From John Oates: MANEATER is a New York song. Although it's written from the male's point of view about a female, it's not about a particular girl. New York City is full of people who are biting and scratching and clawing their way to the top. The song is about people who use people.
From Daryl Hall: John had a prototype of MANEATER. It was like a reggae song I said, "Well, the chorus is interesting but I think we should change the groove." And I changed it to that Motown kind of groove. I played it for Sara and sang it for her. "Oh here she comes, watch out for she'll chew you up, oh here she comes, she's a maneater and a..."I forget what the last line was. She said "Drop that shit in the end and go 'She's a maneater' and stop! And I said, "No, you're crazy."
ya RIP preityluva.. god bless the dead.. but that doesnt explain why u left those 2 comments over a year apart that both say the same thing with a few different words.. kinda scary... and why did yall vote them up? lol
This song reminds me of my parents they died when i was 12 years old....... i still miss them now i live with my grandma and with my sister and brother R.I.P mum and dad.... :'(
@roosevelthighschool - they had a fantastic sound. This is from '82 when I was half my current age! I've playlisted all this great music by year, EVERY year back to 1900, so you can listen as if you're back in the day!

A ridiculously boring song to play on guitar (metronome anyone), but as a whole it's really catchy and genuinely enjoyable. I'm sure it's fun to jam with if you have band mates to play with. Still 80's weren't about guitars, they were about bass synth and cheesy sax. Oh and hair.
the best music was made in the 1980ties,you can talk all you want, but that is a fact, and i am happy that as a young adult(at that time anyway)i experienced every second of it,visiting concerts of all the famous bands, going to all kinds of pop festivals, man what a great time that was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cont: Then I thought about it and I realized she was right, and it made all the difference in the song.

The guy with the blonde hair (I think that's Darryl Hall) reminds me so much of Dave Coulier of TV's Full House. Thank You.

My dad used to sing this randomly when I was growing up.
I recently learned it was always about my mom. She was wild :)
I love you mommy, rest in peace.
