@charleymusic macs are very good indeed, logic pro is a highly recommend programme to try get yourself. off a torrent site if you don't want/can't pay for the ridiculous price they charge, and for a cheap usb microphone i recommend a samsung g-track, they are so easy to use and really well built and sound great :) i started with one of them and built my own studio in the end :)
