I've watched this analysis as well as Nova's coverage of Air France Flight 447. Clearly, in both cases, the automatic systems didn't do enough to protect the plane. Certainly, Airbus' aggressive push for automation is spot on. But in the 447 incident, it should have applied the standard response to loss of airspeed sensor information, rather than cutting out, leaving the engines @ reduced power. In this case it should have required explicit override before allowing design forces to be exceeded.
