Here's some interesting info on this song. If you search out "King Of The Mountain" by CHUCK JACKSON on youtube you will find out that the background music is identical! I just recently discovered this as I listened to Chuck's ENCORE! lp on the WAND label!
WOW! Thanks to thebigfist for letting me know that Hall Miller And The Rays initially brought out this song - it's DREAMY! Another dowopper51 gem - thanks Richard!
I don't think I can agree with that. Don't miss understand me, Frankie has a MEGA voice, but Hal has some real class, nice Virgil Johnson style voice, I happen to be a huge Velvets fan.
This song is featured in "Jersey Boys" as part of a sequence when the (obviously frustrated) Seasons are doing backing vocals for Bob Crewe's singers. I go to the show every three weeks and will listen with renewed interest now I've heard this. You post some brilliant stuff!!
Thank you my friend, I just love it, can't help it! Sure wish I had some of your luck! All the good artist down here live near Miami, 250 miles from me. Is Frankie still performing with them?
Those comments about Bridge Over Troubled Water are real funny! Yeah, that song is bad, but during the Viet Nam era and all you protest kids, it was a feel good moment. I think Lone Teen Ranger is way better, but wouldn't have sold as many copies, during that difficult time. Hal Miller made lots of good records!
I think he misunderstood what I said in my desription about P. Simon. I meant Valli was more involved than Paul was, nothing to do with who had a bigger hit or who sold more. Although, Paul did write many tunes, but Valli was still great up until recently. Paul lost it when he changed, Bridge Over Waters was an awful song. I loved him as Jerry Landis. I just think Valli held his style, Paul changed his, I didn't like his change, sorry. Hey, I'm a dowopper not a modern day noise lover, right?
My apologizes, I forgot I wrote what I did in the description About Paul. Anyway, I didn't want to start a debate over who sold a bigger hit. Both these guys have been so involved in music since the 50s. Valli actually started in 54, Paul started in 58. Both have been invloved with many groups & under different names. I haven't researched it yet, but I think Valli beat Paul in regard to this, not who sold the most or biggest hit. I meant who was most involved.

And this song was later covered by The 4 Seasons themselves, with Valli's soaring falsetto outdoing this version.

I can understand, 4 Seasons were a hard group to beat & still are.

It's cool that you can pick out Frankie and the Seasons underneath the lead vocal. Great song.
