@simpledudeable a low speed landing of a concorde is 150 kts with no flaps. A normal airliner lands ar about 130-140 with the flaps engaged and speedbrakes. The concorde has nothing but brakes and reverse thrust.
When I installed the SSTSIM, the sounds are very poor. The sounds stay the same inside and outside the cockpit. Also, I cant seem to see any fire/exsuaust effects. Any help? Or do I have to set all this up? PLEASE REPLY ASAP!
The sounds should be different between the interior and exterior models. The afterburner is located on the throttle quadrant, right behind the throttle levers. Push those 4 square buttons before you take off, and you'll see those effects.
I was stupid and forgot to turn on my sound. lol. As for the After Burner, you can hit Shift + F4 to arm the After Burner. can you send me as message on how to set up the concorde, you dont have to go into detail, just a little. Thanks a buch
I am not a support representative, therefore I don't know how to help fix your problem. Why don't you go over to their forums and ask your questions there.
That wind shear right at the very end of the IGS approach slammed me into the ground, I tried as hard as I could to keep the aircraft at a reasonable speed for the approach. Cheers.
nice video. what add ons do you have for hong kong scenery? by the way, whats the best pay ware 777 i can buy, bearing in mind that PSS has shut down. cheers
I released this video early last year. From then, I have moved onto FlyTampa's payware Hong Kong scenery, which is a world more detailed than 9Dragons' freeware package. My personal recommendation for a payware 777 is from Wilco/Feelthere. Do a Google search and you'll find it. Cheers.
Thanks DeKarle. The wiper switch is very small and located on the center console towards the copilot's backrest. Refer to the manual if you can't find it. Cheers.
Excuse me, I was wondering if you know a solution to my problem. My problem is the I have this Concorde, but when I go to the Virtual Cockpit view, I can't push or do anything. The Cockpit Window was completly black, the Altidude, Vacuum systems wern't working. I was woundering if you could help me.
Hello there. I don't have any way to help you other than to suggest that you reinstall the package. This will hopefully eliminate the problems that you're having. Cheers.
in real life, with the "windshear" callout, we have written in our SOP to go around...for example, also during take off....if we have the windshear prediction, it's a rejected takeoff...
In your landing, as I'm a real pilot, I would have performed a safe go around..
As I am also a pilot of a C152, I well agree with your point. But this is all for the fun of landing the magnificent Concorde at Kai Tak under extreme circumstances! Cheers.
The "Windshear" callout is not included with the standard SSTSim installation. There are a few GPWS (Ground Proximity Warning System) utilities available on Avsim and other freeware providers. The one I use is Rcbgp-33 from Avsim's File Library.
phew that was a pretty fast touchdown for the first one (each . represents one mississippi) its supposed to be like this 50..40.30.20.10 but still nice landing and plane oh and good aproach is kai taks approaches like that?
This was because there were a set of high hills behind the runway which prevented a safe straight-in approach, so a proper pattern to arrive at Runway 13 was constructed to create a safer, more efficient approach into Kai Tak.
maybe, but Concorde was designed to be stronger than most subsonic aircraft because it had to endure much higher landing speeds. Also, because of the vortex lift its wings created, there was often a "cushion" right before touchdown. Very good video featuring one of the most advanced aircraft, and the jewel of Hong Kong-Kai Tak.
so for those who said its a tailstrike....if you know concord, you should also know that it has a wheel at the tail, so you cant do a tailstrike with damage....where can i find the wiper button ?
This is a 38 knot crosswind on the Kai-Tak Checkerboard approach in a Concorde at night. I made a slight tailstrike on landing but I made it without damaging the aircraft too seriously. Cheers.
Actually the IGS 13 approach is more like a 45 degree turn towards the runway. If a pilot makes the turn too late, it will require a much steeper bank angle....can you say, "STALL"? The way the approach is designed tries to eliminate such steep bank angles at low altitude/low airspeed :o) Of course this comment isn't for the author of this video
This is the SSTSim Concorde, available at the SSTSim website, or off of a payware software vendor such as Flight1, wherever it is available. Prices have changed since official release, so check out Flight1 or SSTSim's main website.
Very nice vid! I have my own Kai Tak version...you should go check it out...it's of the 747 though. BTW, is the SSTIM Concorde much different from PSS? I have the PSS one but the VC textures really suck. Flight dynamics are great though.
Yes, unfortunately, this was a video taken on the second day that I bought the SSTSim Concorde package, so I wasn't quite used to tackling heavy winds on this approach. The landing wasn't a tail strike though, I did sink before touching down.
I understand you're not trying to be rude, but you're wrong. Kai Tak International's IGS 13 Checkerboard approach has an extreme bank at the very last leg of the final. Therefore it is necessary for many airliners to make a 35 degree+ bank in order to position themselves onto the runway.
I had never known this pack was payware, as it is available fully on Avsim, and other websites for free. I would be curious why they would release it as freeware on some sites, and yet put it out with a price to pay.
9dragons Hong Kong is actually payware but they give it away free aslong as its downloaded from the available webbys. If you download it from anywhere else you're liable to pay for it.
Yeah, the windshield wipers are actually from the cockpit, but somehow followed me to all the other views. As for Fraps, if I use it to record videos, I get about 5 fps. So that's why I choose to do it with a camera.

Thanks for clarifying these points. After reviewing some angles from video clips that I did not include in this video, it is clear that the tail-wheel was fully touching the ground. Yes, I'm quite sure in real life there would be quite a lot of gear damage, but I believe the tail is safe.
After reviewing the camera angles it is really hard to say whether there was a tail strike but around 6:11 there appears to be a possible tail strike or just a slight bounce from touchdown. The landing was a little rougher than a pilot would want but the wind was not favorable for landing. Next time try to flare less and apply more thrust to keep the aircraft from slowing in those winds on final. Flare about 3/4 of what you did. Nice approach! Landing was ok unclear tail and landing gear damage.
Concorde was finicky about flaring. It liked a pitched up attitude of about 10 degrees above the horizon for touchdown, if you went up 12+ degrees you could catch the tail, if you went 8 degrees or less you'd bury her in the ground ;)
No it didn't break anything. I had crash detect on. Anyways the landing wasn't too hard, but it 's pretty clear I was battling the strong crosswind. At least I got it on the ground safely. Thanks.
