I have long loved this but not heard it for many, many years. It has about it a unique touch of sheer insanity. It sounds like the head content of a serial killer on acid. Relentless and unwavering. Absolutely fantastic. I guess the performance is OK as well.
its a very nice preformance but in my point of view acording to the age of the piece thers way to much tempo movement it looses sence some times the time should be stragith with slightly changes not those cuts that sounds like errors, its very well played tho and as i said its just my point of view an dmy favorite verions its Pieter Jean Belder one. Nice to see good musicians in you tube not just stupid videos
I don't think Mayako Soné is more virtuose than the MAGNIFIC Scott Ross, but I think each one has their special for of performance, all of them play it very passionated, and imprimate their special print, each one to their own
This performance is notable, but in my oppinion Rafael Puyana offers the best version available. MaestroNiagara2 is right, this piece is not a minuet, is to be played more wildy.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This is horrible, far too machine-like (espeically at 1:00, to 1:06). And that harpsichord sounds more like a spinet, it is *not* the right kind for this piece (Italian harpsichords had longer sustaining on the notes). Scott Ross would blow "mayako sone" out of the water.
I am not understanding this "respect the notes" comment either. A Fandango is not some soft sarabande or a graceful minuet of a Suite or Partita; its supposed to be a fiery Iberian piece so fast and improvisational. I like Scott Ross but his Fandango is nothing too special-I prefer Andreas Staier version more myself. To be perfectly honest, I don't like the French double for this piece as it doesn't give much room to change registration. I would rather play this piece with a 16ft in places.
@MaestroNiagara2 " I would rather play this piece with a 16ft in places," which neither Scarlatti or Soler had access to let alone ever heard. I play it on a Italian one manual both stops 8' (closest I can get to a Spanish Harpsichord) The registration is in the music.
she probably played it too often. lost contact to the piece. just wants to get rid of it. so she rushes through the easy parts, slowing down when it gets difficult. no concept! she should respect the notes, not claptrap-grandstand. 2:42 to 2:54: this is just wrong! compare to scott ross on /watch?v=uvK49gAlNGY at 7:42 to 8:02 . that's where virtuosity shows! she's like these bus tourists visiting "europe in five days". they've been there, but they didn't get it.
what ARE you talking about? Respect the notes? You mean 'play robot-like with microsecond duration conformity'? You obviously have no concept of music. Study the term 'rubato' and perhaps you appear less foolish in the future.
What a pitty that the piece is not complete in this video, we have missed the best!(and the most difficult...), in any case, what I heard was very nice.

@JollyBard A lot of music does that, I just played a prelude by Bach who did just that.

Except for the cut, this is a nice alternative to Staiers Version. Solers Fandango needs Freedom (and therefore variety) in speed for becoming alive.

There are regrettable cuts. But she gets the spirit of the "fandango" remarkably well. I could not help shouting a "olé" or two.
And, of course, they don't make priests like old padre Soler anymore.

Hermoso... Suena con los "golpes tuyeros" (golpe tuyero, música folclórica de una parte de Venezuela), por la cadencia y sonoridad del arpa.

I agree. The fandango is a dance of passion and fire, neither of which this technically OK version has. Nice harpschord, though!
