  • I watched this w/ my older brother that just went to college this year, fond memories of listening to 60's music w/ our mom and having him, mom and I together again.

  • Thanks so much for posting this...Without it the song just ends sadly. Well Little Boys grow up and dragons live forever...The most wonderful thing a child can have is their imagination. It should be nurtured and allowed to grow. Realty with all it's faults comes soon enough.

BTW in the updated story th book it ends with Jackie bring his daughter to meet his old friend...

  • In all my 38 years on this planet since I 1st saw Puff I knew I was in love with him! This cartoon is timeless and moving. Also in all my years of smoking I never truly got the weed reference. I mean I get it cause I smoke but that has nothing to due with the moral of this story, the song or the lesson it teaches us, try again "burn outs"! Anyhow, I've never forgotten how truly moving this story is to me. Every decade or so I seek it out. Back in 1990 was the last time I boought a copy from McD

  • used to watch this a lot as a kid. haven't seen it in years.

  • Okay, I'm inclined to believe there's LSD in that chicken soup.

  • It's a monomyth... and a beautiful one. This stirs up some incredible emotions in me.

  • 2:26

  • @xSnood3r

nah they mant weave as in makeing like rugs and cloth not weave like we have.

  • I love this movie but....did anyone catch how they spelled "weave"??? we have??

  • Man, I LOOOOVED this as a kid, retrospectively it kinda creeps me out though

  • WHAT EVER! when u are young and inocent everything is believable and wonderfull!, I decided to keep a good memory of this show ... i love the song weave weave...i just love it!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • countless chickens had to perish in order for honalee's beauty to be restored

  • Seriously creepy. Puffs voice is so eerie ! I used to get so weirdly uncomfortable watching this when I was little and I still do! Pretty amazing cartoon though.

  • @TAYLORBALL5 This cartoon makes a lot of people uncomfortable. Why do you suppose that is?

    It's a monomyth.

You're on a journey, right now, to Honah Lee. You're dreaming, and your not ready to wake up. This cartoon makes that splinter in the far, far back of your mind, prickle. It's affecting your subconscious. Can't you see what's happening right now?

Weave, weave, weave me the sunshine out of the falling rain.

Weave me the hope of a new tomorrow... /watch?v=nBon4yBFRuk

  • when i was little, the main reason why i liked this movie is because my name is jackie, and i looked exactly like jackie draper when i was 5.

  • i used to watch this movie daily as a kid. I forgot how sad it is and how much it is saying about life and mental health. very deep

  • I used to watch this every day, 5-6 times a day, and then I just.. forgot about it. While watching "Meet the Parents," I heard the song, and what else could I do but to watch the show again. I just got done with the second time today. :D

  • Well at the end

  • I'm 19 and I still get teary eyed

  • Jacky paper runs funny

  • I'm not the first to say this, but I truly did have watery eyes watching this again after more than 20 years.

  • 4:22 "by the way wheres your fancy stuff?" hmmmmmmmmm! lol

  • weave me or weed me? hmmmm lol

  • Generally when I watch something I havent seen since I was a kid I think it ridiculous....but this was one that I liked then and I think is well made even today....Holds up pretty good....

  • i remember this

  • Thank you for this! Put a tear in my eye...

  • Thankyou for bringing back my childhood memories! .. Kids these days need more cartoons like we had back then

  • puff is the best therapist !

  • I had tears in my eyes at end,the break of innocence and of the childhood life is pretty hard.

  • Part 1, insightful, Part 2, delightful and emotional, Part 3, inspirational. Have never seen it in all these years. Can hardly think of any words but a bow and a thank you for uploading. I've really enjoyed it.

  • I like how Puff has the face of a kind elderly man with droopy cheeks.

  • Where's your fancy stuff?

  • Thank you for posting that fond memory.

  • I used to love this as a little kid. And the song, even though it made me cry. I wish I could go back.

  • I'm in tears Thank you

  • The moral of the story explains that you won't always be able rely on your "magic stuff," as Puff calls it, and that we can't use it all the time unless "absolutely necessary." Puff states that it is more of a fantasy, but in it we see everything as it really is. The journey to; and being in Hanalei makes one fearless, and chicken soup makes it better.

  • OMG im going to draw puff and jackie now for my deviant account :D if u want to see here i am :) phantomnevermore2365 at deviantart im dedicatin it to u MADDOG6400

  • Argh, as I neared the ending, I felt my childhood disappear all over again! I loved the line about "go beyond childish fancies such as dragons, and not need them anymore...unless absolutely necessary!" I may be 22 going on 23, but I'll never stop needing the childish fancies of dragons and mermaids. Thank you MADDOG6400 for bringing back the memories! <3

  • Puff? why are we back in my room? :(

  • I can't tell you, magic internet box, how happy i was to find this!! A childhood favorite we owned then some strung-out loser friend STOLE. Weave me some f'n sunshine, Puff!

  • Lately, I've been thinking of actually reviving this show into a children's tv series. Basically the educational kinds you find of PBS or Disney Junior. With only three episodes, this dragon needs more TV time. Thumbs up if you agree.

  • I love the cartoon, but how they can argue that it doesn't contain |)rug references is beyond me. Puff blows rings (his name is Puff!), Jackie Paper (begins with "J" for joint and is rolled with paper), Dragon comes from "draggin", aka smoking), Jackie pulls a mushroom out of his chest of drawers, and if you rearrange the letters of the magical land of Hanalei, you can spell "inhale". All coincidences? Really? One of the cartoon's more subtle messages is substance abuse to escape your problems.

  • @seekingtruf The song is turned into a narrative to further the story and it loses the original meaning. Nothing in the movie shows kids or even adults that substance abuse is a way to solve your problems. Puff shows Jackie at every to solve his own problems. But, you know what, thanks. Thanks for pointing it out and putting that thought into the minds of all the kids and impressionable teens who are reading these comments. Way to go, JA. Can you guess what the underlying message was there??

  • @sarcazmotheclown What do you mean its original meaning?

  • @seekingtruf (1) Puff blows rings of smoke because he's a dragon, and dragons breathe smoke and fire (2) J could mean a million different other words, they had to choose a name and with all the slang out there for drugs, you could say any letter refers to some drug reference (3) The mushroom he pulls out of his bag is a direct reference to Alice in Wonderland, a children's story about magic (4) you can't rearrange Hanalei, into inhale, there's two a's in the word Hanalei, learn to spell dumbass

  • uhhh my fancy stuffs under my bed with the rest of the white powder

  • "where is your fancy stuff?"

uhhh, i think i left my stash in the car.

  • @cleetus5555555 Same here!

  • Omg.... This is my first time seeing this and I am crying. This cartoon has so much depth. It's such a treasure :'-) xxxxx

  • LOL at Puff 2:28!

  • I'm pretty sure he's saying "Weed made the sunshine out of the fallen rain" during the song @~ 2:00

  • I dont get it

  • yeah

  • what a great cartoon

  • wow jacky draper IS my inner child. not being able to communicate or connect with the world due to fear of the unknown, my negative perception of people, and fear of failure is the story of my life

  • the song at 1:00....i used to sing that on my swingset when i was 5 :*)

  • So, the cure for Autism .. is a Puff of a Magic Drag-on and isn't "Chicken Soup"? like a book with "Biblical" references for hope?

  • Jackie was a stoner (:

  • why wouldn't he talk in the first place? D:

  • Thanks so much for putting this up! It brought back so many memories of way back in the day and childhood came to life! I have a new daughter and she will know puff! Love it!!

  • Does anyone else think its a little creepy hes taking out the kids soul and putting it into a piece of paper

  • Nipple Turds

  • wooow magic chicken soup!!!!!

  • "....and eventually go beyond childish fantasies such as dragons.....and not need them anymore........unless absolutely necessary." =) 3:16

  • @Danotech9 I refuse to grow up!! :(

  • @MADDOG6400 You may grow old but you don't have to grow up. Puff FTW

  • @Danotech9 I think more adults would be happier if they thought of dragons from time to time...

  • anybody else notice how the dragon isnt wearing clothes?

  • My fancy stuff is hidden behind my sock drawer.

  • 0:44 just brings back so many memories, its like I can close my eyes and I'm 8yrs old again! gotta love youtube.

  • I STILL NEED MY CHILDISH FANTASIES!!!!

  • by the way... where's your fancy stuff?

    HAHAHAHAHA

  • I think I remember seeing another cartoon after this special. It was about a little man in the colonial history and his first name was Hector.

  • I had this on videotape way back in the day, and hadn't really seen it in years! this still kicks ass!

  • Is it bad that I laughed the whole way through?... Puff steals the kids soul for a paper. Puff has Cloud eyebrows, and seaweed hair. The huge pirates belly jiggles. Oh and you cant forget those lovely signs... "bow down low" and "get on your knees" and he blows smoke.... Kids cartoon my rear...

  • Why does Puff say "Chicken soup" before he leaves? =\

  • @MorganNSwenson He's basically going, "What the hell!? How did this kid get the idea of chicken soup for curing the sneezes and Hanalei!?"

  • @MADDOG6400 It's certainly about learning to solve things by yourself, that's what I get out of this special.

  • @RetroToledo i got the impression jackie might have been autistic?

  • @MorganNSwenson he says chicken soup because earlier it was stated chicken soup is the best cure and puff was pretty much jackie's chicken soup

  • @MorganNSwenson to remind jackie of everything he just did...

  • The "weave me a rainbow of sunshine" song: Listen closely to the word weave. Sometimes it sounds VERY VERY VERY similar to WEED. Weave weed weave me a rainbow of sunshine... XD Gahd!

  • 2:40- the end is very touching :}

  • God I am crying.........

  • Perfect thank you so much

  • This just made my day. :)

  • Wow I don't think I've seen this in about sixteen years!

  • Where's your fancy stuff??? ;-p

  • this whole movie is a total acid trip!! i love it!!:D

  • lol

  • We all have a puff inside of us, its about finding the good Being in all of us "who we really are" Puff and the boy are really the same thing!

  • omg i miss this show...hahaha being 18 seems impossible....hahahaha i guess it just means i'm gonna download these three videos and burn them onto a DVD for my little nephew to enjoy...

  • Was this a series? I remember watching several eppisodes in Kindergarden the animation style and songs were simaliar. I remember Puff had some friends and there was an eppisode on kindness to animals and another where they played school.

  • @PinkPunkyKat In was a series. There were three of them. Jackie Draper, Land of the Living Lies, and The Incredible Mr. Nobody.

There was an episode on kindness to animals?? The only one I knew that involved animals was on, "The Incredible Mr. Nobody" where a kid had an imaginary duck.

  • @MADDOG6400 I remember the animals running away from their owners because they weren't being very nice to them. I clearly remember a dog saying something about his owner biting his ears. All the animals ran to Puff and his friends in a cave setting and when their owners came to get them, Puff went all SPCA on them. Perhaps I'm thinking of something else or am remembering it wrong or it's possible I dreamed it.

  • @PinkPunkyKat Yeah, it was probably something else. Even Wikipedia confirmed only three 30 min. shows.

  • @MADDOG6400 Wikipedia isn't the Gospel truth though. Anyone can edit it but I agree with you that it was probably something else. I'll have to watch the other two eppisodes.

  • @PinkPunkyKat You're thinking of The Lollipop Dragon. I saw those in Kindergarden, too. They weren't animated, just pictures and recordings.

  • his parents are all like "uh what the fuck just happened..."

  • I Love the last scene. "By the way , where is your "fancy stuff". (as he blows a huge purple haze from his mouth) ROFL-Waffles. ;-)

  • the ending made me cry :'(

  • I havent seen this in at least 20 years and am now noticing that puff had some old man features (sagging cheeks, thick eye brows, and a vest and bow tie. So sad this only went for 3 shows. Could have been as big as sesame street.

  • I think I must have been somewhere from 3 to 5 years old when I watched this, and often. Im 24 now, and I have not seen it all since we lost our vhs long ago. This did in fact make me cry a bit, as the songs are sweet and innocent. It really is a wonderful little movie...and I'm glad I could find it and see it again. It means a lot to me. <3

  • Why isn't it playing???

  • @kcrutchl Try again. It's working fine for me.

  • i heard the song was to do with drugs and then they created a cartoon series of a dragon tht helps children with problems

  • how is this sad? in the end he had loving parents

  • @iyoshidrummer these kind of good bye are always sad.

  • this is the greatest thing ever created. hits me right in the heart :3

  • Holy smoke NOSTALGIA ALERT! It's been years since I've seen this!

  • @JeterSwisherFan88 agreed major Nostalgia alert

  • This cartoon is pure perfection. A perfect window into my childhood on a day I am not feeling well. Thank you.

  • I think Jackie Draper is autistic. It seems that way at the beginning of the cartoon, him not being able to talk and communicate. I think it's wonderful how the depicted it. Later on, it seems obvious that it's about growing up...

Anyway, love the song, especially Bonnie "Prince" Billy's version, but i can't finish it listening without bursting in tears :)

  • I love this movie..but i heard it was about smoking weed...idk if its true tho..i hope not!

  • Thanks for posting it ! Keep it running !

And let's hope YOUT*UBE will keep it !

Keep up all that good work !

Thanks ! Real Enjoyed it - to the FULLEST :)

  • My fancy stuff is with you Puff =,,)

  • Wow they totally spelled we've wrong....think someone would've noticed that

  • @Pandamonium16 It's supposed to be weave.

  • @Pandamonium16: look at it again, the lyrics says "Weave me the sunshine out of the fallen rain"

  • The last time I watched this I was a 9 year old girl, I got to watch it at my Aunt Penni's house she died when I was 12 and until now I hadn't seen it since. It took everything in me not to cry. I think I needed Puff today . . .

  • The last time I watched this I was 9 years old, I got to watch it at my Aunt Penni's house she died when I was 12 and until now I hadn't seen it since. It

  • Oh my gosh I'm crying nonestop!!!

  • i cant belive i remember this .......i love this

  • Childhood was amazing right? A time when anything could happen, only at the extents of your imagination.

  • Wow! I was actually surprised while watching it, on how much I actually remembered! I Loved to watch this as a little girl, It has been at least 25 yrs since I have seen it! Now if I can only get my boys to watch it...lol! Thanks for posting and sharing...

  • i love this so much, its so beautiful and innocent. it reminds me of when i was a little kid and i watched it with my little brothers and sisters. It makes me want to go back to those good days when life was easy and fun. i freaking love Puff the Dragon

  • This was before my time and just saw this for the first time today, it's very moving and brought me to tears, I relate to Jackie and thank God for helping me out of that state I was in to become a new person. I love this.

  • Who would thought a children's show called "Puff the Magic Dragon" could have so much depth, meaning, wisdom, and emotional impact?

  • i remeber this, wow i miss this sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much! this used to be my favoriite song ever :C<333glad i re-saw this

  • Jackie Draper's dad looks just like George Noory to me :)

  • This movie is so old i remember the first time i watched it i cryed to hard but then again i was like 2 haha

  • I love this show! omg i have the video lost somewhere in my mountain of tapes, but i love it so much!

  • I had a guinea pig named puff but I had to give him away so I cry when I hear that song. wa wa wa!!!

  • I can't believe it... My favorite dragon came back after 20 years! I haven't seen this cartoon for so long!

  • @d0nLight That scene where puff went in his cave used to make me cry as a kid...haha

  • I'll never leave you Puff! Well, we'll see.

  • Yeah, that part made me cry. :(

  • It's... it's so sad... why?? Why is it so sad??

Gosh, I never gonna stop crying to stuff like these...

  • omg memeries to the past it makes me cry.... so touchyyyyy

  • ahh memories. I watched this over and over again when I was a kid. Thanks for uploading. :D

  • @ambee81 Me too. I also had the record and picture book thing. I'll bet I made my parents hate the soundtrack! Ha ha!

  • This has got to be one of the most traumatic endings to a children's film ever! Was difficult to watch when I was a child and is not so easy now! I'm 36 now and was almost in tears watching it! At least it's not a dumbed down saccharine ending we get mostly these days.

  • @oneworldfamily

Well you should've seen me when I re-discovered this back in December! I was bawling almost the whole time in shock that this did in fact exist!

Plus, it reminded me of happy days with the whole family watching this on the console TV but that's a whole nother story.

Yeah, no kidding. Stupid FCC and their regulations. Blame the freakin' FCC for everything that's wrong in the media today.

  • @MADDOG6400 What do you mean the FCC ruining families watching TV? Are you talking about the Gingrich/Telecom Act stuff?

  • @MADDOG6400 I cried all through it too. My husband laughted at me. Its a beautiful reminder of childhhood.

  • wheres your fancy stuff???

  • I hate when people think the song or cartoon or whatever is about drugs.......but that last line was just sooo suggestive toward that notion.

  • Also, that line is at 4:20 into the video.. 4:20, that's hilarioius

  • I was probably four of five years old when I first watched this, man! Thanks for keeping my childhood memories alive!

  • well said!

  • Comment removed

  • i would luv to turn this into a musical or something!

  • That sounds genius.

  • well thank u!

  • Maybe we could do it together.

  • maybe...

  • chicken soup

  • yeah my moms friend bought this for me when i was like 7 or 8, and i didnt really understand it like i do now! wow. *tear* nostalgia

  • i love this movie. just for the song at the end. WEAVE WEAVE WEAVE ME THE SUNSHINE... *runs through raining chicken soup naked* ...OUT OF THE FALLING RAINN!
