Its all about power to weight ratio, Ecoboost is impressive but fitted into a bloated body. The Taurus sHO is 700 heavier than a regular G37 and 500lbs heaver than an AWDG37. The SHO have only 40 hp advantage, not impressive. Having a huge torque doesn't really help the acceleration at all. Car and Driver comparison, 5.0 mustang can barely outrun a 6.0 Camaro! Mustang have higher revving engine and lighter weight.
Obviously the Ford is gonna be a bit slower on the track, its an AWD vs a RWD. RWD is always going to be superior on a track. And @l8tr597 luxury in a skyline really?? Cheap plastic maybe luxury no
biggest difference is at least your supporting your friends, family, people you live around and with, your community, and your countrymen by buying the ford, but I can hear the punk crying now "i lost my crappy job!" as he loads his shit into his foreign junk....
@l8tr597 I will buy a Ford when A) It can beat my Infiniti G37S, and B) I feel confident that I will get more compliments from driving one than my Infiniti G37S. When American engineers can outperform Japanese ones, I will buy. I promise. However, it's going to take more than the incentive of supporting my country that is failing me anyway to make the switch. Sorry. Numbers never lie.
@Rufus702 hey duffs, my FORD beats your datsun, or nissan all day long everyday, and if you like, I will beat your jap ass twice on sunday, don't pull that junk up to me, cause I don't mind smoking a little nerd now and then
@l8tr597 Your Ford what? Model and year? Modifications? etc? Also, beats me in what? Drag? Autocross? Touge? You should understand that people that own a Nissan Skyline 370GT aren't 'nerds'. We buy the car because it encompasses performance, luxury, and statement all in the same package. I can certainly assure you that my car will turn more heads than whatever Ford you drive save for the potential off chance you drive a GT.
anyone know where i can find a comparison of sho and awd 300c/charger rt? both domestic large cars, weigh near the same, close in price, awd, boast v8 power and v6 fuel consumption. it only makes sense to put the 2 against each other.
dont know anyone cross-shopping the two cars above.
why is there not a single vid of this?!
found a couple that put v6 against v6, i think both were presented by FoMoCo.
@hatebreed79 to be fair, its not fair, I really like the new challenger, going tomorrow to see about trading my 08 bullitt in, the SHO is technology driven, seems like beside the cylinder de-activation the dodges just aren't huge techi's, but with the challenger (i know u said 300 or charger) at least, may not be all hi tech, but its what it ISNT, that makes it so cool, big fat ass, overweight, but plush like older dodges, and I dare say.... out of the three, camaro ss, or stang, it looks best?
Why are people arguing rice and shit on a video like this? I am a JDM fan, but i love Ford. 1 of my top 3 favourite car companies, and im gunna stick up for it. Clearly disadvantaged to the g37 in these comparisons. Shouldve put them in some deep snow courses and see which one comes out on top. Interior and looks? Taurus all the way. g37x wouldve been a better comparison with it.. and it wouldve been about even, with the taurus being a bit quicker. The taurus is an amazing machine.
look how big the tauras is compared to the infinty... of coarse its got a disadvantage. stfu damn ricer. ill bet u think your honda is fast too dumbass. the tauras is obviously a much better car and also much more affordable.
@Rufus702 I know my stand' is faster then any japper, how come there always looking beat just because the 'BULLITT" SHOWS UP? YOUR A PUNK, AND I CAN BUY YOU OVER AND OVER, PLEASE, I LIVE IN OR AROUND HOUSTON AND CHICAGO, LETS LINE THEM UP?
@l8tr597 If you're looking to be a professional troll on youtube, you should probably make better use of spellcheck, and learn to lay off the caps. Otherwise you simply get the eFacepalm... True story.
@greddy0513 Two whole seconds? WTF are you talking about? YOU MEAN .2 SECONDS? Tard ass, LOLOLOLOLOL The price of the infinity compared to the ford pretty much shows whos better. Since i can get comparable times for way less cash. Get real, and learn some math. Maybe get out of your double wide and sell your dodge with dale JR stickers all over it and get back into school
Dont bash the SHO until you drive one. These cars were built for two completely different purposes. Terrible choice to compare the two. Both are great cars, and fun to drive
Cant decide which one I like better but since I am an "old school" Die Hard SHO fan I would have to say Taurus. Taurus (SHO) might hold its value better than the Infiniti also.
since I have kids and don't have compensation issues, I go with the SHO, The g is nice, although dickwads tend to drive inifiti's in the northeastern US. Are these even in the same price range? I thought the show was meant for bigger families, kind of like the charger R/T, for guys who have fams but need some grunt in their grocery getters.
As some here have pointed out, this is almost an apples and oranges comparison. I think both of these are great cars but I give the nod to the Taurus though because of two 'inherent advantages': 1, it's already FI... It's just a tune away from destroying the G37 (Look around on youtube) 2, it's got 4wd. 2 knocks against the SHO: It's a little big and it's a little pricey. Your choice.
Lol from the comments I've read. Nobody has realized that the Infiniti in this movie is the slightly older, less powerful G35. I believe that this model of the G35 had 300hp. The current 37 has the 330hp. Still pretty impressive all round though. For all the people out there saying they would take the ford over the Infiniti. Grow up, get a license and learn to drive. Having personally driven both car, the steering in the G37 is much sharper and connected than the fords. There is much less body
@topgearulz except that you can clearly see G37 in several of the frames. A G35 looks fairly different and would be easy to distinguish. This is certainly a 37
The braking on the Taurus is horrible! 127ft from 60 for a performance sedan? LOL...and the 4mph difference in slalom speed is huge! The ford is a boat. It has NO business on any track.
@ambientflier the taurus is over 203 inches long while the g37 is around 186. Thats more than a 16 inch difference. The taurus also has much better sound insulation and is just an all around larger car. The infiniti is smaller inside. The backseat is pretty much restricted to children only. The Taurus is also about 7 inches wider which means it can realistically fit 3 adults in the back. It also has almost twice as much cargo space in its trunk than the infiniti. Its a comfortable yet agile car.
Proof that ford is just bad technology wise... "Super High Output" my ass.... almost same displacement except its boosted and produces only 30hp more than the g37...also it is loaded with useless heavy shit and can't steer for shit. They took an overweight shit car and gave it 360hp...useless mistake and avoidable. They will likely end production soon since taurus market is mad eof people who want boring sedans, not close to 400hp cars. Not to mention this 400hp is going to waste...
The ford sho is twin turbo charged and 365 hp/350lb torque and despite it being a full size sedan it should have been equal to or a lil faster than the stock G,and if this wasn't a fair comparison then it should have been put up with an M35 which can still come close to the Sho with it's M35 body size,I would prefer the G37 it's nice looking and would get better compliments and get looked at on the streets/fwy..oh! and will be more reliable in the long run than ford =).
well, i would love to have the faster car (G37), but I'm afraid it wouldn't be shit for winter weather.....(unless it comes in AWD as well? ) The SHO might be the smartest choice if it is going to be your only car....but if you have some sort of SUV or Truck, keep it and get that G37!!!
give me the g37. any sedan that still offers a proper manual and rear drive over a slush box and awd or fwd gets my dollar any day. furthermore, for the sho being considered a "large" car it sure feels tight inside for my 6'1 frame.
the infiniti is more technologically advanced than the ford,...
the g37 has anti-crash systems, intelligent cruise contol and a nice back up camera,...
not to mention a highly-tuned suspension. i have the 2011 g37x s sedan with the high tech package, just under $60,000, canada.
i love this car and can not say anthing bad about it. i find myself keeping right up with and eventually passing, cars like the new 5.7l v8 pontiac gto's that you would expect would be much faster. point made.
@yutboon what point did u make? other than sounding like a idiot because pontiac isnt around anymore so how are there newer gtos driving around that your infiniti could supposedly keep up with although obviously its no chance, if you are refering to a 2004 to 2006 model which was originally made by holden and not pontiac btw then its not really new is it EH!
@yutboon Are you stupid? Ford/Volvo invented those systems. Collision warning with brake support? Volvo S80 was the first car to have it (Volvo was owned by Ford at the time, so Ford was paying the R&D bills), intelligent cruise control? SHO has it too, and a back up camera? Almost any car on the road nowadays has a backup camera as an option. SHO also has things like blind spot warning and radar sensors that can tell if cars are coming when you're backing out of a parking space.
i reallty dont know why everyone is saying they still would prefer the ford while a great looking car and solid value the g37 is faster stops a lot sooner and is a lot better to handle all the ford has really is more space but that to me just makes it seem more like a mom car
I like the SHO. It's got more room, same comfort, excellent ride and it's not something I'm going to take autocrossing or to the track for more than one day. I'd track day the car just to see what it feels like and how it responds. Other than that I'd be riding in a very nice spacious smooth car.
I really like both, how much more is the G37 vs the taurus though?, hell for the price difference you could probably get a tune and exhaust for the taurus and make it just as fast, maybe faster, but i will say that G37 sounds fucking amazing!!
@ambientflier For the price of a fully loaded Ford Taurus at around $45,190, you can easily expand your list of cars in the same price bracket however in an entirely different segment. The BMW 335i, Infiniti G37, Mercedes C350, Lexus IS350, Audi A4, Audi A6, BMW 528i come in significantly less or on par with the Ford Taurus. Personally I would never pay that much for a Taurus let alone a Ford... PERIOD.
Taurus .. at 500 lbs more weight... ??? some comparison.
guess it all comes down to the next owner 7 years down the road when the poor SOB has to take out a small loan to cover the new exhaust and muffler he needs on the G-37, found out the hard way myself years ago when I bought a probe with the jap drive train... the american probe parts were 50% less... painful lesson.
@redifreddy14 lol exhaust is cheap thats just dumb :P but you are right about those probes my dad bought an auto with a hitch between first and second and while it got great gas mileage that tranny was garbage. not a bads car just needs the manual tranny i think
@wtfyourafuckindoosh complete exhaust on the Jap Probe was 1200.-- and that was 20 years ago.. while the AMerican Probe exhasut was 500.-- painful personal experience.. and Jap models of anything ... once you get into parts replacement ..you be in the land of hurt
@redifreddy14 you cant be serious... there is no "jap" probe and american probe. they were made in conjunction between mazda and ford. the mx-6 was the cassis wrappen in mazda sheet metal while the probe was fords... hell your lucky they didnt do what they almost did and take the mustang name and put it on what became the probe. then all the mustang fanboys wouldnt have shit to cry over but a defunct fwd pile
I think the more appropriate comparison should have been a Taurus vs Maxima. Otherwise they might as well compare it to miata. G is not only about the power but also about sportiness and refinement. I think a lot of people are over-obsessed about the power.
Car to car this comparison is absurd - especially the testing of brakes and going around the cones.
But the Ford Ecoboost engine deserves serious consideration for it's power, torque delivery and fuel efficiency vs Nissan's "end of the line" mill.
Put the Ford engine in a smaller lighter really sporty car and it will obliterate the G. In day to day driving you would have to barely push the throttle on the Ford to get the power, whereas the VQ37VHR has to be spun high to get max torque.
@dancheb "Put the Ford engine in a smaller lighter really sporty car and it will obliterate the G." No shit, sherlock. Put twin turbos on the G37 motor and it will really obliterate the smaller and lighter car with the ecoboost engine.
@ambientflier: So why don't they do it if it's so easy?? And what about the heat issues in the existing engine? And what will be the mileage? And what is the point of your post??? Ford developed a great engine with great MPG and great power and is putting this technology across the range of it's cars as of RIGHT NOW. Nissan is trailing behind BMW and now FORD in terms of engine power that is a fact. Doesn't make Taurus a better car than G. And you are just spewing steam...
@dancheb They did do it. it just happens to be on a much more expensive car, the GTR. Why does it matter if Infiniti is trailing behind ford in maximum output when it's still faster?? I'd rather buy a car from a company that pushes the envelope of technology and make a naturally aspirated V6 with 330hp that's a joy to rev out versus a company that barely gets 365hp from two turbos and about the same displacement.
@ambientflier: Why Nissan did not start implementing deturned variants of it's TT GTR engine in infiniti lineup? And I couldn't care less about the car to car comparison of essentially FWD large sedan vs high performance luxury car. And there is way more to Ford engine than just 35 HP. It has 350 lb-ft of torque vs G's 270. And those 270 lb-ft arrive at 5,200 rpm whereas the Ecoboost develops its 350 lb-ft at just 1500 RPM. I want Nissan to give that kind of power to G.
@IgotMy30inActionSack If you think the infiniti looks like an old civic, you need glasses. And I'd imagine all the people that buy them want them, because I see them all over.
@ambientflier Quit sucking the car's dick. It doesn't love you anymore. get a life instead of launching attack comments at anyone who has a different opinion than you. you're pathetic.
The SHO is such a fat pig. It's too big, too heavy, too tall, and doesn't really have much of a place in today's market. A G37 is a refined, well-engineered, luxurious, better-performing automobile. It's not even close, especially once you drive both cars. The Taurus feels like a lumbering POS with lots of power, while the G37 feels like somebody put some emotion into the car.
@hartsickdisciple hahahahaha doesnt have a place in the market? Sells alot better than the G37 actually at about a 3:1 ratio. Andd huh, if it is too big and too heavy and too tall, then why doesnt the G37 leave it behind? The SHO just feeels like an incredibly built Ford. I would never have expected any of these gorgeous cars to come from Ford. But dude, a ittle respect. Seriously.
@ACWAirsoftChannel Sells at a 3:1 ratio versus the G37? Are you talking about the base taurus that every grandma and grandpa drive or the sho? Thought so...
@ambientflier Nah im talking about the SHO. And what did you think so? That i actually provided evidence on the subject? Yes a 3:1 Ratio...that is...if you even know what a ratio is..
@marriedncute Yes...because an all wheel drive ford that weighs a shitload with an automatic transmission is supposed to spin all 4 wheels like crazy, right? You're an idiot.
@ambientflier u are dumber than I could have imagined. first off, the all wheel drive only accounts for tire squeal at the line. intelligence takes some thought. surprising, i know. Sorry to burst your bubble, but the ford isn't that heavy. Yes it's heavier than the g37, cause unlike the Ford, the g37 is not a full-size car. Some dumb asses shouldn't even be allowed to comment. The fact that you're gay enough to personally attack me because of your stupidity only further proves my point.
@ambientflier My point is that they aren't testing them as well as MotorTrend. Im not saying the Taurus is faster. Its obviously wayy bigger and more spacious.
@jeepluv76 Lol, do you honestly think that the ford is going to be cheaper to fix, with an unproven new twin turbo engine and all wheel drive versus the rwd n/a infiniti with an engine that's been around for years? Lol...the sho is going to break down first, buddy.
@ambient flyer Well I guess only time will tell however I am going to stick to my claim a Japanese luxury vs an American car marketed at entry level luxury I will take my chances with the ford. Plus Ford has videos posted of the new 3.5 Eco Boost V6 being put through multiple challenges and the 3.5 passes each one. As far as the all wheel drive Ford does make 4x4 vehicles so its not like it is there first time making an all-wheel drive system.
@ambientflier...that "Unproven engine" is no different than the 96 taurus came out with in the 3.0L DOHC form..its a mazda engine that's been beefed up and put at 3.5L with very very stout internals. as for the turbo system its not rocket science to pipe it in and they are using great turbos on it. so to just assume its going to fail is hillarious...while the nissan engines are having sensor and timing chain tensioner issues like crazy...but its a import so i guess it's automatically perfect. HA
How is this not a fair comparison? They both start around $35-40k, four door, performance sedans. They are not clones, but two ways of getting to the same result is kinda the point.
HAHAHA...Rusty crusty steel?...sure is funny the shop I work at along with many of my friends that work a various shops find that your awesome imports rust together and fall apart at the seams...every tried aligning a 5 year old honda?...the rear cambolts almost always are froze up...and If im not mistaken Infinity is a division of nissan right?...ever tried to take a front lower control arm out of a X-terra? the torsion bar bolt after only 2 years will be siezed...all cars are crap anymore.
the SHO's launches were the softest i think i've ever seen outside of a stoplight. the guy in that SHO walked his way into the pedal...come oooon *new york accent*
@leschampagnes1 The G37 does, which slows it down ! The G37x has the same engine and transmission but doesn't have that initial wheelspin which slows down it's rwd counterpart off the line !
People keep dogging on InsideLine for their comparisons but you don't get it. They know that these cars are in different classes and market segments. But it makes sense to lineup new cars like the SHO against industry icons like the Infiniti G just to see what they are really made of.
The Infiniti was better in every category but the Taurus looks better and is just different. I'd pick it for sure.
@TacoManTuesday dude have you not seen what they put into that SHO? it has EVERYTHING that you would find in the far more expensive cars like lambos and ferraris... the only difference is the seats are italian leather in those cars which is pretty damn pointless since its just expensive leather... so dont go callin ford a downgraded version
as an infiniti technician i had the opportunity to drive an SHO today since someone had just traded in their 2010 SHO for a G37 coupe. I must say it felt really solid at speed and on the highway it went from 60-90 with a simple push of the throttle. and it was suprisingly very stable at speed. very BMW like i must say. but when u compare interiors thats when the inifiti draws the line. for a 45k the ford interior is cheap plastic junk for the most part.
Some of you guys are just goobers, just buy what you like. My opinion? Both of these are fine cars but my one major gripe is the price.. particularly with the SHO. As far as performance? It's obvious these cars are similar but when it comes to modding? The SHO is the obvious winner. With F/I already on board it's just a tune away from some nutty numbers.. Look around if you don't believe me. Take a chill pill and be glad we have a great selection of cars to choose from.
@SirtubalotTX, logic turned on its head...SHO w. F/I already IS modded...not much more room there. Drop a sc or turbo into a G37 and it'll run 0-60 into the mid-low 4's! And there's a world more mods for the Infinity than the SHO which few take seriously as having real potential.
@Snookynibbles This SHO is -stock-. With just a tune these SHOs will run 4s to 60 and 12s in the quarter. How much money would it take to turbo or SC the Infinity? Do you understand what's going on here? Elborate more if you like but I'd make sure you have your facts lined up.
@SirtubalotTX, yes, "what's going on" is that it takes FI on a SHO to achieve what a NA engine to achieve...$ of mods is immaerial, the point is the Infinity has more potential since FI will enable the car to produce far higher numbers than 'tweaking' an already boosted SHO. there's this thing called 'detoniation/pre-ignition'...there's limits to how much more a SHO can achieve, but to a NA, Infinity, the gains will be much higher..."that's undestanding what's going on."
@Snookynibbles No so fast snookikiins... How much money do you think it would take to get the G37 to run 12's in the quarter? Seriously.. and I ask again.. do you know what's going on here? (Yes, I am being a smart ass) Like I said.. both of these are fine cars but I stand by what I said. The SHO already has FI on board and that might not mean anything to you but it does to me and a bunch of other folks.
The G37 is a mid size sedan, Taurus is full size, weighing over 500 more whopping pounds.
And the Taurus still kept up.
Honestly, I'd much rather take the Taurus. It's a lot more technological, spacious, comfortable, and still damn quick for a sedan. It was only fractions of a second off for track times.
@WretchedDrake then how is it fair to put a twin turbo vs a naturally aspirated? the ford is garbage just like most american cars. all they ever do is put a shit load of power and never have any handling braking or build quality.
@hasib223 You mad that American cars are competing globally now? Ford has a strong foothold in Europe and the rest of the world, so obviously Ford isn't garbage or else they would have gone bankrupt like Government Motors and Chrysler
@WretchedDrake The taurus ALMOST kept up because it had more hp and WAY more torque than the infiniti, and also the awd, while the G37 spun its tires. For an n/a V6 sedan, the G absolutely rocks.
I agree that it doesn't seem like a fair comparison. The G is a much smaller, more nimble car. I would however take the G anyday over the taurus. I'm not feeling that fat backside. I wonder if a cheeseburger holder is build in the armrest. Clearly, the taurus is tailored for large Americans.
@chigasaki06 Yeah there's no denying it's got a fat ass, but unless you actually sit inside the Taurus and see for yourself, I don't think you can comprehend just how much more space there is inside.
I love having more control with a nimble car, but the Taurus is not something you are going to be sliding around. It's just for comfort with HUUUUGE space inside and decent straight line speed.
@WretchedDrake It's a twin turbo 3.5. The fuckign G37 is a naturally aspirated 3.7 V6. How much of a difference do you think 0.2 of a litre is supposed to make? None. The fact that it kept up is not impressive. The fact that it lost is worth noting.
@519Garage In case you haven't read anything I fucking said, the Taurus is a mammoth compared to the G37. It's a fat ass pig of a car with a TT engine, it's not like it's gonna outrun a lighter and more nimble car on the road with similar power.
The fact that despite a huge weight disadvantage it still kept up is worth noting.
They should have tested the Infiniti M against the Ford Taurus that would have been fair in size and speed. But the Taurus did very well against the G37 considering it was a G37.
Also, as stated (though you little fanboy's are too stupid to look it up) C&D used a SHO with the "performance pack" to do their test runs... and ran a 13.7@103 MPH... so much for the G37.
So its got more trunk space, more interior room, its more comfortable, has more options, twin turbos, and is MUCH more easy to mod, costs less pound for pound (order a 37x with AWD) and with the right things checked on the order sheet outruns the punk ass nissan. You loose.
Cds numbers are always quicker for every car than insideline. According to CD G37 runs 1/4 mile in 13.6 seconds and thats without a gay "performance pack" hahahah faggot.
@testy462 Car and Driver got a 13.7 out of their SHO with performance pack? Hmm...did you know that Motortrend got a 13.5 out of their G37 sedan with an auto? Lol...ford still gets beat and costs more. YOU lose.
@trailbikerharo...r u serious, the sho was originally designed to be a performance car not a luxury car and it fails to outshine the G37 in either one of these categories!
@ambientflier Hello fanboy, no, sadly I wouldn't. Maybe the guys over at Automobile and Motortrend could? I mean, they've got some idea of how its done.
hey dick heads edmunds you stupid fucktards... the sho is almost a thousand pnds heavier than. every time you do something on ford it loses it seems. your soo jealous of fords you cant stand it. you always put another vehicle up against ford with some outstanding uneven quality that makes a world of difference.
@trailbikerharo And whose fault is it that the ford is so much heavier??? Yeah, it's a larger car, but it weighs more than a Chrysler 300! That's ridiculous. I seriously doubt that anyone, especially a car mag, is jealous of a ford. That's stupid.
@ambientflier hey amient assflier. im sure if ford wanted to compromise the awsome ride and luxury the sho has. they would make a taurus that could easily kick this little cars assola. but they still have a car here that has some woomp and style and luxury. its basically a family car that has power. so it doesnt make sense to do this comparison.
G37 Longitudinal mounted V6 with rear drive base over SHO Transverse mounted V6 with front drive base any day of the week. Look at BMW, a true driving machine, few can dispute that - all BMW's are rear drive. I've read that the AWD SHO handles very similarly to the FWD show. Tell Ford to provide a proper drivetrain, then we'll revisit this otherwise, G is 1.
Not to mention that everyone else manages a 13.80 to 13.50 with this car, and that the tested car here does NOT have the SHO performance pack, which among other things includes a more aggressive ratio on the front/rear axle.
Simply put, a handheld tuner will have no negative effects, and even in stock form your punk ass 07 G35 would have its ass handed to it by the new SHO. The new 37 in stock form is nearly identical in every performance way to the SHO, close enough to make each of the comparisons a drivers race, while offering less creature comforts and smaller interior room etc etc.
For 10 grand less, you get a better made, more comfortable AMERICAN car that can be easily and cheaply modified if you choose.

Wow the Taurus got his butt handed to him!!!

Obviously the Ford is gonna be a bit slower on the track, its an AWD vs a RWD. RWD is always going to be superior on a track. And @l8tr597 luxury in a skyline really?? Cheap plastic maybe luxury no

The braking on the Taurus is horrible! 127ft from 60 for a performance sedan? LOL...and the 4mph difference in slalom speed is huge! The ford is a boat. It has NO business on any track.
ambientflier 5 months ago

The ford sho is twin turbo charged and 365 hp/350lb torque and despite it being a full size sedan it should have been equal to or a lil faster than the stock G,and if this wasn't a fair comparison then it should have been put up with an M35 which can still come close to the Sho with it's M35 body size,I would prefer the G37 it's nice looking and would get better compliments and get looked at on the streets/fwy..oh! and will be more reliable in the long run than ford =).

the infiniti is more technologically advanced than the ford,...
the g37 has anti-crash systems, intelligent cruise contol and a nice back up camera,...
not to mention a highly-tuned suspension. i have the 2011 g37x s sedan with the high tech package, just under $60,000, canada.
i love this car and can not say anthing bad about it. i find myself keeping right up with and eventually passing, cars like the new 5.7l v8 pontiac gto's that you would expect would be much faster. point made.
yutboon 6 months ago

SHO also has things like blind spot warning and radar sensors that can tell if cars are coming when you're backing out of a parking space.

xcrazywhiteboyx73 7 months ago
I like the SHO. It's got more room, same comfort, excellent ride and it's not something I'm going to take autocrossing or to the track for more than one day. I'd track day the car just to see what it feels like and how it responds. Other than that I'd be riding in a very nice spacious smooth car.
Cre8Thought41 7 months ago

@ambientflier For the price of a fully loaded Ford Taurus at around $45,190, you can easily expand your list of cars in the same price bracket however in an entirely different segment. The BMW 335i, Infiniti G37, Mercedes C350, Lexus IS350, Audi A4, Audi A6, BMW 528i come in significantly less or on par with the Ford Taurus. Personally I would never pay that much for a Taurus let alone a Ford... PERIOD.

guess it all comes down to the next owner 7 years down the road when the poor SOB has to take out a small loan to cover the new exhaust and muffler he needs on the G-37, found out the hard way myself years ago when I bought a probe with the jap drive train... the american probe parts were 50% less... painful lesson.

wtfyourafuckindoosh 7 months ago
I think the more appropriate comparison should have been a Taurus vs Maxima. Otherwise they might as well compare it to miata. G is not only about the power but also about sportiness and refinement. I think a lot of people are over-obsessed about the power.
dancheb 7 months ago
Stupid comparison--small mid sized car compared to a large car. Rather have the SHO Taurus for the money any day
ginsure 7 months ago
Car to car this comparison is absurd - especially the testing of brakes and going around the cones.
But the Ford Ecoboost engine deserves serious consideration for it's power, torque delivery and fuel efficiency vs Nissan's "end of the line" mill.
Put the Ford engine in a smaller lighter really sporty car and it will obliterate the G. In day to day driving you would have to barely push the throttle on the Ford to get the power, whereas the VQ37VHR has to be spun high to get max torque.
dancheb 7 months ago
@dancheb "Put the Ford engine in a smaller lighter really sporty car and it will obliterate the G." No shit, sherlock. Put twin turbos on the G37 motor and it will really obliterate the smaller and lighter car with the ecoboost engine.
ambientflier 7 months ago
@ambientflier: So why don't they do it if it's so easy?? And what about the heat issues in the existing engine? And what will be the mileage? And what is the point of your post??? Ford developed a great engine with great MPG and great power and is putting this technology across the range of it's cars as of RIGHT NOW. Nissan is trailing behind BMW and now FORD in terms of engine power that is a fact. Doesn't make Taurus a better car than G. And you are just spewing steam...
dancheb 7 months ago
@dancheb They did do it. it just happens to be on a much more expensive car, the GTR. Why does it matter if Infiniti is trailing behind ford in maximum output when it's still faster?? I'd rather buy a car from a company that pushes the envelope of technology and make a naturally aspirated V6 with 330hp that's a joy to rev out versus a company that barely gets 365hp from two turbos and about the same displacement.
ambientflier 7 months ago
@ambientflier: Why Nissan did not start implementing deturned variants of it's TT GTR engine in infiniti lineup? And I couldn't care less about the car to car comparison of essentially FWD large sedan vs high performance luxury car. And there is way more to Ford engine than just 35 HP. It has 350 lb-ft of torque vs G's 270. And those 270 lb-ft arrive at 5,200 rpm whereas the Ecoboost develops its 350 lb-ft at just 1500 RPM. I want Nissan to give that kind of power to G.
dancheb 7 months ago

The SHO is such a fat pig. It's too big, too heavy, too tall, and doesn't really have much of a place in today's market. A G37 is a refined, well-engineered, luxurious, better-performing automobile. It's not even close, especially once you drive both cars. The Taurus feels like a lumbering POS with lots of power, while the G37 feels like somebody put some emotion into the car.
hartsickdisciple 8 months ago
@hartsickdisciple hahahahaha doesnt have a place in the market? Sells alot better than the G37 actually at about a 3:1 ratio. Andd huh, if it is too big and too heavy and too tall, then why doesnt the G37 leave it behind? The SHO just feeels like an incredibly built Ford. I would never have expected any of these gorgeous cars to come from Ford. But dude, a ittle respect. Seriously.

jeepluv76 8 months ago
@jeepluv76 Lol, do you honestly think that the ford is going to be cheaper to fix, with an unproven new twin turbo engine and all wheel drive versus the rwd n/a infiniti with an engine that's been around for years? Lol...the sho is going to break down first, buddy.
ambientflier 7 months ago
@ambient flyer Well I guess only time will tell however I am going to stick to my claim a Japanese luxury vs an American car marketed at entry level luxury I will take my chances with the ford. Plus Ford has videos posted of the new 3.5 Eco Boost V6 being put through multiple challenges and the 3.5 passes each one. As far as the all wheel drive Ford does make 4x4 vehicles so its not like it is there first time making an all-wheel drive system.
jeepluv76 7 months ago
@ambientflier...that "Unproven engine" is no different than the 96 taurus came out with in the 3.0L DOHC form..its a mazda engine that's been beefed up and put at 3.5L with very very stout internals. as for the turbo system its not rocket science to pipe it in and they are using great turbos on it. so to just assume its going to fail is hillarious...while the nissan engines are having sensor and timing chain tensioner issues like crazy...but its a import so i guess it's automatically perfect. as an infiniti technician i had the opportunity to drive an SHO today since someone had just traded in their 2010 SHO for a G37 coupe.
14words2liveby 9 months ago
Some of you guys are just goobers, just buy what you like. My opinion? Both of these are fine cars but my one major gripe is the price.. particularly with the SHO. As far as performance? It's obvious these cars are similar but when it comes to modding? The SHO is the obvious winner. With F/I already on board it's just a tune away from some nutty numbers.. Look around if you don't believe me. Take a chill pill and be glad we have a great selection of cars to choose from.
SirtubalotTX 9 months ago 21
@SirtubalotTX, logic turned on its head...SHO w. F/I already IS modded...not much more room there. Drop a sc or turbo into a G37 and it'll run 0-60 into the mid-low 4's! And there's a world more mods for the Infinity than the SHO which few take seriously as having real potential.
Snookynibbles 5 months ago
@Snookynibbles This SHO is -stock-. With just a tune these SHOs will run 4s to 60 and 12s in the quarter. How much money would it take to turbo or SC the Infinity? Do you understand what's going on here? Elborate more if you like but I'd make sure you have your facts lined up.
SirtubalotTX 5 months ago
@SirtubalotTX, yes, "what's going on" is that it takes FI on a SHO to achieve what a NA engine to achieve...$ of mods is immaerial, the point is the Infinity has more potential since FI will enable the car to produce far higher numbers than 'tweaking' an already boosted SHO. there's this thing called 'detoniation/pre-ignition'...there's limits to how much more a SHO can achieve, but to a NA, Infinity, the gains will be much higher..."that's undestanding what's going on."
Snookynibbles 3 months ago
@Snookynibbles No so fast snookikiins... How much money do you think it would take to get the G37 to run 12's in the quarter? Seriously.. and I ask again.. do you know what's going on here? (Yes, I am being a smart ass) Like I said.. both of these are fine cars but I stand by what I said. The SHO already has FI on board and that might not mean anything to you but it does to me and a bunch of other folks.
SirtubalotTX 3 months ago
How is this a fair comparison?
The G37 is a mid size sedan, Taurus is full size, weighing over 500 more whopping pounds.
And the Taurus still kept up.
Honestly, I'd much rather take the Taurus. It's a lot more technological, spacious, comfortable, and still damn quick for a sedan. It was only fractions of a second off for track times.
WretchedDrake 10 months ago 49
@WretchedDrake then how is it fair to put a twin turbo vs a naturally aspirated? the ford is garbage just like most american cars. all they ever do is put a shit load of power and never have any handling braking or build quality.
hasib223 8 months ago
@hasib223 You mad that American cars are competing globally now? Ford has a strong foothold in Europe and the rest of the world, so obviously Ford isn't garbage or else they would have gone bankrupt like Government Motors and Chrysler

I agree that it doesn't seem like a fair comparison. The G is a much smaller, more nimble car. I would however take the G anyday over the taurus. I'm not feeling that fat backside. I wonder if a cheeseburger holder is build in the armrest. Clearly, the taurus is tailored for large Americans.
chigasaki06 7 months ago
@chigasaki06 Yeah there's no denying it's got a fat ass, but unless you actually sit inside the Taurus and see for yourself, I don't think you can comprehend just how much more space there is inside.
I love having more control with a nimble car, but the Taurus is not something you are going to be sliding around. It's just for comfort with HUUUUGE space inside and decent straight line speed.

@WretchedDrake taurus has more hp

519Garage 5 months ago

You loose.
testy462 10 months ago
@testy462
Cds numbers are always quicker for every car than insideline. According to CD G37 runs 1/4 mile in 13.6 seconds and thats without a gay "performance pack" hahahah faggot.
BearsDkills 10 months ago
@testy462 Car and Driver got a 13.7 out of their SHO with performance pack? Hmm...did you know that Motortrend got a 13.5 out of their G37 sedan with an auto? Lol...ford still gets beat and costs more. YOU lose.
ambientflier 10 months ago
@trailbikerharo...r u serious, the sho was originally designed to be a performance car not a luxury car and it fails to outshine the G37 in either one of these categories!
MrPoolplayer1 10 months ago
@ambientflier Hello fanboy, no, sadly I wouldn't. Maybe the guys over at Automobile and Motortrend could? I mean, they've got some idea of how its done.
CARFANATIC552 10 months ago
hey dick heads edmunds you stupid fucktards... the sho is almost a thousand pnds heavier than. every time you do something on ford it loses it seems. your soo jealous of fords you cant stand it. you always put another vehicle up against ford with some outstanding uneven quality that makes a world of difference.
trailbikerharo 10 months ago
@trailbikerharo And whose fault is it that the ford is so much heavier??? Yeah, it's a larger car, but it weighs more than a Chrysler 300! That's ridiculous. I seriously doubt that anyone, especially a car mag, is jealous of a ford. That's stupid.
ambientflier 10 months ago
@ambientflier hey amient assflier. im sure if ford wanted to compromise the awsome ride and luxury the sho has. they would make a taurus that could easily kick this little cars assola. but they still have a car here that has some woomp and style and luxury. its basically a family car that has power. so it doesnt make sense to do this comparison.
trailbikerharo 10 months ago
@trailbikerharo So you're saying a G37 isn't a luxurious family car with some power and a good ride?
ambientflier 10 months ago
G37 Longitudinal mounted V6 with rear drive base over SHO Transverse mounted V6 with front drive base any day of the week. Look at BMW, a true driving machine, few can dispute that - all BMW's are rear drive. I've read that the AWD SHO handles very similarly to the FWD show. Tell Ford to provide a proper drivetrain, then we'll revisit this otherwise, G is 1.
mazermadness 10 months ago
Not to mention that everyone else manages a 13.80 to 13.50 with this car, and that the tested car here does NOT have the SHO performance pack, which among other things includes a more aggressive ratio on the front/rear axle.

@CARFANATIC552 Would you like to teach us how to launch an awd automatic family car then, genius? Neutral drop, right??

The next gen Walrus will become the new Falcon and that's a huge mistake by Ford.
