  • hey bro is this similar to nissan 300zx too?

  • @nomphajvaj i would highly doubt its similar, fairlady is a v6 right? that already makes it pretty different with the timing markets and how the belt is setup

  • @nukem384 I just put the crank pulley on and its sticking out like little bit its not flat with the crank shaft, is this normal this is before screw the crank pulley bolt. can any one answer this quick i gotta finish this car

  • Just did this on my friends 96. I stayed up really late finding everything i could about it and looking for tips for the crank bolt, but when it came time to do it i ended up dropping about halfway on the compression stroke on #1, fed some soft-shield 4 gage power wire in through the spark plug opening, raised up to almost TDC, and put a 2' 1/2" breaker bar on the crank bolt. It took me brabbing the frame and kicking the BB but it broke lose much easier then i thought it would. Its worth a try!

  • also...the tool should be around 40-60 bucks and it is a good investment on top of adding a water pump and/or timing belt at the same time. Some people even add in a timing belt tensioner just to complete the whole internals for a peace of mind. Not a bad idea but most are on a budget so just do what you can do but plan it out. Hope this helps

  • Just a little added info for this video...if you first fast forward to 2:00 and pause video. There is the first thing you will need before doing anything else on this video. Trust me I have done this on my 99 accord sedan 2.3L ex...and if you want to be driving this to work on Monday and you think you can do it on the weekend that's all good..but please people get this tool first regardless of what else you hear on YouTube. This is a gift from me to all you Honda owners 99-2002.

  • I want this video on my MY S-7 phone.

  • gooood tutorial

  • Good video. A little mistake here and there with the parts name but the presenter obviously knows what he's doing. What I also like about this video is that there is no power tool. I have neither the money nor the space to invest in a decent one. Not to mention noisy compressor and nosy neighbors.

  • Damn that's so simple compared to other cars like "Volvo" ahaha

  • Amazing video. But you know what I do not feel confident about doing it especially the crankshaft pulley part. I might forget to adjust the arrows in the pulley

  • Your video is a favorite on South Africa

  • Im paying someone to do this one, screw that!

  • @PULGACOYOTE Totally agree with you on this one. I remember the horrors of replacing one on my old Mazda... *PTSD*

  • u said water pump at first isn't that the power steering pump u taking off first ?

  • if im just replacing the water pump is there any parts that i can skip over? or am i gonna have to follow all these steps minus the replacing of the pulley and timing belt?

  • @RCDC93 you cant take the water pump out without taking the timing belt off. you might as well just change the timing belt while youre in there. and no, you basically have to follow this whole tutorial

  • 10 seconds in it says to take off the water pump but you're taking off the power steering pump lol

  • @dennisleslie i thought i heard wrong.

  • 3.44 dont u mean line it up with the head not the block

  • My Crank Pulley thing was IMMMPPPPPPROOOSSUBLLLLEEEE

    to take out :/

  • Great video with lots of important tips. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with us!

  • How long did this take

  • @YoungGangstasEnt took me about 8 hours to complete.

  • @nukem384 dang 8 hours..took my 1 1/2 and was my first timing belt.....question=i was not paying attention when i took apart the engine mount....does the safety flap go under the mount or hang out the side? thanks

  • @nukem384 question why that long i did this in about 1hour and 30 min my first time? what part took you along time to take off did a bolt get stuck or break off. ? i really cant see taking 8 hours to do this unless you break a bolt or someting

  • @YoungGangstasEnt 8 hours me too big

  • Just did an 01 today

  • woaw thanks for this video i had no idea what i was doing altho im replacing a 96 acura integra i think its the same procedure right?

  • @rookm13 not really on an integra. since its a DOHC motor, its going to be tougher to do since you need to line up more timing marks. the basic procedure will be similar, but id recommend finding a specific tutorial for a B series motor

  • Hey i got a 1995 Honda Accord LX with a 2.2L 4 cyl Eng. NON - V-Tech SAME PROCESS????????????????? Really hope it is because i ordered parts! i need to fix this my self too expensive so send else ware !!! let me know Please

  • @geofromdayo1 yep i have the exact same car, same process.

  • Good

  • i hope that they put it in TDC otherwise this will be a pain for anyone. I have never done this before with mine but i was told that you need a machine to make sure the belt is timed correctly which the normal person does not have. You should pay a mechanic to do this, this isnt something that should be posted for the garage mechanic to do. LOL some one is gonna fuck their shit up

  • I have a 1998 Honda Odyssey 4 cyl 2.3L engine. Is the timing belt replacement procedure the same? if not could you know where to get that info.

    BTW, I like your presentation.-Junu

  • @alookable not sure which engine is in that car, but if its an f23, it will be very similar. look on the transmission casing from the front of the car, near where its connected to the block, the engine code will be there.

  • I have a 2003 Honda accord v6 6speed and was wondering if the procedure is the same? Do you know where i can get the info on how to replace it? Thanks. Nice video by the way.

  • @PJON214 don't believe 03 has a timing belt, i think it has a timing chain so you shouldnt need to do this. check with your shop though.

  • how do u know all of this stuff :D ?

  • @911Dreda11 practice, and before it was being an apprentice for friends

  • @911Dreda11 books son, it's all in books, son.

  • Well from ur prospective what do I think might be wrong from what I told u?

  • Great video. I recently had in changed. Before my car went in it wasn't making any noises. Now it makes this weird noise while driving and when turning the steering wheel the most. The steering is getting harder and harder to turn. Do u think it has anything to do with the machanic that did the job incorrectly somehow?

  • @GIROB1985 if its your steering thats affected, i dont think so. sounds like just a coincidence.

  • @GIROB1985 I think its the belt, if its loose you might me loosing some "power" for the steering

  • i noticed that you had a v-tec so i have a question. i have a 94 accord that does not have a vtec engine in it and was wondering if this is still the accurate way to change the belts. im sure it is but i want to be 100% before i start

  • @jkaf8 if you have a f22b1, then yes you have vtec. this engine only came in the EX accord. and yes this tutorial is exactly the same on that car

  • why would u move the cam 3 teeth off after u have put on your tbelt on when you turned the engine and lined the marks back up to tdc u would be out of time

  • wat if you already turn both belts at the same time wat do u do then?

  • @nukem384 I see that you tension the timing belt without the balancer belt on. Can/Should you tension them at the same time? If you turn the crank while the balancer belt is off do you risk screwing up the timing between the balancer belt and timing belt? Any input is appreciated. Thanks for the great vid!

  • @architecturesucks def tension them separately as ive shown in the video. you run a high risk of messing up the timing if you try and do both at once.

  • should you use a torque wrench?

  • @hom2fu theoretically yes on every bolt, realistically not many do that

  • @hom2fu The trick to working with honda's after a while is that if your "not doing head bolts" you can get the feel of the metal on the tool. The way I have done it for years with no problems is tighten tell you feel the bolt almost feels like it "might" strip then stop. Works everytime and holds well. Honda's are very soft metal cars even the engine is soft so be careful! Once you get the feel for it bolt tightness you know when to stop. Practice on junk parts is all I can tell you. Its a feel.

  • why do you need to drain the coolant from the radiator????

do i have to replace the belt tensionor??

  • @stripesofadidas you only need to drain coolant if youre changing the water pump. id highly recommend doing this while you are doing the timing belt as its right there and its pointless to take the timing belt off again to change the water pump at another time

  • @nukem384 True. i'm in a situation myself where I am kicking myself for not changing the belt when the water pump went out not too long ago. Now I have to take it apart again to replace the belt. *grumbles*

  • now this is something I call great tutorial! it helped alot!

  • I have a 1990 Honda Accord EX 2DR and I need to change the Timing belt...it left me stranded in a store parking lot. My friends tell me that the valves may have been damaged while the vehicle was in motion. I am just wondering if you could give me any advice on the matter. Can I do this job in my home garage and also, will I need a bunch of tools? Thank you for your time, should you chose to reply to this post. I see you have many on here! Haha!

    God bless!

  • @Man2Beats if you timing belt broke, there is a good chance you have bent valves or other internal engine damage. i did this install right in my garage with the tools you see in the video. only real special tool was the crank pulley tool, everything else is normal socket wrenchs and box wrenches.

  • @Man2Beats visit CB7tuner.com, all the question and problems regarding the 90-93 honda accord are all there, answers to DIY to looking a badass accords! :D visit that site, they have full DIY timing blet tutorial.

  • @Man2Beats - I'm replacing my timing belt and water pump (98 Acura CL 2.3l). I've run into a snag trying to remove the lower timing belt cover. I've removed all 5 bolts. The cover is free from the engine but I can't seem to be able to remove it from the engine bay. The plastic tab on the lower timing cover that is used for lining up the timing marks seems to extremely limit maneuverability. Any suggestions or tips? Thanks in advance.

  • How about for 88 accord lx automatic four cyl.

    BTW your awsome thanks

  • @1tim315carlos not sure exactly which engine is in the 88 accord, but if its an f series engine, it'll be very similar

  • is that the same with 02 accord V6 ...3.0....You showed how to line up the crankshaft by turning pulley...how about the other 3 marks....please show how to line them up before we take off all belts...Thanks

  • Hello Sir....I have 02 V6...so is that the same with 4 Cylinders. Please advise. Thanks for your video...oh by the way. you show how to set a mark on crankshaft..by turn pulley...how about the other marks...how to you line them up...Thank you very much.

  • same for a 2006 ?

  • @KBar87 2006 will be completely different as i think theyve switched the accord over to the k series engines.

  • @nukem384 hey bro i found your videos very informal,,kudos to u bro...im actually looking for a mechanic to help me do my timing belt and water pump..im in the bay area..where are u located and how much would u charge to do my timing belt& water pump?? for an 03 lexus gs300..thanx in advance..

  • To Nukem384: I hope you realize that you are not the norm in todays society. Thank you for not trying to make a buck off of people for this video. You are a shining light in this dark world. I still cant believe I am watching this for free.

  • @TheSteamer13 thank you for the kind comment! have a good weekend!

  • Please can you explain just one thing that is very important but I don't understand well regarding the balancer belt. " Rotate engine five to six turns clockwise and then bring the engine at TDC” ok -this is what is bugging me – (loosen the adjusting bolt and loose the 3 teeth IN CAMSHAFT – but in which turn- clockwise or ?? I just don’t understand 3 teeth thing? Please, Please can you be a bit more specific?

Many thanks for great video and best regards.

  • Comment removed

  • @OttomanSaraj buddy. The pulley only has spring tension holding the belt at first. NOT ENOUGH!!.so rotate the engine five times NORMAL DIRECTION! Then back to TDC. The compression and friction is now tensioning more, you then turn the nut below watching the CAM move THREE TEETH spaces, and hold the strain in place. this will tension the belt correctly, then lock the pulley in place. TOO much tension on the belt is FATAL since the engine grows taller as it heats up further tensioning the belt

  • hi - great video. One question though - I just don't understand the bit about setting the belt tension. Do you set the timing belt tension without the balancer belt in place? Also I just don't understand the five turns and forward three cam teeth bit. Any chance of somne more detail? cheers - Martin

  • on a 89 accord it looks alot easyer then the new one ha i need a water pumper my just when out but i dont think i am going to do the time belt

  • Great vid, thanks for posting.

This is why I won't be doing myself on my 1999 Accord Type-R ;)

  • do you have a tutorial on how to replace a bushing on a lower control arm on a 2003 honda accord?

  • Good Stuff! Although I am mechanically inclined, I saved all this fun for my experienced mechanic. Labor was around $515.00 to replace TB & BS belts, water pump tensioners, springs, cam/crank, front oil pump seal, adj valves, etc. You made tha job look easy! Very cool! Seems to have put the pep back in the little 2.3.

  • I just changed out my mothers alternator on her honda accord. It is the same 4 cylinder engine from the looks of the video. My question is how do you know how much to tighten on the alternator tensioner for that belt? I have it right now where its not too loose but not to tight either. I don't know if there is a specific torque spec it has to be at or what. There is also a little whine now when she drives after I changed it. Might be from higher amp alternator?? Much appreciated! Thanks!

  • @fastjoon92 the tightness is measured from the deflection (how much the belt can move once its secured). if its whining, it means you have the belt too tight.

  • Quick question,

im about to do a timing belt on a 94 Accord EX but the belt on that car broke of while idling. Now that i dont have any timing marks in place, whats the best way to time the pulleys? Also do you think there's any valve bending involved in this engine since they are interference? For some reason i love Mazda KL engines, break a TB, no problem, just replace and go :)

  • @RigsPGT timing belts breaking are never good, there could be valve bendage, but theres no real way to tell unless you pull apart the engine. to line the timing back up, just use the marks i showed in the vid.

  • Comment removed

  • @RigsPGT 1 Get the crankshaft to TDC then, 2 focus on cylinder one and four valves also find where no 1 spark plug connects to the distributor cap. 3 rotate the cam until the rotor points to no 1 plug wire in cap. the no 1 cylinder valves is now closed and the no 4 cyl is on valve overlap[ both valves open]. 4 Then look around for timing marks on the camshaft and engine block that will help you to fine-tune the cam position. 5 then put on the belt and tension it without moving both wheels

  • is the car a 4 cylinder??

  • @looked99 yes
