  • has me in tears everytime and sends shivers down my spine BEAUTIFUL!!

  • Beautiful song of Ireland that tells the true story, of the traitors and battles that old Ireland has endured.. Now we are divided, sold out by so called republicans in Sinn Fein who have sold their nationality for money and power, may they rot in hell, for the lives they have wasted for their phoney war.

  • by far the best version ive ever heard of this ballad....

  • Pure Irish 100%..They never heeded the warnings that the brave sons of Ireland would beat the bastards in the end....Sung by Eamonn Largey.R.I.P..

  • The pain suffered under the cruel yoke of filthy British oppression is expressed in this song when men and women would rather die fighting than have their culture eradicated

  • gees my dad had an LP of the flying column long long time ago i wish i had it now ...fantastic

  • That was a great album by the Flying Column I had it on cassette at one stage.

  • Great song!

  • ironicly the irish rebels rose on the steam of the american rebellion and the british fought back against the irish as a show of defiance against any resistance to the crown .

  • irish rebels have been in existance ever since the british invaded, so it had nothing to do with America, there were 6 main all country upriseings against the british occupiers and they go much further back than the American State.

1916 was hightened because of the weapons trade by irish Americans , altho the actuall people from the states never came and took part , (except for the wanker eamon dev who was an French American and sold us out to the british)

  • Mr Rafferty, The American Revolution had quite a lot to do with the Fenian rising of 98 and the French Revolution.

  • hi yes all the revolutions that took place over this past 3 centurys had a big bearing on other countries that bordered on them m

  • Awe inspiring!!

  • great stuff, croppy's will never be defeated, seamus heaney is a legend.TAL

  • Tíocfaídh Ar La

  • GREAT song, can you translate your comment please?

  • Our day will come!

    Tiocfaidh ar la!

    Beidh ar la linn!

  • our day will come

  • this song and poem tells of a terrible but glorious event. terrible in the death and carnage suffered by our forefathers, but glorious in the fact that these men and women would rather face death than suffer more oppression by the filthy crown.

  • True, the spiritual freedom of those men, acting and fighting on their own initiative and slaves to none is dealt with in the words of the song... when they sneer at the Hessian mercenaries...

'Look out for hirelings, king George of England, search every country there hides a slave', the Hessians were treated as little more than slaves, many of them were prisoners let out on condition they joined.

  • What a song! What a poem! And they want us to call Norn Ireland our country ?? Never!Ireland for ever !!

  • Yes it definately Eamonn. He has a unique voice.

  • Heaney is one of our best poets and I think this is one of his best poems. It goes lovely with this song.
