It is nice to see so many people available to lower old glory. Some of our friends have told us that when lowering large flags they have tried it alone and with only two people. The results can be dreadful. One man was picked up and hit the building up near the roof. Another had the flag dragging on the ground and customers were upset. But when the wind is coming one does need to bring the flag down. Nice Video...
I've only found one reference to the fate of the storm flag: in a book called "Flag: An AMerican Biography" by Marc Leepson. He simply states that 'the fate of the smaller storm flag...is not known." That's pretty sad, since that was the flag that actually flew during, and survived, the majority of the battle.
It is 17' by 24'. It's called the Storm Flag because it is a replica of the one that flew during the overnight bombardment of Fort McHenry, which also coincided with heavy thunderstorms that played a key (no pun intended) part in the british defeat. Many of the british bombs fell, unexploded, due to fuses being snuffed out by the rain.
why weren't there 50 stars?

I always thought the post flag was 10' X 19' but drummergirl is right. This one is too big to be a storm flag.

Where is the original storm flag at, today? :)
I have to admit....Out of all the U.S. flags designs, the one with 15 stars and 15 stripes is my all-time favorite.
We also have some 15-star flags available at the Ravalli County Museum's gift shop, here in Hamilton, MT. :)

Very nice. :)
I could tell that it was pretty breezy too.
One of these days, I'm gonna have to save up a few buck$ and take a trip to Fort McHenry and visit there.
