 3:1 diff, if you have 500Nm before the diff, after it you'll have 1500 (at the wheels!) I'll continue.
you'll be amazed... of course, it's the same as with gears. Why do you think it pulls better in first than in forth? I think first has ~4:1, and 4th 1:1 (direct drive). It means 4 times the torque at the end of the gearbox, times 2.5 at the diff, so around 10 times the engine's torque in 1st. But strangely, take a 400nm gas engine with a 4:1 diff (revs higher), and in first, they'll have the same torque (at the wheels)
So basically the diesel's diff multiplies torque ~2.5 times, and the gasoline 3.5-4 times, because it can rev higher and attain the same speed. Which in turn means about 50% more torque for the gasoline(at the wheels). But then the gas engine has a greater usable powerband, the diesel only has around 1000rpm when driven sportly (at maximum power rpm, the next gear would be at around 3000 for example), the gasoline has 2-3 times as much! from 3500-4000 to 6000-7000(normal ones). I'll continue.
nonono:P the higher the rpm you get your torque at, the better the car accelerates. (you can put a higher diff and thus multiply your WHEEL torque). That's basically what horsepower is. I'm shure you'll find the topic on the site I gave you very interesting, let me know how you liked it. That site started my passion for engine engineering:)
sort of... they make their hp by brute force, so they do not multiply it as much. So a diesel multiplyes it by ~10, and gas by ~15 times. but, to reach the same speed, the gas engine would need to rotate ~50% faster - that's true, 4000 vs 6000rpm. However, the 1000rpm sport powerband of the diesel means that at that rpm it doesn't have the full MAX torque, but slightly lower, 3000-4000. And in general, gas engines have a lower "descent slope" from 3500-6500.
but essentially what this tells you is that you can never isolate torque from rpms, it means nothing. At the same maximum power(Nm * rpm), if gearing is done to suit the engine's curve perfectly, the car with a diesel would go as fast as the same car with gasoline. That's why I say that at speed the only thing that matters is hp.From 0-30km/h, a diesel of 300hp perhaps would outrun the aspirated gas engine whith 300hp, because torque peak is reached earlier. Of course, no one wants a 0-30 race:)
haha. We have to talk more tommorow... havent you got my friend invite? Im waiting for you to accept because I am not able to send you private messages... <.<

I wasn't the one who started the m5 vs s63 thing, I'm just replying to the affirmation that the lighter m5 doesn't stand a chance. It might well depend on your definition of a quick car. If you're still a teenager and have never owned at least a 300hp car your idea of a fast car lies in 0-100, 1/4mi & top speed... On these grounds, a comparo HAS been done between the e63 and the m5 and, as before, the amg got blown away.
And please keep in mind that once at speed, the M5 even dispenses the lamborghini gallardo. If you'll get the chance of owning a real car, you'll see there are other things that make a car special.
