Beautiful song of Ireland that tells the true story, of the traitors and battles that old Ireland has endured.. Now we are divided, sold out by so called republicans in Sinn Fein who have sold their nationality for money and power, may they rot in hell, for the lives they have wasted for their phoney war.
I recently picked up the album " four Green Fields" at the Goodwill store for a couple of bucks. THis is just awe inspiring music. How in #### did 2 people give this a thumbs down?
The pain suffered under the cruel yoke of filthy British oppression is expressed in this song when men and women would rather die fighting than have their culture eradicated
ironicly the irish rebels rose on the steam of the american rebellion and the british fought back against the irish as a show of defiance against any resistance to the crown .
irish rebels have been in existance ever since the british invaded, so it had nothing to do with America, there were 6 main all country upriseings against the british occupiers and they go much further back than the American State.
1916 was hightened because of the weapons trade by irish Americans , altho the actuall people from the states never came and took part , (except for the wanker eamon dev who was an French American and sold us out to the british)
this song and poem tells of a terrible but glorious event. terrible in the death and carnage suffered by our forefathers, but glorious in the fact that these men and women would rather face death than suffer more oppression by the filthy crown.
True, the spiritual freedom of those men, acting and fighting on their own initiative and slaves to none is dealt with in the words of the song... when they sneer at the Hessian mercenaries...
'Look out for hirelings, king George of England, search every country there hides a slave', the Hessians were treated as little more than slaves, many of them were prisoners let out on condition they joined.
I didn't know you but my mother & father have told me of your songs & music. Kathleen my mother was in the hospital at the same time when you had your children & speaks of you VERY fondly.
As the son of the man who played the guitar on this song I can honestly say that although it may be many a year since its recording, I still remember Eamonns voice........ and to this day.......... I still cry. To Eamonn, Kathleen, Tony, Benny and Paul...... Thank You sons and daughters of Ireland.

Brilliant to hear Seamus's poem. But no! Not the song! It sounds so wrong like this.
Who are the singers? It's painful.
Sorry, if you're fans.
