@petscrazy You should twist his spurs off, they are too long. There is an instrucive video on removing spurs. You should also check if he has scaly legs, and treat him for this.
@petscrazy There is no such thing as normally. If we talk about exceptions, some hens can live to their early twenties but only in so called old heritage breeds. Production birds are usually dead by 4-5 at the most. Your rooster looks like a Leghorn cross, only 1 in 10 birds lives longer than 11 years Other landraces can live to their early to mid teens, but majority begin to die at 6-8 years old
I concur with you Britten!! What a fabulous comb!!!! he's lovely. My chickens are all pets and my hen Lacey comes into the house and jumps up into my lap for snuggles. The moment I start scratching her head she lays down, closes her eyes and I swear it, looks like she is smiling :) I love her so much!!!!
I do not consider that odd. If you love your pets sky is the limit to take care of them. My pet dog, sits with me on the sofa while watching tv. She gets the best deal in our house. My rooster the last one that we have now also is a pampered soul. Anyway why not? They are far better than human company. This rooster of mine will sit on the table with my maid and simply adores her!
I have a friend who has 70 chickens in huge peice of land. She has the largest walk-in cages. It's hard to call most of'em cages. One of'em is like 50 yards long or so and about 10 feet wide and 7 feet tall. she has heaters and fans and all kinds of shit for them. LoL. She doesn't have kids though, just her husband, her poultry, horses, dogs, pigeons, dove, quail (list goes on) lol
Anyways she went as far as planting bushes and trees in there cages haha. Really cool lady.

turns ouuut, if a Plymouth rock rooster is attacking you and has attacked you seral times in the past, a good alternative to kicking him is a good, strong WHACK to the head with a board will do the trick. but im usually not mean to all my roosters unless they attack me. then i just kick them. it doesnt :-)
He is actually right. I f a roo keeps attacking you and from your comment you have probably never been attacked by one, if you kick them that is what they want, they want to fight and kick you, but a good whack to the side of the head with a piece of cane or bamboo will keep them at bay for a while. Look at the spurs on this bird if it wanted to he could stick you good. But this one seems behaved.
See thats how i like to see roosters happy not in fights. I love animals. and hate all those ignorant people that use rosters in fights for money its cruel. at my aunts house i feed chikens and roosters all the time( that is when i go to puerto rico) they are so cute how they come up to u cuz they know u have food.
I live at country and I go there every summer to stay!that's the most beautiful part of the year because I have to take care of little chickens till they grow like this one...and I luv it because I teach them lots of things and feed them!!My favourite two little roosters are Hector and Arthur!
I have 2 pet roosters and 1 hen, all indoors. My two boys are rhode island reds and my girl is a black australorp. My oldest boy is a rescue from a neighbor who starved him and he had no human contact. In 6 months time he trusts me and falls asleep in my lap. My other two sleep on the bed at night with hubby and me and a pet duck.
I was away from him for a few months as I was not well but my maids he simply adores them. I am now a stranger to him. I am not sure whether he will like me but whenever I call him he runs to me. I caress him but my maid will carry him. Yes he is a real 'watchdog'
My black bantam rooster never would crow in my arms. He would just cluck at me! When he was out of my arms and a fair distance away, then we'd have crowing matches!
watch my rooster play a mean game of soccer

My rooster is known in this area as 'giliraj'. He enjoys human company. We will be devastated if he decides to leave this world.

@wieslawl59 Thanks for the suggestion. I have a vet. May be he knows something about this. How many years does a rooster normally live?
