Hey guys! Just letting you know Lee Ritenour has a sweepstakes contest going on right now. You can win a Yamaha Acoustic Electric Guitar, Monster® Turbine Professional In-Ear Speakers, or even 110 Electric Guitar Strings. The contest is in collaboration with their new album, 6 String Theory. Check it out! Concordmusicgroup(DOT)com/FreeDownload/6stringtheory
Crazy how such an old guy can still play so fast. Can't say much for Grandpa on the keyboard........a dying art form this genre. Didn't fusion die in the 80s? No wonder they are in Japan? Japan is the last of the western industrial countries where musical preference catches up to the rest of the modern world but where the people can pay $50 a seat.
Dave Grusin, the "grandpa" on the keyboard is one of the jazz industry greats. You can't judge this man from his participation on one song that didn't feature keyboards. Seoul Korea is in KOREA, not Japan. They did this piece at Yoshi's in Oakland and everyone loved the show. LOVED it.
@bertdanger Music is not a matter of age it never has been. Commenting is something you do when you have knowledge of the music you're commenting on. Topography is something you get at primary school. Which cave do you live in?
not a chance! i love spyrogyra but you're comparing nectarines and peaches! Both delicious but totally different textures. you don't even have to listen that closely to know the difference.
I don't understand songs like this. You have a natural organic sounding drummer, bassist and guitar player and then a keyboard that sounds like something you would buy in Zellers in the 80s.
People always seem to criticize and ridicule that which they don't understand. Lee is a living legend, one of the best ever, and any seasoned player knows this. Whether you love this music or not, it's to be appreciated for its craftsmanship.
I admit that word "intolerant" is not the most suitable. I only wanted to say that it is not wrong when somebody doesn't love this kind music. Percetion of music (and any other kind of art) is very subjective and therefore you shouldn't say that somebody is not okay when he/she doesn't like music you consider perfect.
If you don't like it - don't watch it - don't comment on it - don't start a conversation on youtube about it. Just go watch Slipknot and let us enjoy some real music. I swear, I just can't get away from YouTube idiots to absolutely must argue in the comments of every video! It's amazing. Anyway, your Slipknot video is calling.
Again; if you don't love jazz when it's played with this sort of skill and passion, there's something funadamentally wrong in your neural pathology!
Love it!
This is why, it's not the antiseptic, watered down, monotonously copied "smooth Jazz" formula that's killing the enthusiam for jazz in the listening community!
I don't see an honestly arrived at observation as "intolerant" I appreciate the talent of all musicians, I do however, reserve my right to allow my personal likes or otherwise to temper my opinion of same. As a musician of many years f training, I'd like to see "cutting edge" musicians have their place in the market.
Speaking of Rit, he performed here in the Philippines last March 10 and everybody enjoyed it. I would like to ask you, how would you compare Lee with guitar players like pat metheny, larry carlton and mike stern? How would you rate Ritenour in terms of the guitar players that I mentioned? Thanks
But I like more lee than Larry ! In my opinion Lee is the more complete guitarist. From Classic over Latin to Jazz Guitar, he can play everything in a perfect way. Larry is a more blues guitarist. But I love the CD they recorded together "Larry & Lee". It s one of my most favourite CDs !
And Fourplay is also awesome, even with Larry or with Lee !!
Pat Metheny is outstanding ! Lyle Mays and pat are my Godess !
Hi, I'm watching again your video. It seems I dont get tired watching them perform. Could you also post some other tunes from this performance? Can I ask a question? How wud you compare Ritenour with the likes of larry carlton and pat metheny?
Wow, great clip of Dave & Lee! Where did you get this? I guessed I've completed all of Rit's concert videos over the years since '84. The ones that I'm looking for, I'm not sure if there is, are Lee's concert videos during the '70s. Is this video available on DVD or in the market? Thanks.
I have been a fan of both Rineour and Grusin over the years. This is a great performance, but I hate to tell you, this sounds too much like an old 1970's hit by the godfather of Korean rock, "SHIN Joong-Hyun"! The particular piece of his is called, "Mee-In [Beautiful Woman)" in Korean and was and is the most significant piece of "electric guitar" music and a major hit (continued in Part II).
Shin just had a "comeback memorial concert" a short while ago (in Seoul) and I happened to hear Ritenour's "Smoke 'N' Mirrors" today on the radio and was so surprised at the unmistakeable similarity between the two pieces. While I don't mean to say that LR plagiarized the piece, I do find it ironic and a bit curious that this performance was recorded live in Seoul, Korea of all places (how about that for a coincidence!).
