What I most love about her music is that she doesn't concern about "meaning" or something like that. She only writes down the first thing that comes up in her mind and turn out to be something so beautiful. This is a rare gift, to put down something not trying to mean anything, and actually, meaning everything for those who listen.
I just got the CD in the mail! OMFG!!!! I probably......have heard every song on it already so its nothing new really. But im still psyched that I finally got myself a copy!
I used to live in Seattle when I was younger, and when people found out I spoke French, they immediately said: "Oh, you're from France!" Unfortunately, I had to inform them that Québec was indeed a French-speaking province... apparently the proximity of Qc to the States has nothing to do with knowing that.
She's also apparently not a fan of adverbs. I love her hardcore (I'm seeing her tonight! Yay!) so don't freak out and "unlike" this a bajillion times. I'm not knocking her. But she's an artist, so we overlook minor details like "And you will miss them oh so bad"(LY).
Yes, song is sad and a little bit depressing, but "home" at the end sounds relatively optimistic... I like the poet in Regina. She sings about real world, not about fairy-tales...
I think she wrote the part about the gods probably because, since shes Jewish, she learned that the isrealites left their god and that he left them , so she probably read it and inspired her to write that part. :]
few years ago, two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,"Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue." The "clown statue" is really a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this on to 10 videos tonight, the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand;sorry i didn't want that happening to me
Xcept Regina isn't wearing stupid wigs now and making stupid teenybopper music. Tori used to be awesome, now she's following Metallica and all the other sellouts.
Beautiful and meaningful song. It reminds me of a book I'm reading. Also, doesn't the music suit the theme? It sounds very deliberate and dark with that inkling of Victorian/church music underneath, I think. Simply wonderful.
esta es de mis favoritas !!! :)

Only Regina Sektor could get away with intentionally going flat or sharp. It's intentional and perfect and goes with the song.
I love this song. It's haunting and so sad.

This is maybe the first song by Regina where I prefer the lyrics to the music (I don´t think it´s bad!).
Rachelmariaaa 2 years ago 11
I know precisely what you mean. Because the lyrics are so amazing. So perfect.

I love the little trill she does at 0:16! It sounds like it could be from some classical harpsichord piece of music.
JustPuppyLuv 2 years ago 8
@JustPuppyLuv I thought baroque, but I like it oo, it's cute ^_^
OhWowItsChristie 2 years ago 2
@OhWowItsChristie - Gah, I meant baroque. :P Actually, I didn't mean to put classical OR baroque in at all. My brain was a little frazzled that day.
JustPuppyLuv 2 years ago 2
@JustPuppyLuv
so true! she is truly inspired by bach :) give a listen to his "inventions" and you'll see what i mean, especially number one and four. :)

Looking at all the comments on how it's bonne and not bon, I have to say - isn't it likely that Regina could have used bon on purpose?
thewintersongs 2 years ago 3
Hello I love Regina's music but you don't "bon idée"in frech, you say "bonne idée".

She misspelled ''Bonne idée''.
Haha
It means ''Good idea'' in French.
steftube89 2 years ago 2
Not really! Good can be masculine or feminine. And so it can be "Bon Idee" or "Bonne Idee". : )
sunshiineesmiilee 2 years ago
You are right on that, ''Bon'' or ''Bonne'' can both be used in written French.
But the noun ''Idée'' is feminine, so you have to write the adjective ''Bonne'' to go with the noun.
My first language is French, so trust me ;)
I come from Québec, in Canada. It's a French speaking province.
steftube89 2 years ago 5
this is why i will always lament i never learnt french when it was easier to.

I like how you informed us that it's a French-speaking province. I really hope that most people don't need that clarification. :)

I love the deliberate dissonance in this song. None of the popular "songwriters" nowadays would dare stray from the 1-4-5 chord progressions.
