Something tells me Jesus does not want you under a bridge. I think that Jesus and the one who created us had intended for something greater than being preached to under a bridge sitting on folding chairs. If Jesus was here today it would be hard to think he would be under a bridge i would imagine he would be trying to get people out of bridges and have them come together and live in peace and love. Im no christian nore am i a atheist although i do not have a problem with Jesus.

Homeless people need clean socks, good shoes and toothpaste, a toothbrush and dental floss. Once your teeth fall out your odds of getting a job drop to zero. Except for a gum job and no man or woman should ever have to go there. Life is hard enough, with a home.

Each of those quotes you put here are reasons to avoid god-belief. Not just the god in that terrible book, but any god-idea. They're all equally unsupported by evidence, but some are much more insane than others. You set the bar high with your support of that insanity.

CreationPhotography - Hate is an emotion that religious people have an obvious need to inject into any debate about religion. So I don't hate you for pushing such anger on me, though you don't know me, and have no reason to hate me.

See how religion divides people, and inspires animosity? You could just communicate with me in your own words, and be more friendly, I'm sure.

Atheism comes with no such inspiration to hate and oppose fellow humans. We're all people deep down, gods or no.

You looking for someone to go with you? Well, heck that's all you have to say and toiletries are easy enough. I prefer Sunday morning though.  Why toiletries may I ask and not food or water?

Well toiletries and water bottles. I don't want to mess with food for a couple of reasons. It's already taken care of, there might be issues over food quality, and food takes more preparation.

Toiletries are long lasting, inexpensive and don't come with risk of health issues. I can just see a Christian telling people that we're giving out expired food, or dirty food or food that's unhealthy, or food that needs a permit or y'know...

I don't see much giving out of toiletries now.

I made it down there Saturday from 10 to 10:45 just to check it out. Everyone pretty much stayed to themselves as the band set up very very slowly. The only thing I noticed was two guys who had new shoes were extremely excited they had new shoes but everyone else pretty much stayed to themselves and didn't talk to each other hardly. I will go again and hang out so they get used to seeing me before I start approaching them.

it is funny that they preach about god helping and watching over them, what a crock, i know they are probably nice people who want to help but come on nobody should know god does not exist like the homeless.

I'd say just show who you are and don't preach. Maybe hand out free books so that they could read it by choice. I think they'd appreciate that.

In LA, we can't hand out food to the homeless without permits.

We had something like this on the beach, where this group had set up hot dogs and other food items. The homeless had to sit and listen to the "word of god" before they could eat.

My mother and I were so repulsed that we interrupted and asked the homeless if they'd like $5 instead. So we gave them each five bucks and they left.

It's a huge and complex problem in LA. I've been there on the streets.

I was one of the first active members in that group, and the first co-host of the Atheist Experience tv show. But now I've let my membership lapse and I don't go to meetings much anymore. I'm now about promoting American Atheists in Texas.

I may try to be a guest on TAE to talk about this, but it's more likely that I'll just call in and mention it. I've bugged them about plugging help so many times over the years...lol
