dude ya theres 3 weeks of rifle training but then whats after boot?ya its fuckin MCT (Marine Combat Training) you have to take that into account every marine no matter what MOS has to go through this excpt. Infantry they go to SOI or ITB ,also every Marine is a Basic Rifleman.I have friends in the army over in iraq and he said that marines are the most feared there he even said that some of the national guard spray painted marines on the side of there humvees... what does that tell you?

I have seen this report. I agree that this is an alarming trend. The official DoD response states that the numbers are a bit skewed. There was no distinction between combat and non combat, nor between which "conflicts" these vets participated in. There is also a dispute over about half of the states not sending individual yearly records as opposed to sending them lumped in together. The U.S. Congress has hired an independent commission of mental health care workers to further look into this.

I am joining the Marine Corps next week. My parents are marines. My dad was Force Recon... my brother is following his foot steps... and I will be the first of 4 daughters to join... I am more excited than anyone could imagine. I have seen this report. I agree that this is an alarming trend. The official DoD response states that the numbers are a bit skewed. There was no distinction between combat and non combat, nor between which "conflicts" these vets participated in. There is also a dispute over about half of the states not sending individual yearly records as opposed to sending them lumped in together. The U.S. Congress has hired an independent commission of mental health care workers to further look into this.

In the 2 wars against Britain they served on Navy ships and fought coastal battles.
In the Civil war they raided confederate forts, that were to heavily fortified for regular troops.
In WW1 they fought the Germans in trench warfare.
In WW2 they fought the Japanese in Amphibious warfare.
In Korea they held off waves of millions of Chinese troops.
In Vietnam they fought Geurillas in the jungle.
Now they're fighting insugents.

Not really bogged down so much as we're seeing a lot more foreign(i.e. Iranians and Syrians and the like) insurgents getting into these skirmishes. Hiding? Thats an interesting perspective from someone who has never defended anything. As for superior weapons and super-power armament, that kinda goes with the whole most technologically advanced country on the planet, thing. We're only there to try and keep some sort stability in the region, its a bit harder than it looks.
