She was a beautiful looking ship but they shouldn't have added those couple of decks. It destroyed the sleek lines and the look of the funnels that towered high above the deck like sails.

I've recently found that even I love all Ocean Liners, Cunard White Star & Holland American Lines built their Liners on tridition. That's what make black hull Liners like France QE2 & QM2 special. Other Lines like Royal Carribbean & Carinval can't complete with Cunard in terms of speed & luxury, Built floating casinos instead

Seeing this brought back memories as I was on her last voyage when the explosion occured.Panic and kaos everywhere, but I will always remember the beauty of this ship. Glad you made this tribute to her.
Just like the Normandie, the Norway("France") is a classic example of French maritime excellence meeting an unnecessary tragic end. This ship was a masterpiece of art and engineering. I hope the SS United States doesn't meet her end like this. I'd rather see Big U break it's chains and go straight to the bottom like the SS Constitution than go to Alang. If they are going to break up the SSUS, I hope they take her to Newport News where her builders can dispose of her with dignity.

Jahrelang lag sie im Becken III des Kaiserhafens in Bremerhaven. Jeden Morgen hat sie mich begrüßt wenn ich mit dem Rad zu Arbeit gefahren bin. Solche schönen Schiffe werden verschrottet! Wenn man sich jetzt diese angespitzten Schuhkartons anschaut, die man "Schwimmende Hotels" nennt, sieht man die Profitmaximierung in Stahl. Heulen könnt' ich !!

I had the pleasure of sailing on this great lady in 1985. It was the experience of a lifetime. I remember it so vividly, and it breaks my heart that she's now gone. Seeing her in dry dock in India tore me up, I hated seeing her ripped to pieces.
She will live in in my heart and in many others I'm sure. RIP, beautiful SS Norway! I'll never forget you!

Its a pity the modern passenger/cruise ships dont have the distinctive looks that the older ships had ,you could indentify the the norway or the canberra etc on the horizon just by their silhouettes. The new ones are just apartment blocks on water

She was launched as the SS France in 1961 and sailed with the French line until the mid 1970's, then after several years of sitting in dock she was bought by NCL, renamed Norway, and sailed with them until 2003 when they set about destroying her.
This video broke my heart. I worked on the Norway in the salon in the mid 80's. I have the best memories EVER of my life when I called her my home. The crew were treated like passengers, not hired help. We had so much fun and great food in the crew dining room, and great times in the crew disco! Going out into the public areas at night was grand, as we had to dress up! Club Internationale was my fave. Those were awesome times!! I HATE that She has been dismantled. R.I.P. Blue Lady

Boy, you aren't kidding, I was thinking the same thing about those added decks. In its' original form it had beautiful, classic lines and they ruined it. New ships are sinfully ygly! It's a shame about it being scrapped but, such is life. That's what happened to the Olympic and a plethora of other famous ships too. Whatcha gonna do.

I commend you on your pursuit to give these ships the honor they deserve and with the next generation of ships that do not hold all the seemingly easy excuses like asbestos and other things that make it easy for owners to write them off i hope this practice of ship breaking is slowed to a crawl.Or at least to ships that have truly run there life span,But are properly salvaged within environmental standards and also the ships history taken into account.
Yes the asbestos and PCB's are a big health hazard in 3rd world breakers.
However, one blessing in disguise is that most of the Norway will be put to use again. Interior fittings or sanitary ware which may be broken up or burnt at Western breakers is meticulously saved at Alang. Almost everything is saved, valves, taps, doors, cloth, pipes etc. It all goes to the merchants specialising in that item and is largely reused intact.

I used to work on the SS Norway, which is actually my first ship. Worked as a slot technician but spent part time on the engine room for the extra money. I'll definitely miss the ship, old as she was, has her own distinct character and enchantment.

She was a beautiful looking ship but they shouldn't have added those couple of decks. It destroyed the sleek lines and the look of the funnels that towered high above the deck like sails.

I can see a better future for Norway. Where's What I see. SS France Norway, departs Miami for another criuse with 2200 passengers & crew. Norway is never seen again. But I find her 4 years later. Norway is still afloat & is ok. I climb aboard, but everyone is dead. then they start coming after me, asking me to join the dead. I gladly accept, because I love Ocean Liners. I've recently found that even I love all Ocean Liners, Cunard White Star & Holland American Lines built their Liners on tridition. That's what make black hull Liners like France QE2 & QM2 special. Other Lines like Royal Carribbean & Carinval can't complete with Cunard in terms of speed & luxury, Built floating casinos instead

Just like the Normandie, the Norway("France") is a classic example of French maritime excellence meeting an unnecessary tragic end. This ship was a masterpiece of art and engineering. I hope the SS United States doesn't meet her end like this. I'd rather see Big U break it's chains and go straight to the bottom like the SS Constitution than go to Alang. If they are going to break up the SSUS, I hope they take her to Newport News where her builders can dispose of her with dignity.

Jahrelang lag sie im Becken III des Kaiserhafens in Bremerhaven. Jeden Morgen hat sie mich begrüßt wenn ich mit dem Rad zu Arbeit gefahren bin. Solche schönen Schiffe werden verschrottet! I had the pleasure of sailing on this great lady in 1985. It was the experience of a lifetime. I remember it so vividly, and it breaks my heart that she's now gone. Seeing her in dry dock in India tore me up, I hated seeing her ripped to pieces.
She will live in in my heart and in many others I'm sure. RIP, beautiful SS Norway! I'll never forget you!

She was launched as the SS France in 1961 and sailed with the French line until the mid 1970's, then after several years of sitting in dock she was bought by NCL, renamed Norway, and sailed with them until 2003 when they set about destroying her.

This video broke my heart. I worked on the Norway in the salon in the mid 80's. I have the best memories EVER of my life when I called her my home. The crew were treated like passengers, not hired help. We had so much fun and great food in the crew dining room, and great times in the crew disco! Going out into the public areas at night was grand, as we had to dress up! Club Internationale was my fave. Those were awesome times!! I HATE that She has been dismantled. R.I.P. Blue Lady

I commend you on your pursuit to give these ships the honor they deserve and with the next generation of ships that do not hold all the seemingly easy excuses like asbestos and other things that make it easy for owners to write them off i hope this practice of ship breaking is slowed to a crawl.Or at least to ships that have truly run there life span,But are properly salvaged within environmental standards and also the ships history taken into account.

Yes the asbestos and PCB's are a big health hazard in 3rd world breakers.
However, one blessing in disguise is that most of the Norway will be put to use again. Interior fittings or sanitary ware which may be broken up or burnt at Western breakers is meticulously saved at Alang. Almost everything is saved, valves, taps, doors, cloth, pipes etc. It all goes to the merchants specialising in that item and is largely reused intact.
The Finnjet will also be treated the same way.

I used to work on the SS Norway, which is actually my first ship. Worked as a slot technician but spent part time on the engine room for the extra money. I'll definitely miss the ship, old as she was, has her own distinct character and enchantment.

I need to warn all you tube viewers about a guy calling himself homeric9. He poses as a maritime expert or amateur ship enthusiast, but he doesn't have any videos of his own or websites to back that up.
Instead it is believed that he may be a plant from NCL/Star/Alang Scavenger organizations spreading propaganda to counter the illegal disposal of the SS Norway-Indy-United states etc etc. MASSIVE virus attacks have been made on websites trying to tell people the truth about these ships.

Don't listen to this person. He's an NCL plant. They have been trying to hush up the scrapping of the Norway because they know it is bad for business. Of course they will try and draw a veil over the scrapping while the cruise population desert them in droves. Not only that but Homeric has been promulgating FALSE information about the boiler explosion and the ILLEGAL export of the Norway from Bremerhaven all the while MASSIVE virus attack was being made on Norway supporter website/emails.

Titan has not read the Congressional Act allowing NCL to do business in Hawaii as if he had he would see NCL never promised, or was obligated to returnt he Indy or the US to service.
