If the Monsanto GM corn is resistant to a deadly compound like Roundup, and the farmers growing that corn are spraying Roundup for weed control in those corn fields, then isn't that corn contaminated with Roundup?
@CelticSouthland Yes. All inorganically grown crops have pesticide. The amount is extremely minute but, of course, if consumed over a lifetime, it will manifest into something greater. Eating inorganic food is okay, but should not exceed over 50% of the food you intake. Try to stay away from inorganic food, if possible.

What is forest gardening, you let the plants grow on their own, you do little to no replanting each year, you leave the soil to itself, you build the soil with composting

They're also aiding in the evolution of super-bugs, which means that more of those "nasty insects" will be crawling all of our food even though it's being sprayed with poison.
Personally, I'd rather eat REAL food that had some bugs on it than consume poison every day and watch Monsanto destroy any hope of ending world hunger with their GMOs.

Your first question is implying that the food in the 1st world is all genetically modified. This is a false premises. Since the industrialization of the developed countries from mid-19th century till now, genetic-modification has been only applied in the last couple of decades and far from dominant .. yet

As for your 2nd question, we have enough food in the world to feed more than the 6.5 billion ppl on this earth currently. It's the distribution of the food (the political-economic structure) that is one of the main issue. While US deals with obesity (even using laws to curb it) others starve...

A few of the more popular ones are L-trytophan from GMO bacteria (37 deaths and 1.5K permanent disabilities), FlavrSaver tomatoes (illness), Bt corn (LD50 of their studies of rats and intestinal cancer - the FDA knew about these studies and kept quiet), Starlink Corn and many more.
I'm not against GM entirely but there are issues to go over...

@fatwadmcskylar think about it what do you do with our 'traditional' agriculture. you have to till the soil, plant new seed each year, spray pesticides to control weeds, spray insecticides to control bugs, it increases teh chance of pests and diseases, it degrades soil quality, its inefficient land use. What is forest gardening, you let the plants grow on their own, you do little to no replanting each year, you leave the soil to itself, you build the soil with composting

Modern agriculture is allowing us to survive. "Permaculture" or forest gardening is not realistic on a large scale.

@Twiggy269 Maybe you should do a little more research. GMOs aren't feeding the starving masses. GMO crops are failing more often than non-GMO crops did. They're also aiding in the evolution of super-bugs, which means that more of those "nasty insects" will be crawling all of our food even though it's being sprayed with poison.
Personally, I'd rather eat REAL food that had some bugs on it than consume poison every day and watch Monsanto destroy any hope of ending world hunger with their GMOs.

As for your 2nd question, we have enough food in the world to feed more than the 6.5 billion ppl on this earth currently. During the 90's, there was a memo and report from the UN's agricultural division (forgot the name and abbrev), which demanded farmers to decrease production even when it could expand, to increase food prices regardless of the fact that civilians of that country were starving. I know Monsanto's website stated all about their "saving the starving ppl" (yadayada) PR material. OK, now onto the evidences that GMOs are dangerous. There have been many case studies of various GMOs that have caused illness in ppl. A few of the more popular ones are L-trytophan from GMO bacteria (37 deaths and 1.5K permanent disabilities), FlavrSaver tomatoes (illness), Bt corn (LD50 of their studies of rats and intestinal cancer - the FDA knew about these studies and kept quiet), Starlink Corn and many more.
I'm not against GM entirely but there are issues to go over...

Genetic modification is VERY complex and there are many side-effects and complications that earlier scientist have not thought about. There is the case of trait activation/inhibition, chaperon genes, issues with gene splicing, and ID tags which overcame the "impossibility" of contamination, and many others. Please look them up yourself.

Plant cells and animal cells are vastly different, so just because soemthing might adversely effect a plant, doesn't mean it will have the same effect on people. For example, Round-Up inhibits a pathway only present in plants, not animals. So it doesn't effect people.

I eat organic. It may cost a little more but I've never felt more healthy and the food taste so much better. People once their sick will pay just about anything to feel better. However I would rather feel healthier now and prevent getting sick later. Buy organic! Your body will thank you!

this is stupid, when did you all of a sudden become a communist propaganda channel?? the problem is the role of the STATE as consumer protector and its compounded by the ability of monsanto to lobby the STATE for special protections and barriers to entry, yet you make no mention of how the STATE is causing this problem. its great if you wanna warn people about problems with monsanto products but invoking state agencies to regulate them is completely moronic.
