  • @fcmilsweeper9 & @phantomregiment1227 .........

    shut up.

  • So, you just improved my grade on a music test.

  • @NickaElizabeth Nice, I think. How so?

  • Dude, you had a captive audience at the beginning, and you captivated them by the end. WELL DONE!. The great part about percussion is breaking the rules, then convincing the rest of the population you're correct. You accomplished that. Outstanding.

  • my favorite part starts at 4:19

  • nigger

  • @setnewer yea because racism is a good way to get respect, kiddie >_>

  • for so many rolls he sure is using the wrong type of mallets...only professional performers can truly use articulation mallets like those and pull off good non choppy rolls.

  • First minute or so was extremely boring. And I'm not a timpani expert I haven't played that long but my timpani teacher who's in the reading symphony would prob find like 30 mistakes in what u did.

  • Looks easy. Is it as easy as it looks?

  • This is sicker than the 70s............the 1870s, that is. ;p

  • Long Live Shaun Rodgers,The Coo Raga Dude!Drumrolls,Please!Give us more of these!A good malett would be Regal Tip's Famous Blast EX,the drumsticks with mallet at one end and normal stick on the other.Great Solo-Try that on the Mark VII Logo! Thanks,Brainy at BMSS

  • Nice man! Hey what level is this?

  • @babyboy478 What do you mean. I'd figure it's at least a 5 on the 1-6 scale, but I really don't know. I played it Junior Year of high school and at my senior recital at the University of Maryland. I've been told it's a good Senior/Graduate level piece when played the right way.

  • @ShaunRodgers

Well if it's Sr/Grad level piece then it's between 4-6 lol... Good job though!

  • i am not a timpani player but from my drumming experience you should make your rolls less like obvious per se make it so you cant actually hear the l r l r but a pitch.

  • I dig it. =)

  • ultra-stacado mallets?

  • I agree that there are too many negative comments. I use this vid to help my own timpani roll. Screw those other folks, I mean you coming out and playing some chops that get the mind groovin' is awesome. UROCK.

  • try not to play with your mouth open the whole.....

  • I don't get why there are so many hater comments. I thought it was really good.

  • @tenniscrazy2 thanks

  • @tenniscrazy2 I see, there are so many hater comments, but there are many human to thumbs up this video.

  • where did you find the music for this??

  • @seltzerdka my teacher in high school had a book of timpani solos by Bill Cahn. I think there were like 7 or 8 solos. Raga no. 1 was in there too

  • :0(

  • dudes don't call it rolls.

on timpani you don't use any rolls its just a tremolo

  • timpani use a single stroke roll. technically it is still a roll

  • ok then.

its just that in my country we call it tremolo & roll is on the snare.

  • i personally thought it was amazing.

  • softer mallets!!!!!!!! otherwise good

  • Use some softer mallets on the roll section. I'm not going to lie, I heard a lot of rims. Focus on being even when moving around and work on your fundamental sound quality.

  • Your rolls are VERY staccato and kind of...yuck. Maybe its the mallets or the camera but I think you were playing way to close to the edge at the beginning.

  • Your playing isn't very accurate or precise, but you have potential. You're probably a lot better now of course.

  • u look older haha anyway thats pretty cool dude

  • wow, all of these comments are awful.

i thought you did pretty well for 15.

  • my god...it truely is amazing how the timpanis or whatever sound exactly the same.

  • i've never seen anyone playing timpani with hands. that's pretty cool:)

  • great musician, great coordination ! BRAVO !

  • OH SHIT! its shaq's drum kit!

  • This is pretty good I think. I had this video playing when doing some searches on musical instruments.

  • This is really good I play the Cello, Bass guitar, the guitar, the piano, and the drums

  • Comment removed

  • ahahahahah kaste u got own lmao ahahahaha

  • not really..

  • Comment removed

  • The audio is funny man, i hear the sound before you even hit the timpani haha

  • now who is the one with prejudice...

  • ADD this code at the end of the address bar on this video "&fmt=18" it makes the quality better. hes actually pretty good.

  • thanks

  • i did this when i was 15.

  • sorry i accidentally removed your reply. in that case, thank you, and i thought similar about the comment. im at a better music school than purdue currently anyway

  • btw, love the clothes, gotta get myself an outfit like that

  • what notes are used?

  • low to high- F, B, C#, F

  • thanks

are those tuned by foot pedal, or other means?

i like the foot pedal tuning better

ive heard of other ways though, like a tom drum

    XD

i say again, thanks. ill play this at school or something

    XD

  • nice job man, i think it's all pretty good apart from the sound on the top timp, i think you play a little to far in to the skin and makes sound a bit more like just a drum, i'm sure you knw how to alter that so i won't bother. i like the hand playing aswell, flows nicely.

  • im not saying anything derogatory but why are you dressed like that?

  • no real reason, i like to stand out i guess

  • well you certanly do.congrats on this preformance. nice job

  • i didnt enjoy any of that.

  • that guy looks really gay

  • Yo! This is not music! WTF!!! You play the drums, not timpani! Learn to phrase and learn to roll!!!

  • you don't roll like you do on a snare drum on a timpani dumbass... you do single stroke rolls

  • i know you fucking cunt! Rolls indicates all types of different rolls, french, american, german etc. Im just telling him that he needs to practice his rolls (single strokes) so it doesnt sound like a fucking rock-drumkit!!!!

  • it isnt nessescerly used for rock but it can be...and it blends in pretty well but not by itself its just rythem kinda annoying alone =)

  • CUNT SHIT BITCH FUCK NIGGER

Yeah, I can cuss and spaz too.

  • i love how the timani sounds, but no by it's self for too long. i'm sorry but it gets boaring and dull after like 20 bars by it's self, but it adds alot of power to a song if used right.

  • haha y thats nice... i also laughed about this style...

  • y ok this is true... but i dont like the american style of playing timpani. they play it like percussion and it sounds like tomtom.

  • "it sounds like a tomtom" its actually just called a tom or the lowest sounding tom is called the floor tom.

  • y the american style of playing timpani.... im student in germany for timpani und percussion and we all are laughing about the american style. in germany we use calfskins and ringer timpani and not this and we have a totally different playstyle, cause we make a big difference between percussion and timpani. all in all i hate this american style cause the timpani sounds like a tomtom.

  • calfskins are impossible to care for at a high school. these timpani are much cheaper and more durible for any conditions. a lot of major US symphonies use calfskin heads becuase they can be climate controled and dont have to move much. its mostly about cost. ringer timpani and calfskin heads are expensive, and not worth buying to let a bunch of inexperienced kids bang on.

  • Just cause you suck at timpani, and you don't actually play percussion, doesn't mean you have to be stereotypical about all of us "American Timpani Players." You're a ridiculous piece of work, Many timpani parts require our cheaper louder, more sticatto-ey timpani, such as Marching Band, your not gonna see some kids roll out a calfskin Timpani set to play for agressive marching music. Different styles, Different Timpani Needs. So Shut Up.

  • xDD i dont suck at timpani thats my best instrument... i also can play all the percussin instruments... i only make by playing timpani and percussion. I hold my timpanimallets totally different then my snaredrum sticks or my xylofonmallets. and we also play on plastic skin but our style of timpani playing (german style) sounds much better then the american style. i know what im talking about cause im student in a university for timpani and percussion.

  • yea and george clooney my daddy :D

ill belive it wen i see it if u dont have a vid of u playing an instrument wat right do u have to flame som1 else

  • nice, you should do the george of the jungle theme on the timpani :]

  • I'm a guitarist and I unfortunately don't know much about percussion and drum terminology or repertoire...but I like timpani and this is really cool.

  • great job but i HATE those heads

  • I'm working on this for a solo. you did really good! keep going!

  • very well done! most impressive.

  • My friend did this in EIGHTH GRADE.. and got a superior.. FREAKING INSANE RIGHT? Hes only in 10th right now.. He made it into the FREAKING AMERICAN HONORS BAND... hes freaking crazy good.

  • nice. i made it in the honor orchestra of america but as a senior. that is crazy good- i know a graduate student at university of michigan who played this

  • Yea hes amazing... I think he might practice IN HIS SLEEP..lol... He takes lessons from beth gottlieb. I dont know if you know who she is but shes an AMAZING Marimbist and married to Danny Gottlieb, an AMAZING set player.

  • My guitar synth has a patch called timpani, so I had to look it up, it's really cool.

  • @maddmatt361 8th grade is pretty ridiculous. I did the Honor Orchestra of America which is the Orchestra version of what you're talking about. It was a really cool experience.

  • impressive.. but seriously, whats with the outfit..

  • I like your dress sense

  • Nice work! Awesome performance! Great musicality overall

  • dose drums r expsensive!!!!

  • What's the matter? Got drum envy? lol

  • dude you are fuckin hilarious

  • im playing that song for band!!!!

    are you having trouble?

and if you find a person who plays it on a vid could you reply!

    or just even the music!

  • Great musician and nice suite too

    :D

  • pure amazingness

  • pff roger taylor is best

  • i agree with williscool. you can't just look at a percussionist, slap your head and say 'that's EASSEEE! anyone could do DAT!?!' it aint true. even something as 'simple' as a tambourine recquires the right timing and fills to really do the job.

  • @namejimmy lol tambourine is hard as balls if you ask me....

  • Masz aparat jak stary bębniarz ;p

  • Honestly, it doesn't look like it requires a great deal of knowledge or skill - someone care to correct me?

  • Coordination is the name of the game!

  • you dont see the the pedals when you play it 1. you stand up2. you have to have fast feet and he does make it look very very easy

  • Playing any instrument always offers a good challenge. Percussion requires a large amount of practice to acquire the appropriate skill and knowledge to play the instrument well! Most percussion instruments look extraordinarily easy from an uneducated observer. Trust me, there are a lot of special techniques used to play any of these instruments. What you don't realize is the amount of practice percussionists put into playing their instruments with talent!

  • It's a drum with pitches for God sake. OF course it takes skill. Especially when soloing.

  • I'm guessing you're not a percussionist. I'll try to help you out. If you went out there and just banged on the drums, you would look like a moron

1.Timpani includes tuning something with a bunch of overtones

2.The harder you hit the drum the flatter the sound, so adjustments are crucial

3.if you hit the wrong spot, it sounds like $#!+

4.I could go on but look at how much this guy is multitasking. To do all of that and make it into something more than hitting drums is amazing

    try it one time

  • high five

  • What Timpani are you using? Adams Symphonic Timpani?

  • lol yes. its the Adams timpani. I am in a school band and the timpani is excactly the same im using in the band

  • It was cool, but you looked like you were going to fall asleep with your mouth open like that.

  • It's a drummer thing.

...so a drummer walks into a music store with the intent of purchasing some real instruments. He looks around for a bit before deciding to confront the store clerk. "I'd like that red trumpet over there and the accordion sitting on the floor in the corner, please." The clerk looks at the drummer dumbfounded before replying: "Sir, you can have the fire extinguisher, but the radiator has to stay."

  • Oh yeah!!!

I have the same exact problem with my mouth.

I try to control it but it happens alot.

  • Dude...

My names Jeff. Im the timpani player for BDB!

I played Raga No.1 by Bill Cahn for I&E this year.

I got fifth place. Nice job with your solo. It's in the traditional Billy Cahn style!!!!

  • yea, very nice job playing, but (in my opinion, nothing more), you could've had a better demeanor instead of justing staring at your music with your mouth open. and you kinda needed to make the part after the last note a bit more dramatic in your actions.

  • haha, thanks. my jaw is kinda large, i get the mouth thing a lot

  • The roll section is kinda annoying...but nice job afterward
