I tore my Acl during my sophomore year while playing varsity football. i got the surgery and it was a 7 month recovery. my first practice back my junior year i planted wrong and my acl tore again...now I can't afford another surgery and my insurance wont cover it so now i cant play my senior year either! lovely
when im playin basketball everyday and getting rebounds i feel a little burn in my left knee..is that tearing soon..if it is i`ll be the most pissed off person in the world
I tore my acl playing softball a little over a year ago. It turns my stomach even to watch a video of someone else hurt their knee!! Its almost like i can feel it again!!
To clarify here, if you tear your ACL completely, it will not grow/heal back on its own, though your body will absorb the severed tissue from the injury over time. Proceeding without surgery is an option for everyone with ACL tears though there are long-term effects to weigh with that decision versus having it repaired either with your own tendon or that of a donor. Long-term effects often include general knee instability and an increased likelihood of arthritis. I am not a doctor; do your HW
i tore my LCL doing leg press wrong in high school ((i didnt know i had bad form)) i can feel it 5 years later rubbing against the outside of my knee joint

Tore my ACL in football...Some pussy linemen came from no where and went straight for my knee..But my recovery went well and started playing football 6 months later
Im 15 and i tore my ACL in March 2009, i continue to play football (soccer >.<) and i have kinda lost all my confidence as it fking canes when i go into tackles. :(
i just tore mine from skateboarding. It sucks but it didn't hurt when it happened to me...maybe that's because I lost all the skin off my hands and back to the black top, though.
Jee, I had an accident on my ATV. Hit a small tree and it flung me right off, Landed on my left foot and my knee bent incorrectly. The result, a LOUD pop and a Partially torn ACL, and Both Meniscus severely damaged. Already went for surgery, the ACL was left alone - for now - and both meniscus were snipped to take away the pieces that were ripped apart. Swelling was insane after initial injury, couldn't bend the knee, couldn't do anything.
I still cant figure out why some tears cause significant swelling and some cause very little. Both times I tore my ACL there was virtually no swelling and I know many people have similar situations. All medical literature says there will be significant swelling....anyone have thoughts?
so it only happens on a violent twist or movement?? i play basketball and i crossed my older brother up in a 1 on 1 and thats how he tore his it was scary and im petrified of this happening to me
@Anthony441 it doesnt even have to be a violent twist or movement.. it's pretty common. honestly if you keep playing sports like basketball, football, soccer, or skiing. then expect to tear your ACL one day. i tore mine but w/e i cant wait to get back into doing what i love.

4 days ago playn b-ball jumpd n came dwn on my left leg n tried 2 chnge directn wit it @ same time. rite away felt shrp pain in knee n wnt down. pain ws instanteneous. didnt hear pop but ws n still am in pain. coulndnt contnue play. stil cnt extnd leg fuly strait cuz feel heavy pressre n pain in da inside centr of knee very tight n painful evrytime i try. dis is da bigest problm rite now. minor swellin. no strait leg. cnt walk. cnt bear weight for pain. stiff joint hrd to bend. WHAT IS THIS?
tore mine practicing at a skate contest. didnt really know what happend thought i could walk it off. took a couple runs in the contest and then felt my knee up and then it just shifted like an inch 1/2 so i just sat out. that was july 15th got surgery august 3rd. started rehab early september. My doc said the patella tendon is the best bet for my age and its the strongest type of surgery just takes a little longer to heal so i got between 5-8 months left till i can shred again.
did my acl in in hockey. i finished my shift and nailed a guy.
mr. cherry would be proud of a good canadian kid finishing his shift. the thing is i fucked it up even more still using it. now im out for all of the season and playoffs :(
Tore my Acl in the third game of the season. While making a tackle in the back field. Played with it until the next couple plays thinking it was just a sprain. making another tackle knee popped and i fell down and coudn't get up. Next thing you know its a Acl tear and i'm out for the season.
i tore my acl playing football, since my growth plates arent closed im not having surgery...im waiting till they close, until then im allowed to play with a brace, only 6 weeks after it happened
I tore both my cruciate ligaments - one at age 17, the other when aged 33. Now the only football I play is on my PS3. You will NEVER make a 100% recovery from a cruciate ligament tear - I don't care what any doctor tells you; ever surgery is a little different and there will always be something missing. It's impossible to 'get back to normal'. Michael Owen never did, Rio Ferdinand never will and although Alan Shearer's was slightly different he never made a recovery either.
i tore my acl playing football with my friend at the age of 14. Post surgery consisted of alot of painkillers and endless physio 1 day after surgery and on.
@RBJ4life Do some reading on Accelerated ACL Recovery. Not sure were you are at, but there is doc here in Houston that follows the process. He has some amazing recovery times when compared to other docs in town.
Tore my acl on Saturday playing football, it swelled up really bad and couldn't move my leg at all...until they shoved a needle in my knee and drained 60ml of blood, bleurgh!! Really painful injury.
i tore my acl & it didnt swell till 24hrs later -_-.. had surgery 5 weeks ago tomorrow, i have full range of motion & i just tried once but i can run..not gunna do it again though for awhile lol
Man, i've been injured for 12 weeks, my physical therapist said i have a partial or complete ACL tear and i need an MRI to find out which one it is. Since i didnt have insurance, my dad applied for me, which took about 3 to 4 weeks total, and after i got insurance, mediCAL is making me wait 2 to 8 more weeks for an MRI. Im tired of this waiting, I wanna fuckin play. I miss football
@RBJ4life if you injured your ACL totally, you will have to do a surgery, and wait 6 to 8 months to play football again.that is what happened to me : \
@Pegless8 6 to 8 months after surgery?????? What the fuck????? im a junior now, so next year is my last year. That means i would be back in february or march, which is not good, cuz i wanted a lot of time to strengthen my legs. ACLs are fucking bullshit
@RBJ4life yeah man, ACLs injury is too fuckin bad :( you can always do the surgery one year from now, what i dont recomend that, because you will have other problems later for dont take care in time your knee, like arthrosis(i dont know if the name is right, sorry for the bad english). my doctor tell me that i needed to do the surgery the fast as possible, and i did it. now im good, but still felling that something in my knee isn't good totally, beacause only have passed 7 months.good luck!
Most definitely yes. The ACL does a lot to stabilize the knee, vastly affecting your mobility and speed. You have 4 main ligaments holding your knee together. The ACL is one of them. A tear in any can cause mobility loss, reoccurring pain and swelling and knee stability problems. A torn patellar or torn lateral collateral or medial collateral is even worse. Full tears to any of those can cause the knee to buckle out completely leaving your lower leg hanging like a limp dick.
I had acl, and one knee also had miniscus tear too, repair done on BOTH my knees close to two months ago, and I'm still in CONSTANT pain w/swelling. The Dr. told me I am now bone on bone and to deal w/ it!!! I'm really getting depressed!!!!! He also told me he "should have" done total knee replacement, but I'm too young. Any advise?!?!
That's fucked. I'm really sorry to hear that. I dont know what to say... But there's always wearing a Brace* Specified for you and you only* Insurance usualy pay's for it but if you dont have Insurance, you can find one for 1000$... My teamate is using a brace and played goalie the other day, he tore his ACL + miniscus, but the brace prevents it from hurting, its keeps the knee stable... plus its very versitile. not as much with out...but its pretty good.

I just got acl sergury 4 weeks ago and i can walk even though im not supposed to i did it playing football at a nonfull contact camp. I can almost do a 1 leg squat. ya
do not do anything against doctors orders. i was running after my friend with my nice ass brace on (no surgery yet) and my knee gave out. im worried that I fucked up my mencius.
i was walkin a week after my sugery... the swelling hurt like hell when i started walkin on it... but that wore off pretty quick... started pt two days after surgery kept doin it for 4 months twice a week then once a week for another month... another kid on my team tore his acl the same football game... freak deal... we shared rides to pt, i was back to dirt biking and wakeboarding (carefully with a brace) in six months
My right ACL blew when I was pulling a winch cable from my Jeep (wtf?). I was leaning back, pulling on the cable when my right leg from the knee down seemed to disappear. It hurt, but I got right back up and fell right back down again. Then it really hurt...
I was playing football, i went to go tackle someone and my foot got caught, he ran into me causing my knee to go inwards. I completely tore my ACL, Meniscus and tore my mcl. I cant get surgery because my growth plates arent closed. Im 14 years old. Ive been on an Immobilizer for two weeks. now have a ACL brace. My docter is Robert Defalco. He is a consultant for the Eagles. Im going to get surgery on October 26th. Im 5'11 rite now. I might get to 6'2 6'3. Wish me luck : D
i tore my acl playin football my foot got caught in the ground for about a half second and the kid on the other team took my knee out and i tore it 100% and have 2 get surgery
i have this injury, i was playing football and i turned quickly i heard a snap and fell straight to the ground i went to see the doctor and he just said it will be ok in a week. after a week i could walk again but every now and again it would give way and i would fall. After about a year of this happening i went back to the doctor he said to go for a M.R.I scan i had one and i had this injury now iv got to have an operation and i wont be able to play sports again for a year =[
Im 17 Ive already had one ACL replacement surgery on my right knee when I was 13 was I guess when it actually happened but they thought it was a dislocation so it happens 3 more times each time they think its the same thing well when it happened the last time they made me get an MRI and have the surgery well either a dislocation of my knee cap or an acl tear happened again to my left they told me because i was female the chance for this is greater n that might have been born with loose ligaments
In one (Freshman) football accident, I tore my ACL, MCL, and my Meniscus. Also sprained my LCL. Every awkward step resulted in a sharp pain. Then my knee finally gave out. The pain was excruciating, I heard my knee make three "pops". Ever since this occured, my knee is so stiff, and has swollen up like a balloon. Luckily my coach is in desperate need to get me back, and will do whatever to assure that I'm up to par, so I'm getting a ride out to Penn State to get worked on by the team doctor.
I tore my ACL,MCL, AND MENISCUS too...I feel your pain! get the surgery done asap. i had mine done 30 days after the surgery. i remember the pop noises when it happened to me...i will never forget that noise.
i tore my ACL, partially tore MCL, and tore both meniscus. its been a year since my surgery and im all back to normal. do your workouts, strengthen your leg back up, and be patient. you will know when youre ready to go.
i tore my acl and meniscus when i was in 8th grade at age of 14 yrs, im now jr in college & 21.. i had surgery after 3 months of therapy cause it was so swollen, surgery went ok (very painful), did therapy and went back to sports after 6 months..i was able to play varsity sports as a freshman & went on to play college softball---just fine, just make sure do at home exercises (thats what kept me ahead)! good luck! ( i also have twin sister who tore acl in each of her knees & wears double braces).
yep, like i could be walking fine, then it would just collapse under me, then swell up like a balloon. It actually felt like something was snapping in there every time it happened. get it scanned just to be sure!!
You didn't tear it then, you might have strained it. Once its torn, it can't fix itself and your knee will continuously give way periodically. Not fun.
it takes 2 years to get ur knee back to perfect after an acl surgry. i have torn my left acl 3 times and i have half my miniscus and yeah it is a pain in the ass
i just got my left acl done this week with a lars ligament , done my right knee in 2001 with a hamstring graft . plan to get back into futsal by the end of the year , though i will be playing with the aid of a pair of expensive knee braces . ( pod mx ).
hey just got my right acl done last week, had surgery on my left acl last september, all sports related.anyone out there with both knees done and back playing sport? need a bit of encouragement!!!
Yea man, As soon as recovery is done, Just work HARD
The exact same thing happened to me, on a hard foul in a basketball game.. I was back grade 11 summer, WORKED HARDER THEN anyone in the city, For the 2 month, 6 days a week 11 hours a day, running drills, cardio, Working out. And now, im getting div 2 offers, but im coming back for an extra year to try to get div 1 offers
Hard work pays off man, stay disciplined, and God will take care of the rest..
AND,... Have you goals set, put them on your wall so you see them everyday, dont slack, and for whatever sport your doing, GET KNOWLEDGE FROM SUCCESSFUL people, ask them what they did to get to where they are.
Philip Rivers of San Diego Chargers fucked up his knee pretty bad and he's back stronger than ever. He even played in the play-offs with a torn ACL. I've fucked both my knees pretty bad but i've never had surgery and I keep playing. There are lot's of pro's who play after having reconstructing knee surgery.
well i had pretty much shoulder reconstruction last year from wrestling, played football in america and then had surgery and in april i was back on the mat. just dont think about the injury and all will go good
There are many people who play after repairing both. How did you tear the second one? The reason for my asking is was it your fault or someone elses? Really work on your rehab and learn the knees limitations! You should be fine. I have had discussions with people who have had them both done and are still playing. ACLCENTRALdotCOM
i had my acl and mcl done a few years back from a football injury. make sure you follow the rehab 100%. i thought i could go without it, and i never played football again because it never got back to normal
I had my acl reconstruction on june 18th, i am just now in therapy, things seem to be going well, but now i have some nerve damage in the leg, when i tap on my incision it tingles the other side of my leg, also, i can now push in my leg and the dent stays there for five minutes or so. WTF! that means i have poor circulation, and possible something wrong with my heart, so i don't what to think about that
i had this surgery1 week ago ...doc advised nt 2 bent knee for 6 weeks...my doubt z whether i will b able 2 play my athlete life again...anyone pls hlp me...n how can i b sure tat i waont get d acl injury again by playing
You'll be fine as long as you follow the physio programme and are dedicated. I'm 7 months post op from having ACL reconstruction in both knees and I just played my first game back. Good luck
im 6 months post op. I can already do some running without having to worry about my knee. The worst thing right now is how sore my knee can sometimes be.
paardeman100 your knee was locked most likely and when you went to turn it twisted and tore but not completly because you probably got off the sucker pretty damn quick.i tore mine jumping off stairs and when i landed my shin stayed in placed while i kept going forward.suprisingly no pain right away just a lot of cursing and what did i do oh what did i do that sorta thing then so much pain.
Beleive it or not a torn Anterior Crutiate is known to be the least painful of all the ligaments in the knee, I tore the ACL in both my knees playing rugby league (at seperate times) and continued playing for 3 years after a physio stupidly mis diagnosed my injury as a strained medial hahaha! then it all caught up with me when because of the missing acl and continued stress I tore my medial muniscus in my left knee. 2 reco's later and I am back playing with 2 new rock solid ACL's.
The tear itself may be the least painful, but all the other will repair thereselves. ACL reconstruction is allot more painful that wearing a straight leg for a month. ACLCENTRALdotCOM
I have complete ACL rupture, medial meniscal tear, and grade II strain MCL.
This was since Four weeks ago. The doctor suggested to do Knee reconstruction surgery to fix the meniscal, and becuase of my age (42 Yrs) he suggested that there is NO need to do ACL reconstruction becuase of the side effects. Is this True? Please advise
Come to ACLCENTRALdotCOM and ask Dr. Sanders that question. I think it depends on how you want to live the rest of your life. Are you an active person?
I had complete tear (MRI) 12 yrs ago- did not have surgery. Have favored the knee for 12 yrs. Recently it has hurt after walking on treadmill.-Stepping onto step ladder I had pain INNER FRONTAL area -felt and sounded like pulling apart a chicken leg, like the ligaments or tendons- Now it is unstable, painful& I feels like my knee could buckle toward the BACK! ! Maybe NOT getting the repair 12 yrs ago = years of extra stress and finally another injury...?. Continued good luck to you- Thanks
I completely tore mine about a year ago. Tweaked it 4 days ago and went for physio today and im being sent for an MRI scan next week. Hope I can get my knee back, Its never had the stability in it, which it once had. Message me if you have any similar stories. Thanks!
nope, my worst injury is a tear or strain on aductors, you know them in the inside of your legs. dam they are annoying because they are always bugging you for about a year. i know, doesnt compare to the ACL but still annoying, lol. do you know anything about the aductors?
and i couldn't so any judo bjj or muay thai gettin up the stairs was really hard but i dont get it how did it happen i was playin football with some friends i was a right midfielder i got the ball then i started to run to the right and when i wanted to go to the left my body and left leg turned but my right knee stood on his place it made a nasty noice
I tore mine in june 06. I had surgery jan 08. One year later its sore when i play b-ball and run but nothing soime stretching cant handle. I was playing ball again 4 months later at about 75%. It still tweaks every now and then and reminds me that i have a surgically repaired knee. I also had an allograft from a cadaver. Overall the procedure went great! Msg me if you want to share and compare stories.
I completly snapped mine almost 2 years ago, two opirations later am still about 2 months off full fitness. It has to be the worst pain i have ever felt
Luckily, when I did mine, it was only microscopically torn, very small amount of damage. I was out for about 2 weeks, another week of non-hitting and I was good to go.

a few months of good physio should be able to get anyone who had succesful surgery back into sports i know that i'm ready to play football, just need to wear a brace for it
i tore mine about three years ago. quite possibly the most painful thing i have ever done. ended up having reconstructive surgery and two screws in my knee. couldnt play bcafl for bout a year and still gives me jip now.

i tore my mcl, meniscus and my medialpetella.. yea that sucks... my injury was like the one that just showed on this video except i twisted it more.. the side of my right foot almost touched my right hip.. very painfull and i been on cruthes for 5 weeks...
i tore mine in august and the doc said it was completely torn and i'd have to have surgery....but i prayed and had faith in God and he healed me! i don't need surgery and i'm playing basketball already!! just have faith!
i'm not 100%, but the fact that i'm playing already is amazing. and i don't really have pain with it, a little discomfort here and there, but i wouldn't call it pain.
Your only making it worse trust me... my dad tore his his back in 1994 in a little cup final in denmark he cant even play football for ½hour now after that he cant even walk
same with my cousin... he tore his playin basketball and he kept it till football season... and since he had no stability from his ACL it twisted and messed his knee up really bad
I recently had ACL Tear and MRI has revealed it has completely torn..Doctor has advisted few excercises and then if required will be operated.. I was happy to see that your tear was healed without any surgery.. are you ok now?
yea i tore my ACL LCL and Meniscus in a soccer game last week i gotta get surgery soon...im not looking forward to the next months at all since i broke my ankle last january and have 7 screws in my ankle already so i know this is going to be painful also.....wish me luck
yup did that to my knee in 2005 just had op in may this year after being wrongly diagnoised with a sprained knee!! thankfully im back running and should be back playing contact sports in next 3months
I tore my ACL playing soccer made a cross and my left knee just gave in im getting surgery in February it sucks not being able to play i hope all goes well

tore mine practicing at a skate contest. didnt really know what happend thought i could walk it off. took a couple runs in the contest and then felt my knee up and then it just shifted like an inch 1/2 so i just sat out. that was july 15th got surgery august 3rd. started rehab early september. My doc said the patella tendon is the best bet for my age and its the strongest type of surgery just takes a little longer to heal so i got between 5-8 months left till i can shred again.

RBJ4life 1 year ago
@RBJ4life if you injured your ACL totally, you will have to do a surgery, and wait 6 to 8 months to play football again.that is what happened to me : \
Pegless8 1 year ago
@Pegless8 6 to 8 months after surgery?????? What the fuck????? im a junior now, so next year is my last year. That means i would be back in february or march, which is not good, cuz i wanted a lot of time to strengthen my legs. ACLs are fucking bullshit
RBJ4life 1 year ago
@RBJ4life yeah man, ACLs injury is too fuckin bad :( you can always do the surgery one year from now, what i dont recomend that, because you will have other problems later for dont take care in time your knee, like arthrosis(i dont know if the name is right, sorry for the bad english). my doctor tell me that i needed to do the surgery the fast as possible, and i did it. now im good, but still felling that something in my knee isn't good totally, beacause only have passed 7 months.good luck!

Can this injury cause a loss of speed and mobility?
zighaiwan 1 year ago
@zighaiwan

Sorry to hear that.... to be honest i dont know what to say...
but theres always the option of wearing a unique brace. (specified for you and you only)

Insurance usually pays the sum of it... but if not you can find one for 1000$
youll be able to play and it wont hurt...
...
my teamate is using one, and he played goalie the other day for fun and played awsome... so there is alot of versatility with the brace.
btw your dr. is a dick...i understand you have to deal with it... but fuck way to put someone down!
I hope this helped

Im 17 Ive already had one ACL replacement surgery on my right knee when I was 13 was I guess when it actually happened but they thought it was a dislocation so it happens 3 more times each time they think its the same thing well when it happened the last time they made me get an MRI and have the surgery well either a dislocation of my knee cap or an acl tear happened again to my left they told me because i was female the chance for this is greater n that might have been born with loose ligaments
HatchetBaby9 2 years ago
In one (Freshman) football accident, I tore my ACL, MCL, and my Meniscus. Also sprained my LCL. Every awkward step resulted in a sharp pain. Then my knee finally gave out. The pain was excruciating, I heard my knee make three "pops". Ever since this occured, my knee is so stiff, and has swollen up like a balloon. Luckily my coach is in desperate need to get me back, and will do whatever to assure that I'm up to par, so I'm getting a ride out to Penn State to get worked on by the team doctor.

You didn't tear it then, you might have strained it. Once its torn, it can't fix itself and your knee will continuously give way periodically. Not fun.

Philip Rivers of San Diego Chargers fucked up his knee pretty bad and he's back stronger than ever. He even played in the play-offs with a torn ACL. There are many people who play after repairing both. How did you tear the second one? The reason for my asking is was it your fault or someone elses?
