  • also if u have gears tlok tb and tb spacer with a cai you can cut up to 1 sec off ur 1/4 mile time if not .75 secs and thts jus bolt ons...also dual exhuast doesnt ad hp jus increases the flow of stuff in and out there for helping accel

  • ok i got my cold air intake for my 2000 v6 mustang a long time ago about 10 months ago. Its a BBK cai and im pretty sure they gave me the wrong air filter but i installed it anyway. I literally had to ram the thing into my car. Anyone think i should buy a replacement filter to fit into my car correctly? Anyone think the bigger air filter is actually not giving me full potential since its probabley oddly shaped in my air filter area?

  • @XSoulscarz53X I had the same problem with mine, I had a K&N Cold Air Intake and it never fit perfectly until I bought a throttle body spacer, maybe try that out.

  • @Westley420 well the actual filter itself doesnt fit where its suppose to. i wanna buy a new throttle body but doesnt seem worth it for the results. what is it like .2 secs faster 0-60? if that?

  • @XSoulscarz53X didn't really notice a power upgrade with the 65mm throttle body, but it did improve the sound of my exhaust so I was happy with it. And that was on the black mustang I have the videos of.

  • @Westley420 think about it, its a v6, how much more air does it need if its stock, and your not adding more fuel so therefore no extra horses, maybe throttle response and sound thats about it

  • @XSoulscarz53X just to let you know.. most CAI for mustangs need to be installed through the fender-well. The filter is too big but there are some filters like the AMERICAN MUSCLE one thats like 100 bucks that fit right in

  • ur right about the 3.9 but it wasnt because they had a special package it was because they retired the 3.8 for the upcoming 4.0 and made a error counting. since they ran out of 3.8 because of that they found the closest thing to it and stuffed it in.

  • Actualy they stoped the 3.8L when the windstar vans upgraded to a 3.9L. The V6 mustang shared the engines with the windstar for many years, and Ford did not want to produce two engines for such little differences. The 3.9L had no relevence to the upcoming year's 4.0L that it shared with the Ranger for the last 5 years. Yes it also acted like a publicity stunt for the 40th anniversary editions, but the difference was marginal, maybe 2-3 horsepower gain.

  • there engines are similar but the blocks are actually different casts. the bolt holes for engine mounts and trans mounts don't line up, the intake is also different. other than that they are the same. the 4.2L F150 motor is pretty much the same too just a longer stroke crank shaft. (other comment was left by my friend on my account)

  • Its not 3.9l, My neighbors 04 V6 still says 3.8 on the tag(all 04s were 40th anniversary), regardless of what Ford calls it, its the same motor, just a different intake. I looked it up on a Mustang fan club website, all they did was round up the old number, its still not 3.9l

  • you get it to read like that by holding down the the button before turning the car on, while holding it start your car and wait for the gauges to test, then you can keep hitting the button to scroll through them, do it all the time in my 04

  • before you start the car, hold down the trip odometer button, and continue to hold it while you start the car, and let go of it when it says "test". then you can scroll through many engine options and diagnostics, much of which are just jargon.

  • Pretty nice. Good job. Although mustangs aren't sleepers, making the most out of a v6 is really cool and a testament to smart tuning. I have a volvo 850 turbo that hits 0-80mph in about 10.5 or 11 seconds, a little faster up top than yours, but then again I am running 17psi boost. It's fun to make the most out of a diff base car than usual. Great job!

  • For all those people out there dissing V6 Mustangs, I own a '97 V6 stang and i love it to death, i mean is sporty enough, however people need to realize that this car was not built for speed, it was built for looks without the price tag, and hell for $500 you can make it sound pretty cool with a simple bolt on exhaust kit, it really is a nice little car, plus in Virginia, it's classed as a Subcompact not a sports car, so again you get the look without the price, thank you :D

  • I totally agree. That's why I bought mine. Already have a 67 muscle car. Needed something else that did a little better on gas. One of the fastest street legal mustangs in Mustangs and Fast Fords magazines was a 96 V6 Twin Turbo. Ran the 1/4 mile in 9.23. That's respect worthy. It doesn't take a whole lot for a 99-04 V6 Mustang to beat its stock GT counterpart. Trust me.

  • The Ranchero has been in my family since 1967 and still on the road. I've had my mustang longer than you have been aloud to drive. 10 years from now, they'll still both be running while your subaru sits in pieces on the side of the road.   • Alot of ppl talk shit about Stang6's..bullshit! I bought 95 v6 with a rod knocking for $1200 but with a 90% body and interior. I wanted to rebuild the motor anyway so I bought it..about $300 for rings bearings and gaskets & resurfaced heads. runs sweet. put a cold air kit and really runs good now. Im planning on exhaust, what is a easy but good duel set up? Big thing with the v6 is weight reduction, Im planning to get rid of alot of metal over time, I bet a plastic fuel cell would trim alot off.

  • once intake, exhaust and brakes get uprated, I bet a Nitrus kit and shit kit for my automatic would kick ass..whole thing would run me under $4000 and that includes the car itself! Even with a junkyard rear from a GT to handle the nitrus it wouldnt run much more than that. I dont understand the gripes! the v-6 is a good deal if you can do your own work, besides,most of those old v8s out there are running like shit anyways they take alot of abuse and change alot of hands.

  • when you went over to the dual set-up, did you lose any low-end tourque? I guess you did, you changed to 3.73 gears..what was it like before the re-gearing?..sluggish???

  • i might have but not much because i didnt even notice a difference, but the sound is unique and worth it. it was only 80$ to do, so not too expensive, almost as much as the he underdrive pulleys i got. im actually thinking about removing two of my cats. But i had some other stuff done to it before the gearing so i might have noticed a difference if it was stock, the mods before the gearing/posi/aluminum flywheel/clutch was done i had these mods:

  • CAI, underdrivepulleys, wires, sway bars, and of course the flowmasters but on a stock single port v6 i have no idea the amount of low end tourque you might loose

  • Id like to do a head-swap..Ive heard that the winstar van had the same heads and intake manifold..is it sutible for a swap do you know? If I had to Id even bypass some emissons like egr pipe..ever heard of it being done? Winstars are in every junkyard!

The GT is a single overhead cam and the cobra motor is a dual overhead cam. Do some research before you try to act like you know something about a car you WISH you had. Anyway, it's a five oh. the same motor that was in that car when it came off the line in 67. Never rebuilt. And you know what? It's still has all the shit it had in 67.     An aluminum block engine that can last 300,000 miles of getting the shit beat out of it without a rebuild would be considered bulletproof, not a cast iron block that had to be rebuilt 4 times before it hit 300,000 miles, just stop, nobody believes that Ford motors are good, or reliable, you're wasting your time.

  • my dads ford rangers has 402350 miles on his v6 lol, from huntsville-houston texas everyday for work over the passed 9 years, guy before him drove it from dodge-houston for 5 years...never been rebuilt lol

  • 300 hp for a 4.6 v8 is pretty shitty if you think about it. Nissan makes 3.7 v6 pushing 330hp

  • Yah, too bad that's a 99+ v6. Its got the GT hood scoop. The split ports always have had fewer problems than the single ports(98 below) Sounds nice, didn't get too high pitched like most do.

  • That is a 99+. The 98 had a redline of 4800 rpm, where the 99+ split port redlined like 5200 or 5500 (I forgot which exactly), and the 98 most definitely didn't have digital odo readouts.

  • Split ports redline at 5200, but the rev limiter goes to 5800, usually with a tune peak power is up around 5600-5800

  • take of the throttle body spacer, and i bet you it will be a bit faster, but nice none the less, faster than my V6 could do

  • the 98 v6s and down sound so much meaner, the split port on the 99s an up give around 40 more hp but you loose some torque and get more of a wimpy sound

  • i have a question. how did you get the odometer to show the tac??? is it something that comes with a tuner chip? cause that is sick.

  • before u turn the key hold the trip button then start the car while holding it. dont let go until it says "test" then if u let go u can use the button to go though the engine info and such.
