I like Stephen King. He is one of my inspiritions and a fellow new englander. WHile reading sometimes it feels kinda long, but it's worth it. Like the Dead Zone with all those surprises. OR the part with the cop and Annie WIlkes Lawn Mower in Misery. I can't believe someone wouldn;t go past the third page of some awesome books.
Also I reconmend Dennis Lehane, Linda Barnes, Tess Gerritsen and RObert B Parker. all real good boston writer. and Micahel connelly from LA. aslo real awesome series,
Meyer is without a doubt the worst writer I've read. it took me a month to get past the first hundred pages. I was like, "WTF is she saying?" I know it's not that she's a female writer or the point of few the books are written from. it's her writing style. that combined with how she developed the characters made the first book a poor read. it actually made me suck at writing for a bit..then I reread Salam's Lot and I bounced back
I haven't read the Twilight series yet. It's downloaded to my Kindle and will get to it as soon as I can. However, I've read a great deal of Stephen King novels. Your argument about character development were spot on. Stephen King is the master of character development to the point that you actually care what happens to his characters. Your arguments were intelligent and succint. You're obviously quit intelligent.
@bickleej i too agree on character development, but i do admit that (especially with the thicker books) getting past that character develpoment without much els happening is sometimes not easy
@rathmiron Could not agree with you more. There are times when Mr. King does go overboard on the character/area development. For example; the dog in The Stand. The dog was a very important character in the book. However, was it really necessary to delve deep in the dogs background? A bit much, I thought. Another example is in It. Mr. King went so far into the history of Derry, that it was extremely boring to read at times. However, his books are still phenomenal, and I love to read them.

I am an unpublished writer, and what I draw upon for influence on everything (character development, mood, tone, themes, etc.), and it's great. And I've read other classic writers (Vonnegut, Dickens, le Carre), and they are great. THEY have talent, and that's what makes the difference from a writer, and a TRUE writer.

For her occupation she put 'being fat' and for her company she put 'fat'. I believe this is a troll account, and you all got trolled. Twilight and Stephanie Myers has succeded in trolling every last one of us via making us argue and rant in an us vs them fashion. I say be stoic and ignore this. I don't care for either author, but I'm not up on a high horse ranting aobut how the books I like are better either. They are what they are. Some people like them, some don't.

The sexism really pisses me off, and Twilight is teaching kids my age that that's the way a relationship is supposed to be. Of course, being fourteen and a girl, I seem to fall into the steroetype that most people associate with Twihards. I love you, girl. You stick up for literary greatness. I once went a least a year reading nothing but King, and I loved it! I am an unpublished writer, and what I draw upon for influence on everything (character development, mood, tone, themes, etc.), and it's great. And I've read other classic writers (Vonnegut, Dickens, le Carre), and they are great. THEY have talent, and that's what makes the difference from a writer, and a TRUE writer.
